Well, at least I knew Beethoven's Fifth. Thank you, Peter Schickele, wherever you are!

i play in a professional orchestra and i could still only identify 6 of the symphonies (could guess more composers though) - brahms 1, tchaik 2, beethoven 5, dvorak 6, bruckner 8, mahler 9. of the more well known composers, definitely tchaik 2, rach 3, schubert 4, shosty 15 really aren't played that often

Very good. Composers easy (mostly), numbers hard. I missed a couple I should have got. This is the kind of difficulty I’ve been hoping for, thank you!

Such complexity can scare many people, so I make different levels in different videos. But of course there will still be many difficult ones.

I'm counting 7 point for guessing the right symphony and composer, 3 half-points for guessing the right composer but not the symphony, and one quarter point for guessing the wrong Haydn. That's a total of 8,75 points. I think that's a pass, thank you very much.
@adiosmusictest
@adiosmusictest 2 дня назад
You have an excellent counting system. I saw different options for counting in other videos that were not my own, but I decided not to complicate it with additional worries with counting the points of my viewers. But some people like to count points and I welcome that.

4/15. Three easy guesses (Beethoven, Bruckner and Mahler) and one lucky strike (Tchaikovsky).

Only 3 correct symphony numbers, although I had more correct composers. I never claimed to be an expert! It was fun to try.

I can’t even imagine how listeners guess these numbers. Apart from a few well-known ones, all the rest are very similar. It's much easier to guess the composer))

@@adiosmusictest The Dvorak I got right because I used to keep thinking that the Scherzo from the 4th is the one from the one in the quiz. So when I heard the correct Scherzo instead, I immidiately had that connection in my head: "Not the 4th!"

@@Quotenwagnerianer nobody needs to know any symphony by Dvorak besides the 9.
@Quotenwagnerianer
@Quotenwagnerianer 7 дней назад
@@pietroamaretti8550 I strongly disagree. The 7, 8 and 9 are essential knowledge for all classical music lovers. 4-6 are nice to knows. 6 especially for the opening movement. That's music that sounds like a warm breeze in summer.

You got me this time! I didn't know the Shostakovich one. I think I've only heard it once (and decades ago). Many very good symphonies here, but I didn't get many. (Already knew I wasn't an expert).

For non-experts, simply guessing the composer is great fun. I myself am already confused in these numerous numbers))

11 out of 15. The Shostakovich I consider the end of the Symphony. It's really the last one that entered the repertoire.

@@adiosmusictest It was a very good quiz. This time I got all the ones I got right completely right. Sometimes I only recognize the composer. The Glass threw me off, because I recognized his style but I was completely unaware that he wrote Symphonies, let alone that many. Minimalism is kind of contrary to the idea of symphonic development, so it's seems like an oxymoron to me.

I got that Beethoven one right! (Well, I guessed the composer right, although I thought it was his 14th symphony. Well, at least I was within a factor of 3 !) I almost got the number of the last one right too, although I had no idea who the composer was.

Not great for me this time. Only got 6 of the composers, with a few more where I was like "well it could be A, B, or C". You totally got me with the other Haydn lol, thought it didn't sound quite right. Then I whiffed on Glass and thought the Milhaud sounded English! Oh dear! Think I was only confident on 2 actual symphony numbers - Brahms and Beethoven, and at least the Beethoven is a freebie and probably shouldn't count. Had a feeling one of the early Tchaikovsky symphonies was going to come up, so got that one on a semi-guess although I don't know the piece, and lucked into the right Schubert.

Thank you for such a detailed review. The quiz is of course very difficult. I added Beethoven so that it wouldn't be completely impossible. On the other hand, many composers wrote symphonies without using numbering and they can logically be ignored for this series of quizzes, which greatly narrows the number of options.

4 composers/numbers correct + 4 composers/incorrect numbers + 2 incorrect composers/correct number. So 7/15 if I give myself 1/2 points. I really should have recognised composer of Symphony #13. Horosho quiz.

You reaaaally want to keep doing this with symphony numbers 1 to 15 and have unknown symphonies after 9 :D I really like the channel but this really doesn't work for me, hopefully works for others. 5 correct only.

But you can just guess the composer if the numbers don’t work out very well. That's what I would do))

Philipp Glass is no composer. His bungling can‘t be a symphony, so it can not have a number.
