Thanks so much for this! I'm from New Zealand, never been to more of America than LA disney land but now I have to write about Seattle - this is life saving!
Thanks for the video! For someone who has never been there, it is nice to see a video like this to get a better idea of what living in Seattle might be like.
I had the opportunity to visit Seattle and many of the neighboring cities/towns and neighborhoods. It's truly a awesome place. I wanted to move after being there. Great Vid!
We spent a couple of weeks in Seattle 2008, stayed in a lovely apartment in Queen Anne overlooking the Magnolia boat harbor. We had a great time and will be back fairly often, as funds allow. We were lucky with the weather, saw Mt Rainier nearly every day.
I know you uploaded this some 5 years ago, but thanks anyway for sharing. My wife and I are moving up there soon and this really helped me come up with a list of things to see when we get there. Much appreciated!
Very, very well done video. My fiancee and I live in Pennsylvania and we spent a week in Seattle for the first time over New Year's earlier this year--fireworks from the Space Needle! We loved it. Oh, and even though it was New Year's, it was sunny for 6 days straight. Unreal LOL. We're going back next month to get married. Love the city...and you covered all the hot spots. :)
Seattle, San Francisco and Miami are definitely among my favorite cities because they have so much character without being too spread out, too hurried, too polluted or too cold.
Good job on the video! Lived in Seattle for almost 5 years and been away a year this month. Finding myself homesick lately and ready to move back..... when the job market picks back up
I'm moving to the Seattle area for college in less than a month. I currently live in Virginia, so I'm both excited and terrified for the move. I'm moving by myself, and I have no family anywhere near the area, so that kind of adds to the terror and excitement. Your video actually calmed my nerves a bit, thank you. :)
We are considering moving to Seattle from NJ. It was either Seattle or San Diego...and well Seattle just seems like a better fit for us. We will be out there for a visit in Feb. Thanks for this video Dave. It's great!!!!!!
Try South Everett. It's about 20 miles north of Seattle and is a nice suburb. North Everett isn't as nice though unless you go really north but the houses are more expensive.
Seattle's high cost of living/traffic are problems. It could not be more different than Florida, though. No thunderstorms, mild summers/winters (rare snow), cloudy. Nearby mountains and lots of hiking, beautiful islands and some of the thickest, tallest evergreen forests in the world. It's definitely very green, but it is a totally different kind of green than Florida. The cost of living is a lot lower in surrounding cities/neighborhoods, but they're also a lot less urban.
Great video, but anyone visiting needs to hop in a car and head about an hour north to Everett and take a tour of the Boeing factory, worth the drive. Also check out Deception Pass Bridge on Whidbey islajd, its unbelievable.
if i had a choice of any city i could relocate to and have everything i have now. it would be there. close to the sea. close to mountains. perfect temps year round and not nearly as overwhelming as cali
Is living in or near Seattle worth the higher cost of living? I'm currently living in Orlando Florida, not a bad place but nothing to do other than theme parks. Large amount of crime here, I don't like year long hot weather. Rent for a 1bedroom,1bh at brand new gated luxury complex is only $650 per month,w/ only a $350 deposit move-in .I don't expect to get apple for apple in Washington state. But is the cost of living reasonable near Seattle,& are there tons of night life & other things to do?
I like dinner clubs for live music, and bars which celebrate national idenity such as Irish and British bars. You see that here in florida quite a bit.I wonder if Seattle is that eclectic is various options despite the fact that there is less diversity? Is downtown seattle a safe place or is it filled with homeless people? How is the night life in places like Bothel and Renten and Sammamish? Are people approachable or do most people have their guard up?Whats the best 5 things about seattle area?
Let me know how it worked out...me, my wife and kids are looking to move there within 3 months..I am like you....terrified and unsure...but I visited there once and fell in love instantly!
I must say you do make Seattle sound interesting.Would like to give it a try.Have felt for years that I'm more of a West coast person.Have lived in a few states including California. My main concerns are cost of living & quality of life. You can live pretty well in many states on the middle and southern east coast states.$17 per hour wages provides the basics of life here. But in outter Seattle area that type wage might be starvation money. Go west go West but does that destination offer alot?
Hi! So me and my husband are thinking about moving to seattle next year when he graduates fron grad school... We are both in our 30's, no kids... Where do u think we should live (rent a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment
1. Very low crime rate. 2. friendly, very laid back but reserved is the stereotype. 3. pretty white (66% non-hispanic white) 4. Summers are very dry and sunny, drier than almost all the cities east of the west coast. Fall, winter and spring are typically cloudy/partly cloudy with occasional drizzle (total rainfall is actually less than NYC, Boston, Atlanta) and some areas close by in rain shadow get only 15 inches of rain (comparable to LA).
Is living 30 minutes outside Seattle VERY expensive for apartments? How expensive is petrol? Is the Seattle Freeze real? In moving away from florida I'm trying to decide between either the mountains of Asheville North Carolina(beautiful, like Hippieville which is very cool, imagine raves, several dinner clubs w life music, art galleries, kinda like San Fran but cheaper and southern) or to the outskirts of Seattle which I know has amazing night life,a REAL cosmopolitain city but with worse weather.
Ethnic acceptance is a very big deal in my opinion. It should be embraced and encouraged.Seattle does sound like it check that box in a very strong way especially compared to North Carolina.Only the cities of Asheville and Raleigh in NC are very progressive imo. North Carolina is chuck full of great Universities like WakeForest,Duke,Carolina, you name it, its there.I like that Seattle is well invested in the healthcare industry wich should equate to WA state having high quality medical care.
@karandipsohal Seattle is awesome I have lived here all my life and the weather is never extreme, almost always within anywhere from 40 degrese in the winter, to 80 sometimes in the summer. The hottest that I know about that its been here in Seattle was 113 degrese last summer. It is definately a wonderful place to live
Well, the Seattle area has a big tech and healthcare industry that is thriving. It also has a much lower unemployment rate than most parts of the country. While the cost of living is higher in Seattle itself, there are a lot more affordable options for you in surrounding areas, and although it's expensive in some places the pay for the same jobs in Seattle is also higher. It's magnitudes cheaper than San Francisco/Los Angeles. I'd say maybe check out real estate sites like redfin.com.
Just want to ask something more. Is there a high crime problem in areas like Bothel or neighboring towns? Are people open and friendly? How substantial is ethnic diversity? And does it rain all the time as people say and is there certain areas which get less rain? I'm not from Orlando florida (from new jersey)and would like to find a progressive place that is beautiful and green. Some where as layed back as north carolina but progressive in politics. Thank you!
I'm allways concern about moving to a new region of the country for fear that racism could be an issue. As an African American male there are some places where I could be discriminated against, via employment, dating or racial profiling. Is Seattle as progressive and embracing toward all ethnicities? I'm currently in central florida and hate the weather, job opportunities and lack of night life.Seattle area will be about 20% more expensive but if the place is amazing,it could be worth it.
