Guide: How to Download & Install C&C Generals Zero Hour on Windows 11 

2024 UPDATE: A new video will be made showing you how to install the game via Steam. This video will likely go live within the coming months. I'm still researching and preparing everything to make the video. For now, the process is basically the same, just use Steam instead of the EA App.

I love you for the fix. When EA made the origin app obsolete and forced me to download the EA app all of my CnC games stopped working. Spent hours trying to figure out how to fix it over the course of almost a year

USA Airforce General for me every time! I used to load up a combat chinook with 2 humvees (each with with 5 x rocket soldiers inside) plus 2 x snipers in the spare seats. This made an incredibly fast moving and heavy-hitting airborne platform. Perfect for hit and run tactics or sneaking into an enemy base to cause some carnage.

I am very happy that many people are still playing this game ❤️

Since C&C Ultimate Collection is now out on Steam i think you should make a tutorial on how to download Generals: Zero Hour on steam

when i click fix in the dekstop appears 2 different command and conquer and both have bug when i click the units to move they stay there and they dont move how to fix it?...And when i open it from EA the game doing missmatch. HELP

Bro ia get the game from freind by usb , i played it about weaks and yesterday i install gentool and today it asks for cd to play , note its open normaly but doenst run any map to play solo

I love it to finally play this game again on my modern PC! One question: I've disabled the full screen windowed setting in Gen Tool, but I still can't edge scroll. How can I resolve this? Edit: apparently I'm an idiot: there are 2 shortcuts for ZH. 1 normal and 1 windowed. I played the normal full screen and that went well, until I finished a gen challenge mission and right after the victory screen I received an serious error :(

If I am ready to play because I have done everything correctly, can I still switch antivirus on and play without any problems?

Hey! First of all, thank you very much, what you're doing for this game and its community is incredible. Just one question/issue I've had: I can't move the camera by moving the cursor to the edges on the screen when executing the game in Windowed mode. - I tried enabling/disabling borderless mode via GenPatcher but the problem persists. - This doesn't happen when launching from the 'normal' full-screen shortcut, but then the game tends to crash when Alt + Tabbing, so I'd rather fix the Windowed issue. Any ideas as to what could be happening there? Thank you very much!

One other issue I had that couldn't be fixed using GenPatcher & GenTool: Whenever I play large games (1 vs 7) with many units (like missile defenders), some of these units get stuck and won't move or attack anymore. It seems like they have trouble making their way through my patriot defense lines. After a while the game then crashes ("serious error"). The only solution I found was to not build any infantry units but only helicopters and aircraft, but this makes the game less fun. Do you have any other tips on how to prevent this bug...?

Thank u sooooooooooo very much for helping me download this game, I actually downloaded it from EA App its currently 19.99 at the moment cheapest one right now ! I had a bit of an hiccup with it saying directX 8.1 but all I needed to do was click on locate file location and deleted the dbh thing .. for the people u will find a short video on that THANK U !!!!!

Not only MS does not support old games (DX8) but they treat the patcher as a virus...

i have the EA app on WIN11 and the game wont download fully how to fix that?

I do now wonder, what version of the game is the best, the Complete Collection, TheFirstDecade, or straight off the CD's they came from.

Slight qualm: I installed it from GenPatcher, and I loved the full 4k setup it had - it worked like a charm a few matches. Then I finished the mod installs from Gen Launcher, and tried them, and then it said "looks like the first time you played, want to set recommended settings", and I should have clicked no. Now, no matter how I set it up, it is not as good looking as before, and I am annoyed. It doesn't even have my resolution in the menu. Yet, running the genpatcher again, I can't run the options.ini patch again.... sigh.

Anyone know why Generals Works fine. But Zero Hours still show the "Serious Error" message at start-up?

I presume, once genpatcher has fully installed, I can turn back on my antivirus protection and I won't have to worry about any conflicts right?

Another good video- just a few clarifications: -Does GenPatcher work with mods? -Does GenPatcher's new features (like the new HUD and the hotkeys) work with mods? Regardless, thanks again Legionnaire!

What now? You can't actually download or use Origin anymore? I am left with a library of C&C games on my EA app that don't work at all

Has anyone tried to install the game from the original CD's and gotten stuck on "Removing Applications"? I've been sitting there for 20 mins with the HD light going full like it's doing something, but it's really not. And what applications is the install program trying to remove? Seems odd.

When I launch a game the suppose to be transparent hud is just replaced with a pink rectangle, does anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, the problem I have is actually getting Origin to download it through DirectX errors

still got the disk, i dont wanna use Orgin for this, same for sims1 which isnt needed to have orgin either. i thought this was an installation from the disk, not downloading from a page...

So i reinstalled zero hour after a long time being forgotten and had a question, im sure i remember that back in the day when i would drag the cursor to the edge of the screen, it would scroll the battlefield, and now it doesnt seem to scroll and i have to use my right mouse button to bring up the scroll function, does anyone know if theres a setting to enable scroll at screen edge? just feels somewhat limiting to not be able to just drag my pointer around to look round the map

I followed your video step by step but still got the startup crash. any reason why? the weird part is when I click on the Generals application to start it, that loads just fine.. but any time I click on the ZH application to start it then it crashes right away

FYI: Windows Defender (the default, built-in antivirus in Windows 10 and 11) does not flag GenPatcher as a virus.

HELP! Where can I download C&C Generals and Generals:Zero Hour? I go to the Origin website, click on Generals, it takes me to the "Remastered Collection", and I bought it and installed it, but Generals and Zero Hour are not there. ANy ideas? Thanks. Ken L
