Ich think you should always have 1 point in holy shield, just to get the frames per block down to 2. Even with no point in dex at all you will still block a lot with endgame gear, so holy shield will save you time blocking, even though it increases the block percentage. Also, Hotspur are pretty nice endgame boots. As well as some other boots, but Hotspurs get overlooked the most :-)
So I been playing diablo 2 since it first came out in 99. I was 4 years old and I just hit potions for my dad as he killed mobs. Since d2r came out I felt like that experience really has been resurrected as I am a father to a 6 month boy now and I'm 26 years old now. I would just like to say that I , personally, REALLY like having the max FCR breakpoint for a hammerdin, max fcr being 125. You can hit it without too much difficulties if you use a Spirit shield , HotO , Arach and one 10 fcr ring. A 20 fcr circlet or 20 fcr gloves to top it off and you should be good to go ! I think it makes teleporting ALOT more useful and the hammer rates are much faster. Thats just my opinion, but I find it alot more fun to play this character with max FCR.
Just came across this guide randomly I run an mf hdin have for years and years and years. Biggest problem. Here is your not running holy shield and max block. That's a must in hell SPECIALLY chaos hell. Ptopaz the shako always for mf char and pdiamond the hoz max resist makes your survivability so much greater in hell

Getting +12 to pala skills from gear is not unheard of, that gives you a lvl 32 conc, pride is a lvl 20 conc aura at most. You will lose a lot of damage. Also, what aura do you run then? Redemption?
Honestly if you just farm Lower Kurast you can get the Runes you need in about...30-50 hours I would assume. Bit tedious but would be 1 way to go about it without finding anything else.

I'd say for an MFer spirit is WAY better because your map movement speed is essential. Boss kill speed is already insane on a hammerdin, even on p8 with average gear. Plus in big picture terms you're always kind of fighting RNG. Doesn't matter if you have a better chance for items to roll rare/unique if not as many items are dropping because you're slow therefore doing fewer runs. I figure you're looking for that golden mean of highest MF with the fastest map navigation speed. More runs produces higher chances of the items you actually want to drop, then the mf increases the chance of them rolling unique. Plus with MF's diminishing returns and blah blah blah I'd say 125 is the goal but 75 can be reached with just Hoto (40) & spirit (35) then everything else can go into MF for that option. For the 125 MFer best is Wiz (50) + Spirit (35) + 2 of either (Arach (20) + Ammy (20) + Mage/Trang (20) + (20) Circlet w/ mf + x2 10 FCR rings) with stacked MF gear on switch for boss. i.e. ist'd crystal, baba, ist'd pally shield ect. Then using charms with MF, FHR, resistances & skillers to compensate for the damage dip for using FCR/MF focused gear. The 55% FHR on spirit is insane and most people never mention or consider that as a factor. For example, with Spirit and (+3 12%FHR GC's) or (+2 GC and +2 5%SC's) you've hit the best you can feasibly do with the 86% break point. Even without charms hitting that 48% with only one item is insane and opens up other slots. I mean, FHR isn't essential for PvM (especially 86%) but it helps for when you're hit by random mobs on the way to bosses and for boss killing. Not to mention the +2 skills, 80 to all res in everything except fire and a massive +105 mana pool boost that helps a lot. Currently I think you have zero fhr which is a bit of an oversight because even just 20 gives you 2 frame (9-7) but the problem is anywhere that gives FHR are key item slots for MF or FCR. Boots, Gloves, Belt & Helm. You could always sheal your helm but why not ist it? So I guess charms? See that's why I figure spirit is easily the best because why not switch out HoZ for a shield that basically does the exact same thing + (FHR, mana and FCR) all things we desperately need on a caster MFer. HoZ does help with block chance though (so why no holy shield then??? Its really it's only advantage...) but it's only by 12% because a sacred targe is 60% BC while HoZ i.e. gilded shield is 72 (52+20) and in the end getting enough dex for max block really isn't that much of a sacrifice to life and is totally worth it. You might think that 30% FBR helps on HoZ but holy sheild's FBR puts you instantly at 2 frames at 0 FBR and 1 frame at 86. I don't know if it's possible to get 86 in the game? And no matter what 2 frames is INSANE. Without Holy shield it does make a difference but the minimum is 5 frames so you're pretty much fine unless you're rolling with 86 FHR in which case you might want your FHR and FBR to be on par at 4 frames or just get the damn skill... no matter what I'd recommend max block holy shield because if you get hit by mobs and block you get a 2 frame animation which is nothing. In the end the hammerdin will always be the little brother to the sorc for MF. Pally: 10 frames (75) 9 frames (125) Sorc: 9 frame (63) 8 frames (105) You have to basically cripple the pally to get to the speed of a sorc with only spirit and one 20% fcr item. Not to mention telekinesis, static field and cold mastery being op for map navigation/boss kill speed and you don't need enigma. Most of the reason why you mf is because you can't afford HR's. Only advantage is defense, max block and they share the BEST FHR scaling (along with barbs and Assassins). THEREFORE!! Why not get to that 4 or 5 frame fhr, holy shields FBR and max block since it's the only damn thing this guy can do better than a sorc...
The guy has already a enigma with a HOTO and a HOZ at lvl 77 while im at lvl87 trying to find a vex rune for a HOTO with a ancients pledge and a spirit crystal sword😭😭😂
Upgraded Goldwrap, dosent that have 4 slots on potions? Should be better than tal belt. Also, if you are stuck on 75 FCR set-up for MF consider even more survival gear like dwarf ring, or maybe thundergods belt :)

Youd be better off with a spirit shield, a raven frost + 1 fcr ring, and magefist gloves. Still over 300 mf with fcr break point at 125 for top tier cast rate. Fast clears is always superior to stacking mf after 300. The difference in items between 300 mf and 1100 mf is negligable and irrelivant to anyone whos been playing this game over the last decade. Maras is top choice for amulet. Raven is needed for lowest max block dex stats without dex charms. Without max block, youre better off just running an mf sorc
love your runs and other vids but the guides are a bit useless in my opinion. People who have Jah, Ber and Vex lying around usually don't need to watch a video to know how to play a character. I have played LoD for legitimately over 20k hours and have selffound maybe 2 HRs ever and that was years apart, getting 3 HRs in the same ladderseason is pretty much utopic without boting or buying stuff online, not even mentioning the fact that they need to be the right HRs. Maybe if you made guides where you play with selffound gear (on that char, not muled over) and show what runs can be made if you only found some low-level uniques or runewords only up to UM so people who actually play a character for the first time can see what runs they can do with poor items. That way people would get more use out of them. Not saying the video is bad, I just think that people who need guides don't have those items and people with those items don't need guides.
seems like you arent doing mf runs that much getting high runes IS rare but still something you can accomplish if you really try it i played a mf sorc like 3 years ago and found SUR LO MAL CHAM JAH OHM IST VEX in 10 days ofc it couldve been just a big amount of luck but thats quite unlikely imo its just about determination i think ^^
lol. you dont look for HRs on ladder, you look for ist and trade up. You can get a ber for about 25 in current ladder, you can get jah and ber in about 2 weeks of playing easy. botting and buying items is lame... just sandbox it and do count runs and hell forge runs, much easier, and not cheating technically like the other avenues you described. hope that helped. :D
Not to mention they're pretty bad anyway. Why fcr amulets and shit when you can just use magefists and then use nagels/bk/sojs/maras/mf amulet... much cheaper and easier to make than fcr amulets and rings that are worth using... Too much insistence on using chance guards... no point

always go for 125% FCR on a hammerdin, its so much faster and the dps on bosses is actually higher even with the lower damage per hit all you really need to do is swap one ring for a 10fcr one and use spirit with 35 fcr

Hey there MrLlama! Been watching your guides and I love them! Been hoping you'd post something along these lines for awhile now. My gf and I are going to start playing in the ladder tomorrow and I'm interested in playing a paladin with her sorceress. What build for paladin do you suggest for leveling purposes on the way up to becoming a hammerdin or smiter? Would you just follow those builds along the way or is something else stronger for the leveling process and making our way to hell? Thanks and keep the awesome videos rolling!
Holy fire until you reach 18, then you can swap into hammerdin and go from there! If you want to be a smiter I would still suggest hammerdin early on until you get some gear later...but you can be a smiter if you have some help for damage like your gf's sorc. Hammerdin definitely strongest though to get through to hell.

For amulet there is a 2 paladin skills and 1-2 to defence auras that can be decent early. Question is it worth going for the 125 FCR break point? Right now with hoto, max spirit shield (42 all rez pala shield), mage fist and arach, I'm missing 10 fcr so swapping ravenfrost or maras amu for something with at least 10 fcr wouldn't be that hard to do.

Holy shield is a must at lvl 30, the whole 4 point setback is nothing at lvl 77 for your damage output. Even if you get bug rushed, it's still worth the defence to prioritize.
I can't remember but, isn't there a bug where off/def GC don't add the synergy bonuses? I know the pally boots with +2 vigor don't apply. Still shocked that 15 years later that never got fixed.
Early mf I would say, 3 sox Ptopaz helm, wiz spike, spirit shield. upped goldwrap, some more mf mixed with fcr to get the 125% and you do want the 125% until you can actually afford stuff like an enigma. Also, telestaff or -ammy ;) It's expensive to repair, but worth it. This early you'll have plenty of room to pick up armors. 50% block is a nice block rate for Hell CS along with the res from the shield and wiz spike and the vitality you'll have. Block is more important when you have less dmg. The higher your dmg, the less you get hit, the less block matters. Magic gambled mf boots with some res or frw or whatever is on it are fine until you find war travs. Running hell meph, dia or andy for the wiz spike is ez pz with just a wand with some res and or a spirit. Without tele, meph is obviously fastest.
matt richardson he's done thousands of lower kurast runs and others and has found the runes Jah and Ber to make the runeword....ith rune is also needed but you'll find a billion of those before finding jah and ber.
i play this game 20 years on single mode only and when i see such things it'ls like playing on cheats for me and it's completely senseless. why u play this anymore if u kill all on hell solo in 10seconds?and wtf teleport on paladin. nice cheats

The enigma runeword on his chest armor gives the wearer +1 to teleport, meaning any class wearing it can cast teleport. There’s a few other runewords that allow you to use abilities from other classes.
