In the description, I've included links to all of the platforms and sellers I discuss (including timestamps if you'd like to jump to a specific section). If you have any more general questions about buying pins online, I'd be happy to answer them!
Hello! I am just getting into pin collecting and I’ve never traded before. I have recently purchased the 3rd set from the Mickey Mouse Memories collection but I only want to keep one of the pins as I’m not a huge fan of the design of the other two. Would I be able to trade the other two (still on their backing card) or would this not be okay as a whole set would be more tradeable? I’m just not sure if there’s any ‘rules’ to trading pins from sets or not. Great video by the way, this helped me out a lot! Xx
You can absolutely trade individual pins from the set! I think a lot of people are interested in collecting the whole sets, but I think the individual pins would also make good traders!
Hi There! I have two rare Epilepsy Awareness Day Pins. Brand new. They are first edition pins. And I was wondering if you know an auditor or someone who would be interested in them.
Zip a Dee Doo Disney I just started my pin collection your videos help me a lot how I can contact you to ask you some question I have Can I get your email or give you my one of the question is that pages on eBay you give are 100% safe and the pin are really real ?? I hope you can answer me thanks to exist
Great video, Emily! Very informative and put together nicely as always. Thank you for the DPB Store shout out as well! I didn't realize about Mickey Monthly, good to know.
this really helped me. I had given up Disney Pin trading after I bought a fake lot on ebay a few years ago. I was recently cleaning my attic when I found my old pin lanyards. I found this video and this channel and now I'm back into the pin trading world.
Great informative video , thanks Emily! I was wondering if you could do a video talking about older pins , there's a lot of videos showing how to tell if a new pin is genuine or not because of the Mickey print on the back but I noticed older pins don't have that so it's a whole different territory that I have no idea about . Just a suggestion 😊😃
Emily, this was such an informative video. Also, THANK YOU for sharing all of those links to sellers and FB groups to head to for support. You're so helpful...Paypal goods and services...got it. I don't even realize that I need this information until you share it with me...LOVE. I completely agree that Disney's quality control is NOT impressive. I've experienced it first hand and was quite irked. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video for us.
Excellent video with great information. I totally agree about fake pins. At the beginning of my pin collecting journey, I thought since a pin set had all of the material with it that it was real. Negative! The Mickey backs are not the same as the official ones. They are smaller and feel different. And, the fake pins are made of a really light material. Highly recommend this video. :)
Thank you so much for this video... I've been searching for one like this and finally u made one. ☺ I am from Saint Lucia 🇱🇨(The Caribbean) and I recently started collecting Disney Pins as a result the only option I have to obtain pins are thru online purchases. This was super helpful.
I’m soooo excited to see Bizy Bee as a safe seller from you 🤗 I have been purchasing Mystery packs for my first pin Unboxing and I purchased several from there !!!
Very informative and fact-filled vlog! I have not yet gone down that slippery slope of pin collecting, but if I ever do, I'd want to start here! And I love, love, love your ears!😊
Thank you so much for making this video. My teen wants to start buying pins to start a collection and to have some when we visit Disney. Thank you so much again for all the information!!
Thanks so much for this video! Seriously. I'm going to Disney World for the first time ever in a few months and just came across pin trading. I was about to order some from Amazon but will now probably be ordering from mydpins on eBay! This video was extremely helpful!
Was linked here by a fellow pin trader, I can say that I ordered a few pins from an ebay seller and two of them were obviously scrappers out of the package, but they all were in those little ziplocs and I was unaware that was a telltale sign of scrappers. I'll need to re-evaluate some of my pins now, as I'm preparing for a trip to Disney to trade. Thank you for producing such an informative video, though your comment about the pins on staff lanyards and boards does make me wonder - is it even worth trying to trade with in-park collections anymore if so many of them are fake?
Quick question: I was browsing through eBay recently, and I spotted a 2017 Star Wars celebration Ashoka pin for $55. I’ve been looking for this pin for a while, and this was the only listing that I’ve seen for it on eBay at all. I REALLY REALLY want this pin, but I’m scared that I’ll get scammed! According to the pictures, the pin appears to be factory sealed and in original brand new condition. I haven’t heard/seen any Star Wars celebration pin fakes, so I think that I’ll be safe for now, but I would really like another pin trader’s opinion! Anyways, great video! It helps a lot!!! 😄
Thanks so much for this and sharing your knowledge! I'm new to collecting and I constantly use this and your other vids as reference. Do you know of any reputable Paris sellers that also do pickups?
I’ve bought some amazon but never in bulk. I make sure they come with their back and they are about the same price as they are in park. Is that a good idea? But mainly I get my pins at mydisneyshop. They are nicely priced.
I know this video is old but I wanted to say thank you so much for this video. Im brand new to pin collecting and there was one pin I really wanted which was a Kingdom Hearts pin. I was really worried about getting a fake one but one of the sellers you recommended (bizzybee1) was selling it so I got it from them. :)
Hello I have been wanting to buy a booster set/lot from bizzybee1 and I don’t know if they are real pins, you said she was a safe seller but I don’t know about this. If you can reply and tell me your opinion that would be great. (It is 25 pins for $50)
Your budget for grail pins can be as big or as little as you have and are willing to spend! Some people are willing to spend $500 on a pin, others stay in the $50 and under range. All depends on personal preferences and spending habits!
Hey Emily! Thanks for the video, it was great. I do have a question. Do you know why some of the Disney Mystery 5 pin packs are sold on ebay for like 10.00 less than in the parks? I know people aren't going to sell them and take a 10 dollar loss, and I know cast members have discounts, but is it that big of one? I have researched online and can't find any answers and I always want to buy pins that I don't have any doubt about when I'm purchasing online! Thanks in advance and I love your channel! :)
I believe I'm in the fake pin paranoia phase right now. I live in Michigan and only make it to WDW maybe once a year on average. I just got burned on a fake ebay lot. I'm wondering if this is worth the effort anymore. I'm also wondering if the loose pins and backed pins I bought at several gift shops in Orlando are legit.
This video was very helpful :) Thank you!! Is another way to determine if an ebay seller is legit if they offer returns? Or does thay not make a difference.
Unfortunately, offering returns isn't a way to indicate authentic vs. counterfeit sellers. (Most counterfeit sellers have returns open so they can keep feedback scores high.) However, in general it's much better policy for an eBay seller to have returns open, in case there's any flaw or issue with the item.
this video is very informative and helpful, however i’m heartbroken because one of my favorite pins I traded a little girl for has the tell tale soft enamel. I’m keeping it anyways! tsum tsum dug is too cute!
Sooo I'm pretty new to this. I bought a pin lot of 10 recently, but they were more than $1.50 per pin. After looking online I don't see anything that screams fake to me (the colors seem to be normal, the mickey waffling looks normal, nothing is misspelled on the back, they all have nubs) but now I'm really nervous :/
Also, whenever buying on Mercari ask! I was looking at an LE of 150 and was curious if it was real or not because it was only 25$, I asked the seller and he removed the item!
Absolutely! In either of the pin trading/selling groups listed below, you can make a post to help inquire about authenticity of your pins. (There is also a dedicated FB is my pin a scrapper group, but I can't fully recommend that one.)
As always, thank you for your time spent making these videos! Just wanted to let you know that magicatyourdoor.com and tpwmonthly.com don't seem to be up and running anymore.
I recently bought from a well known seller on insta (that has been recommended by many people like Disneykittee etc) and paid under friends and family because I thought it was trusting but it's been two months and still nothing I've asked the seller but it just says in transit and there's no way to see where it is even though it should have taken a week but now there's nothing I can do about it 😭
Was it international or domestic? International packages can get stuck at customs, but usually arrive within 1-6 weeks. You see friends/family on Insta a lot, since that platform is built more on reputation, but even if I know the seller well, I will /always/ add on the extra buck or two for goods/services. Keep in contact with the seller, and you can still try contacting PayPal if doesn't get resolved!
I know singular pins that look like they have the original backing card can be faked but I didn’t realise the Paris boosters were 😭 worried about my cupcake set now 😞 Are there known sellers for this? So I can avoid x
Unfortunately the Paris cupcake set is one that is faked. The fakes I've seen have an inverted, raised Mickey head pattern on the back, and Angel always seems to be missing a piece of enamel on her stomach. The majority of these sets I see on eBay are fake.
do you know if the hot sauce collectible pins are faked? i’m pretty sure it’s been bought from the disney parks because it has a $29.99 sticker on it with a barcode and a disney parks logo, but then at the top it has ‘www.disneypins.com’ on it, but the ebay seller seemed pretty legit, and was from florida, so it’d made sense that they’d buy them from the park and resell? sorry, i’m from the uk and new to this all :•)
Hi! Great video. I"m not sure when this video was made but I don't believe kiljoy667 is a safe seller. I was looking for a specific Star Wars pin and the one on killjoy667's is definitely 100% fake. Buy from this seller at your own risk.
Abbey Roche I can 100% guarantee that kiljoy667 is still among the absolute safest sellers you can get. He is incredibly well known and respected in the pin community, all their pins will be authentic.
