I randomly found LIama a few years ago on Twitch wondering who still plays D2. I asked in his Twitch chat ( unironically) " What keeps you playing D2". He gave an articulate 5 minute sincere answer. Speaking as someone who hasn't played the game in 15 years but logged 1000s of hours back in the day, it is equally cool to both have a D2 remaster and for some of the long time content creators for this game to get well deserved recognition. GG LIama
I randomly found Llama 3 years ago when I was actually already looking to return to the game (38yo boomer, I played that shit at age 16 when it came out, and on and off through the years), then looked for D2 content on YT (probably a guide for something, MFing probably) and was recommended his speedrun WR I think for Assa. I had never seen such passion for this game and such high energy effort and focus ever from anyone. Then I watched some more speedruns and shortly after, I watched him tell the Tulsa tunnel story... Fast forward 3 or so years and here we go :D GG Llama indeed.
I watched him by accident watching RE2 Speedruns and skipped to him doing a random class Speedrun as a Necro. I grew up playing D2 with my brothers and friends and nearly cried when I heard the loading music 😂😍
I saw Llama at Walmart last Thursday. He filled his cart with pineapples and ran for the exit like a goddamn freight train. At least six guards tazed him and he just laughed and shrugged it off. "This is the run!" he yelled. I can't remember the rest but I'm pregnant now and I'm a man.
much appreciated! been so long since i played D2 and couldn't be more stoked on it, i remembered how much i loved Frenzy barb (and whirlwind barb though i might be remembering more from whirlwind D3 barb) anyway....i prefer swords so i think im gonna go that route but it's great to know I can reset skills and probably save my skill reset. So far im sticking as much to this as i can and Icyveins
I wish to advocate for the use of Double Swing and Berserk with this build. The cool part with Frenzy is the increased attack speed stays as a buff for a few seconds after landing hits with it. It ramps up and maxes out this buff after a couple successful swings. Once maxed, simply pairing in a few double swings seems to increase overall dps at some points, especially earlier on before Frenzy is maxed. Double Swing does less damage, but attacks WAY faster than Frenzy, benifitting from that buff too for crazy fast swings. That buff also works for Berserk. The drawback to Berserk being a total drop of defense down to 0 when it is used, seen as a self debuff for a few seconds. I believe that the increased offensive potential can be worth it in many cases, especially vrs physical immune targets. The coolest part about pairing Frenzy with Berserk is using a big nasty 2h weapon in weapon switch. Ramp up that Frenzy buff, make sure the target has Battle Cry, then quick swap for a few buffed Berserk swings with said 2h weapon. Works great with IK maul, which seems pretty common. Hell, the full IK set is honestly decent for a Frenzy build, if some of these suggested pieces are eluding you as you search. But yeah, instead of Taunt for physical damage boost, I humbly submit that Berserk is a more useful synergy that doubles as a great hot swap ability, even if never using this 2 handed option.
This. I've seen Llama (and others) use DS after stacking Frenzy charges, especially single target. With a CB-focused build, DS should be the better option.
I really enjoy your recent guides, especially considering how many first time players and also old school returning gamers it attracts to our favorite game. However, your guides are missing "how to play". For example, when and why do you stack frenzy charges but hit with double swing? When do you use only frenzy? The same thing is true for almost every build you presented. A quick "So this is how it works. You use X Y and Z for this and that." is enough. I know you want to keep these sub-30m.
You build up max stacks of Frenzy and then use your burst of increased attack speed for a super fast Double Swing until the Frenzy stacks wear off, at which point you build them back up, and repeat.
I remember playing d2 growing up, my mom only allowed us to play an HR a day so it took forever to play through especially because we would search every inch of the map and go into every dungeon
Azurewrath on offhand works surprisingly well too. Especially against physical immunes as it has up to 1000 magic damage. Sanctuary Aura keeps enemies at a good distance too.
Made a few frenzy barbs and my most recent is currently 90 hardcore seasonal. One thing not touched on here which I think is THE reason to play frenzy is the on hit effects. When WW, on hit and on kill effects don’t proc, making things like BOTD significantly less stimulating. My favorite part of being frenzy is finding interesting on hit effects to stack. Not only fun from a strategic standpoint, but visually significantly cooler as well.
I loved Barbs as a teenager playing D2, still painful memories of realm down or freezing the game with frenzy barb running so fast! Loving D2R and loving Llama!! Thank you for the great content!
I just completed my first ever hell run this week! Frenzy Barb for the win! I’ve watched all of your Barb guided play throughs along the way and Frenzy is my favorite!
As a long time "Ew Barb"-sayer, I actually came around and learned to enjoy Frenzy barb. Now I'm hooked and am looking into trying my first ever Berserk build (after 21 years of playing)
@@BearThor I farmed for the runes and made a Lawbringer and Crescent Moon. The Lawbringer has Decrepify. And Crescent Moon has Static Field. You can’t even tell enemies are physical immune after that. Stone Skin is much tougher to deal with than Physical Immune for me.
@@BearThor I also only play SSF and it’s been pretty ok. With any attack based class, you have to keep your AR in mind. Frenzy Barb does much better if you slow roll your map progression and kill most enemies as you find them, rather than letting them group up like you would want with a caster class.
Z Barb is my all time favourite character in diablo. I can't wait to put what I've learned from MrLlama into practice with this guy. Won't be my first D2R char tho, that will be op hammers 😁
little late to comment here. but i always like 1 point into WW and beserk on frenzy builds as well. i stopped playing d2 tho before synergy system was introduce. built a few d2 toons now (not alot of time to play these days work / career) but im gonna try to modify this build to get WW and bzerk
I use lawbringer OH, Carrion wind ring and Gface helmet, all 3 are godly and was not mentioned here. ;) Even 3 / 4 / 5 IK set is godly with some expensive jewels in it. ;)
best in slot for baba is Guliface - it adds like 30% clearing speed - aspecially in 8player game. Skills are not that important for baba- %damage is much better and double damage chance are much much more important. Imho my best in slot for frenzy are : Grief phase and lawbringer phase. Lawbringer gives you versatility over phys immune ghosts on top of that cast blue cloud. Sanctuary aura will add 500% damage to undead- just think about it. Its super easy and cheap compared to other weapons. In higher player game - Frenzy is just useless even with top gear - its to slow. So best in slot are: - guiface- helm -grief, lawbrniger pb- weaps - treachery- armor - gores- boots -loh-gloves -dual ravens- for rings - since frenzy on higher level is almost mana free. -strings for belt -hlord for amu - cheap torch - demon limb for 23 enchant self cast- ar incerase to almost 10k add yrself some bo sticks or teleport staff and u have vicious clearing machine up to 3 player game. Areas to farm: -crystaline pasage - any ice caverns - dont affraid souls and ghosut with it( high chance for runes) - meph - u can walk melph with lawbringer- dolls will not touch you. - pits - accient tunnels - solo CS ( in higher player number) - frenzy are to slow. -ws levels - 1 and 2 . Cheerss
You use frenzy for one or two hits, just enough to proc the increased speed then switch to double swing until it runs out, then rinse and repeat. I set frenzy to left mouse click and double swing to right mouse click and it works wonders.
I have a question for anybody who is reading this.. I have found a Lo Rune, and i dont know which runeword to make first for my FrenzyBarb: PB Grief of Fortitude armor? Which and why? Thank you in advance!
barb is a melee build with 1 point to berserk, u dont need Reapers toll , go with pride on might merc. if u encounter phys immune, one shot kill it with 1 point in berserk , 3 shots in players 8
thanks for the video ! just want a confirmation that if i decide to use grief on a phase blade and botd with colossus blade (i know its not the best just excited with the zod rune i finally get ... ) despite the 60% ias on the botd i should put the grief on main hand ? i know the main should be the fastest weapon so im confused ... thanks for any help/confirmation
In regards to Pitzerker, does FCR help anything else aside from teleport from Enigma? I'm confused about Berserk in particular. Is it a spell that is effected by FCR? Or is it a melee attack effected by IAS? Thank you in advance for any info.
I've always been a RU-vid guy, only tune into Twitch once in a blue moon, but I've loved all your content for years now. I watched a bunch of your "let's play" guides as they were coming out, including the Baba, and between that and this, I'm currently leveling a new frenzy barb, double swinging with Malice and Talx3 flails, and it is absolutely crushing through act 2. Can't wait to pick up a wealth and goldwrap to do some gold finding so I can gamble/shop vendors for nice leveling gear for the next wave of characters (I've got my eyes on a +3 hammer scepter from Drognan). Keep up the good work, much love as always.
Why would you play such a gear dependant, non-aoe capable build for the start? It's a much better option to start with something that can deplete shit on a budget. Blizz, Orb, Javs, Wind, Bone, Hammer. Find gear first, then build a Barb.
My Frenzy Barb was awesome in 2002’ish! Hardcore! Never died, but was slow in mobs! But basically an awesome hardcore character! Even survived lag deaths! 👍
I have sword mastery at level 10, but am using maces, since i dont have any good swords. At the same time i dont want to respec. What should i do? I am level 21 in act 3 on Normal and it feels wastefull to have 10 points in a mastery im not even using.
@@grrizzzy7 yes it's called PlugY, but due to binary code restrictions the mod won't come to D2R, I really do hope it will come to D2R eventually because all my i spent time on D2 was SP holy grail plugy
Just being nit picky but it looks like you can get up to plus 4 with a CTA and a 3. This is current so 10+ months ago this may have been true. No sure though. An entire CTA for a plus 1 is obviously not with it.
Not too good of a guide, you will need dex like 2 dex 3 health per level, and why those gloves? Either use draculs or bis steelrend. And no mention of last wish? Ur too much spread out with items
I really like act 3 merc with enchant on this build. Load him up with plus skills and its a huge buff to damage and attack rating and helps with immunes. Backline support is nice too
hello i am new to diablo i have level 30 barb i found 2 Crushflange mace does the crushing blow chance stack if i use 2 of them i mean will it go to 66% or it doest not work?
I found a couple pieces of the arctic set early on normal and the increasing defense has carried me through most of the game so far. I'm wondering if I should make the switch to stealth. Would that be a good idea?
DiabloClone spawned in a keyrun of mine yesterday, and I thought my level 78 1pt smiter would be able to take him. But no, I kept dying and he kept healing. Then I tried my level 64 frenzybarb, which I hadn't even specced right. This actually worked, but probably only because he had prevent monster heal and a life tap wand on switch. He had basically just killed NM baal, so didn't even have the waypoints. But luckily I had DiabloClone spawned in place of Rakanishu, so it was possible to run there. I have respecced now, but I'll try moving the crushing blow equipment back on the paladin and see how that works out.
I see you have one point in item find. When do you use the skill? With the new synergy with find potion, would it make sense to pump more points into find potion for the extra item find?
Hey Llama, love the vids! I got back into this game and decided to try following this build. It's amazing how quick the combo of Grief and Death have let me just speed through Hell :) One question: how does this hold up against Ubers? I figure that will be my endgame before another hiatus, and thanks to my MF sorc I've got pretty much everything I need.
"But Mr. Llama! Mr. Llama! How do I get There?" Sounds like Me. Insanely fast. "You'll complain later when you play a Non-Fast Running character." Too Funny cause it's true. Love your vids.
Im currently playing an experimental Concentrate Barb Physical/elemental Damage Tank. He just shrugs off physical damage like nothing even if cursed with amp damage or decrep. And the gear is relatively cheap. Most expensive being the Grief Phase Blade. Here's how it goes: Helm: Rockstopper with Sol Rune Body Armour: Upped Shaftstop with Sol Rune Shield: Upped Mosers Shield with two Sol Runes Gloves: Draculs Boots: GoblinToe/Gorerider Belt: StringEars/Verdungos Amulet: 23 Damage reduce and 11 resist to all Ring1: 12 resist to all Ring2: RavenFrost Weapon: Grief PhaseBlade Charms: LifeSkiller charms and any SCs that give life+resist I got 2750hp with the shouts, 12300 Defense (When concentrate is active), 70% chance to block and 55% Damage Reduction Plus a further flat 50 reduction to damage. So in a very slim chance he gets damaged for 400 hit points, the actual damage he receives goes down to 150. Hell ancients had a hard time killing him even with a might aura and cursed mod. Resists aren't gonna be up there with this build but I have a full Irathas set and an Upped Guardian Angel armor with two Um Runes to get my resists to all up to 95%!! Add a wisp projector to the mix and youre basically immune to those gloams in Hell WSKeep Not exactly a fast killer (because its defense oriented) compared to an all out offensive build like a frenzybarb or zealot but still dishes out the hurt with the CBs and DS from masteries.
One thing noone sais about frenzy barb in d2r is perhaps the most underestimated change. Frenzy is INCREDIBLE on PC with console controller. I levelled faster with less effort with a controller because of the auto targeting and controller stick to control movement in a more responsive and fluid way. 0 times did I misclick an item or missed a monster and moved instead during my levelling from 20-85. How about that?
In hardcore ladder I like starting with dual civerb maces, they work well all the way thru normal.. then I switch to dual aldur maces and use those all the way thru nm lol. Super cheap, not the best damage by a long shot, but you stay alive and save runes for better Runewords
Much needed for new players! Keep it up Llama, even after a couple of years of not playing the game you keep me up to date. Thumbs up and keep uploading for us!
Im running frenzy, speedy Barb too, its fun running around fast af and kill everything in few hits, im only level 31 atm, but its fun. As well, if only I would find a 5 socket weapon for level 27 :D PS: I used to play Whirlrend barb in Diablo 3, that was fun too, just twisting around fast af across the map applying huge damage bleed. These speed builds are crazy fun.
What would you put less points into to make room for more points into increased speed? I'm still a newish player, but I played a non ladder Hammerdin and a Javazon for ladder season 2 and wanted to try a melee build for season 3, frenzy barb seems like the most fun even though most tier lists seem to say its one of the worst builds at the moment. Speed barb looks like a lot of fun though. Would love to try it.
Honestly, I wish taunt could be a movement speed synergy bonus as all this move speed gives me headache, just pick an extra skill to be another dmg synergy to have some choice. If I could I'd just double swing yet it just doesn't have the damage
I have Grief PB on main hand and im working towards Last Wish PB on off hand as suggested. What would be a good Phase blade to combo (off hand) while im trying to farm Last Wish???
I can't wait to try this build on the first real boss 🙌 💪 😎 I'm killing it with just double swing ATM as my gloves give me 30 percent extra attack speed.
Hello, I have a question to the pros: When you use two different weapons (I use Death and BOTD) will all stats count? When I have Death in left hand the lifeleech and manaleech from BOTD is not shown in the char screen. Does it mean it works only when I wear it in left hand? Thank you in advance.
Awesome video! I‘m running a hybrid frenzy/find-item barb right now and it‘s super fun to play! I‘m running pits, AT, and Eldritch/Shenk. Any tipps on which other areas the frenzy barb really shines in?
Best thing to do is make 2 grief phase blades if you can. Zerker axes have horrible durability and you’ll be repairing a lot. Ebotd works because it’s indestructible. Phase blades are also indestructible so making a botd phase blades is pointless plus the base dmg would suck.
Question If I dont invest anything into Dexterity What should I use? 2 rings one amulet of angelics for massive ar boost? Or 2 BK and metalgrid amulet?
I have a lot of questions about Frenzy. If you're supposed to hit a few times to build a couple Frenzy stacks and then switch to Double Swing for the attack speed and the DPS, why all the synergy investment into Frenzy? Shouldn't you add max Bash so that you do as much damage as you can once you switch to Double Swing? Also, can I make sure he keeps hitting the same target? When I use Frenzy he has a mind of his own and I can't focus on the targets that do the most damage. I just recently beat Hell with my Frenzy Barbarian and I am using an ethereal Nord's Tenderizer together with a Baranar's Star and use Mace mastery, and it takes me like at least 10 hits to kill ONE cow. I don't know if I should switch to Whirlwind or keep going with Frenzy. Some guides advice swapping to Whirlwind once you're a lot higher level, but not this one. Thanks!
why is it that deadlystrike and crushing bow dont stack on main and offhand? my off hand says 33% crushing and my stats is saying 15% (from the boots)..
Mace to start due to easy to get from shop in act1, fast attack speed. Then act 2 gives you flails with 2 or 3 sockets in shop. This could carry you to lvl 30 or so until you move on to something better.
Hi, I have just started a Frenzy/DS D2R Barb. Both skills don't seem to do anything but be a double swing. No haste or attack buff. Anyone else having this problem?
I'm at nightmare act 2 and i got 2 2-2 warcries wep in my off wep loadout from charsi, and got 2 King's Grace Broad Sword as my main wep. I find it pretty sick. Any suggestions for upgrades? Thanks for the vids + guide man!
I used all your advice and got my barb all the way through normal and nightmare no problem. Malice and tal tal tal flails= normal. Black Knout and herald of zakurum mace = nightmare. I’ve never played a mace barb and it was so freaking fun!
Been watching you and brunski for information. Last time I played this game I was like 8 lol. It’s cool to have these guides especially for the runes and rune words. Thank ya good sir!
