If I'm not mistaken, the '77 Pontiac Trans Am 6.6 litre is a 403cid rated conservatively at 180 net h.p. (about 240 -- 260 gross h.p.), still a good looking 'Bird, man.......
@jaybo6881
@jaybo6881 Год назад
They were 2 6.6’s, the olds 403 and the Pontiac 400. The Pontiac 400’s were the def stronger motor, both were pretty much the kings of factory cars in the late 70’s, everything else, including the Vettes were choked down small blocks, The hood scoop on the olds 403 said 6.6 Liter. The Pontiac 400’s scoops said T/A 6.6 Beautiful cars
@treykearns4867
@treykearns4867 Год назад
Damn. The engine in my generator makes more power. Seems like it would b quite an achievement to design a big block that DOESNT achieve any power at all.
@jaybo6881
@jaybo6881 Год назад
Oh yeah beautiful cars, it was the late 70’s. The 6.6’s pretty much dominated American made cars then, even with that horsepower!!
@CadenMoskol
@CadenMoskol 9 месяцев назад
@@treykearns4867emmisions made it damn near impossible to make a powerful engine from the factory but for the sake of the badging and the reputation behind the chevy 396/402 and the pontiac 400 general motors did everything in their power to keep those big block engines even if it meant making them underpowered pieces of shit
@CadenMoskol
@CadenMoskol 9 месяцев назад
@@jaybo6881I mean back then if you wanted a fast car you didn't buy a new car you bought a 1967-1971 camaro or firebird usually a camaro for the looks and reputation of that 396 producing wayy more horsepower then whats written on that engine

Here's some trivia some hoods were marked "6.6 liter" which was an Oldsmobile 403ci engine & some were "T/A 6.6" these were Pontiac 400ci.

As an owner of a late 70s Lincoln with a Ford 400, I can tell you that a couple changes to timing and removing the emissions tech will double the power on the weak smog era V8s. If you have the chance to rebuild and increase the CR, you can triple it!

Not to bring race into this, but back in the early 90s, a friend had a 78 Trans Am that looked a lot like the one in this video. Same color, same fire bird on the hood but the head light housing was slightly different. White guys were always offering to buy it from him. After he said to me _"I don't know why white dudes want this car so bad,"_ I replied _"it's probably because of Burt Reynolds and that Smokey and the Bandit movie."_ He eventually sold it for $600. It sold the same day he put the _"For Sale"_ sign on the windshield.

The reason it only made 180hp is because it was filled with emissions s***.
@DavidJohns-we5fe
@DavidJohns-we5fe 3 месяца назад
Here you go...1970s emissions kept all performance cars of the 70's at low hp/ tq ratings...& a.c. Delco was a part department of general motors...like Mopar for Chrysler & fomoco for ford/ mercury/ Lincoln..etc
@randallwhalen3239

GM cars had radios by AC Delco because Delco was GM`s electrical and electronic supplier and still are today but they just don't "feature" it. And, the SE trim level was one year only, as the Firebird/TA went through a complete restyle in 1978. Pontiac supplied the SE Trans Am because it was free promotion for a slow-selling trim.
