@@kearney2342 from 1999 until 2009 (nearly his whole career) he still shot higher than 70% from within 5ft, im sure he still wouldve been getting hack-a-shaq'd alot but yea probably less often. Though with him getting fouled less he's also have easier chances at getting to the rim cause to be completely honest he was getting fouled nearly every posession regardless cause of his physical dominance and they just only called it when it was blatantly on purpose so i think he wouldve just shot less free throws but had roughly the same amount of points as he has now. Of course this is all speculation we'll never truly know what wouldve happened if he was a better free throw shooter, always felt like he hit them at the end of games anyway so i dont even know if it wouldve added too many more wins
@@JubioHDX He wouldnt be getting fouled as much even with his 70% from the field within 5 feet because if he was shooting 80% from FT you'll take a 70% shot with defenders, potential for him to foul, offensive 3 in the key, etc. vs 2 80% shots with absolutely no other factors making it difficult for him. Though i do agree that would give him more clean looks at the basket and probably pump up his scoring there too. Probably safe to assume hes at 31K (80% from FT = 3000+ more points = roughly 31K one way or another if he had shot 80% from the field
My favorite quote from Luka is “If you don’t believe, you shouldn’t be here.” He said that either in the bubble in the series against the clips or the year after can remember which.
Shaq attempted 11252 free throws in his NBA career, making 5935 of them at a rate of 52.7%. If he had shot 70% from the line, he would have made 7876 total, which is nearly 2 thousand more points just for getting the ball in the hoop. Woulda cracked 30k points with that too. 80% is another 1125 points on top of that, making him the 8th most prolific scorer of all time despite sucking for like 5 years after his '06 run with Wade.
That just because he got old. Also you have to take into account if he could shoot free throws he wouldn't have been fouled so much which would make it irrelevant unless you also take into account with lass fouls he would score much more but that would be a near unquantifiable amount
@@TheGamingShogun unquantifiable for sure But I’m glad you said that because people keep counter arguing the points he could have had (if he could shoot) is that he wouldn’t have been fouled as much. But god damn that would mean he would just score so much moreb
Shaquille O'Neal never scored 30ppg in a season, but assuming he attempted the same amount of free throws and shot exactly 70% now instead of his previous percentages, he would have 5 different 30ppg seasons. He would also have 5 scoring titles now instead of 2, which would put him 3rd all time behind MJ and Wilt. Pretty fun thought exercise to think if he was a good/decent free throw shooter
The hypothetical stat of "if Shaq made 80% of his freethrows" is kinda dumb because if he shot well from the free throw line people wouldn't foul him intentionally. The hack a Shaq wouldn't exist
The way I predicted Chris paul being the NBA live quote was just me having him on my team and I had him dunking over 3 people every other possession lol
I did the math. If Shaq went 70% from the line he woulda had 30 537 points , still 8h all time in scoring; If he went 80% from the line woulda had 31 663, passing Wilt by nearly 200 points And he said thats what he really wanted, to pass up Wilt. Then he woulda called himself the most dominant player ever
SB Nation/Secret Base made a great video back in the day about Shaq's free throws. They actually discover something pretty funny, go watch it if you can find it
If he did shoot 70% instead of his usual 52.7%, he would of had 4 seasons scoring 30+ points and had 5 scoring titles instead of 2. He would of taken a scoring title off of MJ and 2 from AI.
If Shaq shot 75% from the line, he would have 31099 total points in his career. In the NBA all time scoring list, he would stay at No. 8 but in the NBA+ABA scoring list he would jump to No. 8 above Julius Erving
If Shaq shot 80% from the line. Career ft percent - 52.7 Career attempted - 11,252 Career made- 5935 If he shot 80% from the line he would have made 9002. That would add 3066 to his career points. Instead of 28,596 he would have 31,662. That would move him up 2 spots on the all time scoring list to 6th behind Jordan and ahead of Dirk.
