Hello my thrifty peeps, hope you are excited to do some second-hand treasure hunting because that's what this video is about: a huge roundup of Edinburgh's main charity shop hotspots where you'll get your paws on the best vintage fashion pieces, unique gifts and unhinged pieces of millennial history - Marie Kondo would be the very opposite of proud!
But we'll also talk about the practicalities of gifting stuff to charity shops, where to watch more charity shop content and see a lil' cheeky vintage haul from my video making process. Let's goooo!!!

We spotted you during our Leith stroll the other day! Was too shy to say hi & out of earshot geeked out at my partner "oh my god did you see who we just walked past!!!" In fact you caught my "deer in the headlights" expression at 2:49 which is hilarious 😂oh no... +Another great stop is the Leith Flea Market at Drill Hall every month!

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I'm SUPER glad that you missed my favourite charity shop as it is one of the less popular ones and I always find great gems there!! It will stay hidden I suppose :) Really fun idea for a video!

Oh that’s very understandable! Sometimes it’s tough because sharing hidden gems should be my job but….. I also kinda want to keep some just for myself, especially not being super fond of busy businesses 😅

I recently gave my wedding dress to the specialty charity shop you mentioned in Stockbridge, it was really lovely to get the letter about them selling it and getting the Gift Aid too. I would definitely recommend Stockbridge and Bruntsfield/Morningside for the charity shops, and both areas have a nice mix of bakeries, book shops, and gift shops too, to make a day of it.

Morningside and Stockbridge are by far the best places for charity stuff. The Oxfam in Stockbridge in particular is amazing for music.

I lOVED the charity shops in Edinburgh. I did pick up a few lovely things which I am wearing finally (since it is getting cold over here). And the best bit is that it is a reminder of our time there.

Ahh I love browsing charity shops, I enjoyed this video! You definitely need to do Morningside, that can't be missed out of any Edinburgh charity shop zone round-ups. A follow-up video maybe? ;)

I know what you mean about that Save the Children looking like Urban Outfitters 😂 Also I knocked something over in there (it was totally fine!) and the staff watched me like a hawk the whole rest of the time I was there, it was a little unnerving tbh. Morningside has a bunch of decent shops too, mixed in terms of quality/price, but really handy if you want to trawl through lots of shops in one small area and definitely some gems to be found. Also wanted to say thank you so so much for all your videos, I’ve just moved to Scotland from NZ and they’ve been such a help for tips and activities plus beautifully produced and interesting 😊 watching your 48 hours in Stirling helped me decide to try and move there soon ❤

I’ve lived one year in Edinburgh, in Corstorphine, and the charity shops there were great, especially the big one by Tesco. I sure miss them, and Edinburgh as a whole.

At Goodwill I found a boomerang in the original packaging made by a shop in Australia. It was pretty cool to research the history of the shop, and to toss the boomerang around in an open field. It really worked!

I must say Dalry/Gorgie charity shops were the most generous for me, I've left there pound or two. I looove Morningside as well. Need to to visit Stockbridge! Have you heard of Little Free Library? There is plenty in Edi - take a book and leave a book. My library is based on those little boxes scattered all over the city

I am looking forward to one day at least during my visit to check out some charity shops. I am a thrifter at home and would love to see what I might find to bring back. Also, I was surprised about what you said about suitcases. I am on a couple of travel groups and they actually recommend looking for them at charity shops for a second check on. I will keep what you said in mind.

I was in Edinburgh Spring 2022 & I went to many charity shops looking for a suitcase but I only found one shop that had a small suitcase, but not at any others. I ended up buying a suitcase in Primark instead. I love the adventure of poking around charity shops. Have a wonderful trip 🙋🏼‍♀️

Went to morningside earlier today and compared to south Wales it's extortionate! Only two of the 5 or 6 we visited were actually reasonably priced. First BHF we visited was boots all over £60, and next jumpers for close to £30, Managed to snag a pair of shoes from M&S for a tenner at oxfam but other than that, all too overpriced

Visiting Edinburgh this December for my honeymoon and have added loads of your recommendations over the last year! Would you consider doing a video on antique shops? I have Unicorn, Cavanagh's, and Duncan & Reids so far on my Google My Map I've been making - but I'd love to see if you have any thoughts on them or any more to add! I'm an architectural historian so I love to focus on the vintage and older goodies, hehe

We might have been at the same shops. I did this shoping a week ago, but due to traveling with one bag, I did not purchase anything. However, when I return July1, I am looking for a charity shop suitcase and shopping!

Best charity shop in Edinburgh (IMHO) is the Bethany in Stockbridge - has everything, electrics, clothes, books and a great vintage/antique selection and high turnover. :-) Found some cracking bargains there, haven't watched vid yet so you'll probably cover them but best areas for charity shops I think are Stockbridge, Morningside and South Clerk st ! You want to go to charity shops in the more affluent areas like Stockbridge and Morningside because you get better stuff generally,

Colour coded bookshelves look brilliant but if you are trying to sell or buy books they should be in author alphabetical order - I do not even look at books in shops that are in colour coded order - I buy many many books and they are losing out - all my own opinion of course!

Thrift shops in America and charity shops in the UK are two completely different things. Your title is misleading for American tourists. Please reconsider your use of American language.
@simonmountney
@simonmountney 3 месяца назад
Nothing better to do today? If we're going to spend time unnecessarily correcting people's use of language I think it's worth pointing out that American isn't a language, it's a dialect of English. They are called charity shops here because 19 out of 20 of them are run by charities.
