I cannot TELL you how encouraged I am by this! If professional musicians have such difficulty naming familiar pieces like this, it really takes the pressure off me. There are COUNTLESS pieces I instantly recognize, can hum every note, but can I name it, including the composer? Usually not. There is a meme out there showing in the first picture a very tall stack of what is supposedly sheet music. It is labeled "pieces of music you recognize." The second photo shows a book the size of a postage stamp, labeled, "pieces you can name." That's about right.

Hey Brett and Eddy, If by any chance you read this, I suggest you check out a piece you probably don't know -- the violin sonata by Henry Cowell, an American composer who gained notoriety as a young man for his piano music, which used inside-the-piano techniques like plucking and strumming the strings. He was one of the first Western composers to have been influenced by Asian music. He could write good melodies, too, and his violin sonata has some lovely ones, plus an awesome Irish jig movement. Thank you for all you do to make great music accessible and fun for young people. This sixty-something pianist likes watching your videos, too!
