Are you planning a trip to Acadia National Park? Located along the East Coast in Maine, this is one of the most visited national parks in the U.S. It’s also adjacent to the popular vacation town of Bar Harbor, making it easy to explore both destinations during your trip. Here’s where you should stay and a few must-see stops along the way while visiting Acadia National Park.
Where to stay. The national park provides three campgrounds that can accommodate RVs and one tent-only campground. There are also plenty of places to stay in Bar Harbor, just outside of the park.
Park Loop Road. Driving this stretch of roadway around the park is a great way to get your bearings before setting off on foot to explore. You can also combine the drive with an audio tour to learn more about the Acadia as you wind your way through the area.
Take a hike. There are more than 150 miles of hiking trails at Acadia, ranging from easy to strenuous. More than 100 miles of the park’s trails are dog friendly for those traveling with their four-legged friends.
Jordan Pond House. After working up an appetite, stop in at the Jordan Pond House for a bite to eat. There’s indoor and outdoor dining, and this establishment is known for its famous popovers, so don’t forget to add one to your order.
Cadillac Mountain. Catching a sunrise at Cadillac Mountain is one of the most popular activities at the park. During busy months, this is a reservation-only attraction, so be sure to reserve your ticket beforehand to secure your spot.
Bar Harbor. Once you’ve explored the park, head into the town of Bar Harbor for shopping and dining, and check out the Bar Island Land Bridge during low tide to walk on the ocean floor.
