I wish this was for older people that those in college. It's harder to make friends in the workforce. Also, why are so few friendship articles about men? They always emphasize women as if they're the only ones who need friends.

How to MAKE friends in the first place? Edit 4 years later and after having gone to uni: Fuck, I don't know how I made friends. They just plopped into my lap. I still don't know how to get more friends.

also, another really important thing is to tell them how much they mean to you, that you love them, or miss them, or maybe you see something that reminds you of them and you just grab the opportunity and call!...cause, sure, these things are important when you are close too, but being far apart you really need to hear them out loud or really see them in their eyes..even if you dont really have sth to talk about at that moment, send a heartwarming big smile, you still love them they need to know!

My BFF moved away last summer. It was heart breaking for me. We have been friends since we were toddlers and I missed her so much. Then we started phoning,texting and video chatting more often. And we manage to talk almost every day. I am going to visit her this summer for a few weeks. We will see each other every summer. Thanks for the tips!

Me and my friend live far away but we still stay in touch

my best friend recently moved abroad to a whole different continent, and we stay in touch with emails. we send 1000+ word emails every few days about every single little thing that happens in our lives. projects, homework, fandoms, future plans, mutual friends, home life, new habits, EVERYTHING. it really helped, and she recently came back for a while and it didn't feel awkward at all - I've even asked for her to get a video from her awesome new teachers and friends saying hi! xD

First of all, I live in Appalachicola, Florida and all my friends live in Eastpoint, Florida, so we don't talk in person much, I get to see them at school and I will be seeing my BFF/cousin/ sister, so, that's cool! And number one rule with friendships; BE YOURSELF! I've come to know that trying to act someone you're not, results in a lot of bad shit, trust me! All of your friends will love you for who you are!

I can't agree more! Call me old fashioned or whatever you want, but i truly think that a good friendship can only form in face-to-face communication and it takes time to create a friendship. It also takes work to maintain it because...well you aren't really friends anymore if you haven't talked in 4-5 yrs right? Don't get me wrong, i love social media and i use it too to keep in touch. But i think online communication can only take us so far and to truly develop a relationship, you need to see each other in person. thanks for a great video wellcast ^^

They have a video on how to break toxic relationships. Frankly, a person who treats you like that is not a friend. Friendship means respecting each other, and she obviously don't. They also have a video on bullying. I hope everything sorts itself out for you :)

Absolutely! When you're in school, you're already connected to so many networks by default-classes, sports teams, kids in your neighborhood. After graduation, you have a try a bit harder to build those networks, especially if you don't connect to anyone at work. Pick a cause you're passionate about and volunteer; you'll already have something in common with your fellow volunteers and it's easier to forge connections.

Perhaps if you share a little with her about what you've gone through being depressed, she might be more open to sharing what she's going through. That's so great that you're there for her, but not everyone is comfortable opening up to others. If she's really being abused by this coach, you should speak with one of her parents, because they might not know what it going on, and can help her better.

I've litteraly never had a best friend. I have no girls in my class that live close, whom I could be closer friends with. At my old middle school I had a best friend but she moved across the whole country. So I've got litteraly. No on e. I just want someone I can be myself with and have fun and just being close. I'm already 14 and have thrown away so much time being home from school cause I was depressed and now I know none!

I tried my best to maintain my friendship with my friend who moved 20 minutes away, and I thought everything was okay. We hung out almost every weekend and texted/talked all the time, but then he just left and abandoned me and everyone else he knew from our old school. I just don't understand... I went through something traumatic and I pushed everyone away and blamed everyone for what happened to me now I don’t have close friendships anymore. Now I only have my boyfriend and a few associates. I can’t gain back the trust of my old friends but I want friends again.

I know we have to go to the next step and just get out of it, and I know you did a video of poisonous friendships. But I would like a video about approaching other people, making new friends and make the new friendship grow strong. Could you do it? I have a serious problem with making knew friends, because even if most of the time people like me, we don't get to the "friends level".

I had friends in school that I don't talk to anymore and I don't want that to happen again with my collage friends I got 1 year left to make sure we will be seeing each other

I had friends in different classes but then I spent some time with some friends in my class, I knew I screwed up and I felt weird going to them and say hi so I didn’t for like 2 days so the next week I went up to them because non of my other friends were around so I could apologize they brought up how I ignored them so I exactly said “ yeah I’m sorry about that”. Yeah it’s a crapy apology but that’s all I was strong enough to say. The conversation got weird and I was just following them around . Then my other friend came and it got even weirder they even asked me “ before “ where’s your friend” which really kinda hurt my feelings it’s like they were shoving me into a box and shipping me to the ocean. No one would talk to me so I left and told my friend they don’t wanna talk to me so il just go. Ever since then I haven’t talked to them EVER 😭😭😭😭😫🤧 The worst part Is I felt like I saw it coming after. I keep shoving my feelings away saying “ oh we weren’t meant to be friends when I knew we were”. And it hurts me inside to know that we haven’t talked in like a month 😭😨. Every time I see them in the hall I get butterflies in my stomach. Even today I had gym they were there sometimes it feels like the world it’s trying to make us friends again and that’s all I ever want in my life but it’s probably not gonna happen anyways 😢😥😭 I keep telling myself to apologize but I’m just to scared to. Sometimes I blame it all on my but the thing is I’m not just ignoring them there ignoring me. A few months ago my friend who is four years younger than me graduated from college and ever since he left I feel like he doesn’t value our friendship the way I do. When I was able to be around him he always smiled and said hi to me and even hugged me now that he’s gone and busy with life he doesn’t answer texts much anymore. The last time I talked to him he said the reason he hadn’t been communicating with me as normal for the past five months (at that point) was because he was dealing with personal stuff. It really bothers me that our friendship has ended up like this he told me I did nothing wrong when I asked him if I did something.

I don't think maintaining friendships is not that simple for boys but i can see how it will work on most girls and introducing your new friends to your friend will just make your friend feel uncomfortable and it will make things more complicated

Assume that everyone is doing their best at any given time. Even if it seems halfassed or unloving, ask why? What’s happening in their life that’s causing them to be standoffish? Be there for them.

Haha I’m trying to talk to people I’ve drifted away from but still think about lots. I have friend who I’ve been friends with for five years...but haven’t seen them in two. We like less than 20 minutes away, yet it’s been so long. I’ve lacked communication like crazy. I actually only talk to like one or two people via text most of the time. What sucks is I have other friends I rarely talk to because I suck at communication. I reaLLY don’t want how my communication is to effect how my friendships go, because I miss a lot of them.

how do you start a friendship from a stranger that you didn't know?

My best friend has been really depressed lately. Me and another friend of her keep trying to help her but she won't listen. Me and the other girl have both been clinically depressed and we tell her to seek help or to come to us but she keeps saying we "don't understand." She is in an activity with a verbally abusive coach that calls her names and threatens her. The coach also tries to tell them they can't do any other activities. My friend defends her but turns on us for trying to help. Advice?

What if your friend is too busy working and does not like to text, and spends most of the rest of their time around their family? I got a friend like this i'd like to know more. Even got her an Xmas gift she absolutely loved even more then anything her family got her (i'm 32 male, she's 37 female) and thanked me "soooo" much. She's starting to ignore my texts now though which is weird as we used to text quite often, Is moving soon to be closer to all her family, told me to phone her home although she's rarely there due to work, and her cell has limited minutes she tells me. We go for coffees sometimes and talk for hours and still even to this day tells me she always enjoys our times together, and still wants to get together on her days off sometimes. She's single btw, got out of a 20 year relationship, not that i'm into her that way...only friendship.

These tips didn't really help for me. In my situation, I'm ALWAYS the one trying my hardest to keep in touch but it soon gets frustrating and annoying because she doesn't do anything back and then I give up. I gave a month ago and my friend and I haven't talked since. We live in different continents. We only have Skype to communicate through.
