We love the Outer Banks--although can be crowded at times. The mix of nature and history really appeals to us and oh the seafood!

It also has great fishing One of the best places is at lighthouse point. It is south of the lighthouse

We call the haulover Canadian Hole because Canadians will swim in the shallow waters when it is too cold for us. The Haulover is where ships built in the mainland were pulled by oxen in the shallow sound across the dunes out to the Atlantic.

Wow, I am surprised a whole lighthouse was moved, and that place looks like a great waterfowl refuge.

Yes, the Pea Island national wildlife refuge is a great place for waterfowl. I still can't fathom how you move a giant lighthouse like that. The answer is: very slowly! However, the video of the move is amazing to see. I'd be afraid of having the whole thing tip over!
