Guerrilla War is really what Ikari Warriors *should* have been on the NES. Thank God SNK dumped Micronics and handled this one in-house - this has to be one of the absolute best co-op shooters ever made for the system. And being able to play as Che and Castro? That ups the game's cool-factor exponentially.
Viva La Revoloution. You get to play as Che and Castro. Cool i had this game for the nes and loved it all the time. its hard trying to save all the hostages
You remember that part in the history books where Che Guevara and Fidel Castro singlehandedly overthrew the Batista regime because they had infinite continues and guns, lots of guns? I sure as hell don't...
They basically did actually. Castro and Che had less 200 men in their force going up against an army of approx. 37 000. And the US supported them with a shitload of guns. Even the unlimited continues thing seems to more or less spot on as Castro managed to survive several hundred CIA sponsored assassination attempts. So the game gets it right.
This game was my childhood. I grew up playing the NES and even though I loved Mario and Zelda along with the light gun games, this game was my most favorite. I used to play this game all the time with my older sister. When I was younger I used to think the final boss was some guy in a purple bunny onesie.
It's funny you mention that--I remember distinctly when I first played this with my friend when he brought this game over, I remember he referred to the King as "Santa Claus". I don't know if it said it somewhere in the manual or something, but I never questioned it because he did look kind of funny in his colorful uniform.
Ironically, in the arcade version Batista.. I mean The King actually didn't die but escape in his boat while in the NES he dies. Also I like the NES version due to the music. The first level music is the best
The JP version is historically accurate over the fact that Batista fled from Cuba once the revolutionary forces managed to take over Havana. Talk about attention to detail...
One of the few games I finished as a kid. Once I finished it, with great difficulty, I was confused. I didn't know games had an end. I was just staring at the "The End" screen waiting for the next level. When I realized what happened, even though I spoke no English, I was heartbroken. Good game.
Aah the game that made us believe that we too can liberate a country with 10million rounds of bullets, 100000 grenades, a flamethrower, tanks and sheer fucking will.
I like how the tanks don’t explode from a lack of fuel, but rather after a set period of time after the player hijacks one and even then the game gives you a noticeable heads up with both a loud alarm sound as well as the tank flashing brightly so you can get well enough away from it unlike what typically would happen in Ikari Warriors.
Interesting game, a upgrated version of actual arcade with more levels and better gameplay, yeah, is good game for nes The japanese version is named "Guevara"
One of the few times where a port to home consoles was infinitely better than the arcade experience. More content, more levels, more bosses, and most importantly, a more satisfying ending. Not to mention the killer soundtrack that blows the original out of the water. SNK did great things with this one.
Great music, gameplay. Brings back ol memories. Tough game, i used the cheat code when you die. And respawn where you left off till the game is beaten ❤
I never realized when I was younger that the Japanese version of this game actually referred to the two main characters as Che Gueverra and Fidel Castro. I'm not crazy about those two people, but this game was and still remains awesome after many, many play-throughs. The action is fast and furious, the power-ups are actually useful, and the characters don't trudge along painfully slowly like in Ikari Warriors. Even the music is awesome!
¡Excelente gameplay, y saludos cordiales!
The game seems easy due to infinite continues, but try beating this bad boy in just 1 credit, you will have quite a hard time due to the enemy rate in this game. Soldiers, and more soldiers, everywhere.
Man, did my brother and I love this silly game. It's so much fun and completely hilarious. Later on in life, it was fun to find out what everybody LOVES to point out this game is actually about until I heard someone preface it with "fun fact" for 500th time. Is there a chance someone on the internet has pointed at games like this, North and South, and Liberty or Death as examples that "games were always political" in an intellectually dishonest attempt to protect some of the more extreme and radical displays seen in modern games?
WHERE HAS THIS GAME BEEN ALL MY LIFE!? I had a Che poster back in high school and when I went to college I traced the poster of his eyes and nose with the words "his spirit lives on" and made dozens of copies and put them up all over the campus. apparently people knew who's eyes and nose that was and the young republicans group threw a fit and had them taken down. but they missed one.... in the faculty soc dep. building...😉
