If you ever go back I recommend swimming with whale shark. It’s an expo of a life time. It cost me 91usd 10 years ago. I was so close to them and even accidentally kicked one that was swimming after me while I followed another. I saw one of them eating and tilt straight up in the water. They were swimming on the surface of the ocean right under the motor boat. It’s a really cool experience. I saw manta Ray too during the trip.

I wish I was there at the right time of year for that. I've heard it's the most amazing experience ever, but unfortunately we were there a few months before the season. Next time I go back I'm going to make sure its in whale shark season!

We paid 150 pesos per adult - around $8 USD. It was definitely worth the price.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them. Until I got there I didn't realize how close the cenotes actually were to the front gate.

Thank you for the walk thru because I'm going down there at the end of the month. You have really help me put into perspective what my trip is going to be like as well as many ideas to what we are going to do when we get there. I just did not want to spend time at the resort but I wanted to explore and your guides are helpful. thanx again

@@FirsthandGlobetrotting I forgot to ask but were all the buildings at the resort open or were there a few still closed due to the pandemic?
@FirsthandGlobetrotting
@FirsthandGlobetrotting 3 года назад
Right now I think there are 3 open but it has changed a lot depending on the number of reservations. Around Christmas and New Years nearly all of the hotels were open, other times only 2. It looks like more and more people are traveling so hopefully the hotel opens up more as more people book.

@@FirsthandGlobetrotting When were you there? The video's span a few months. When you were filming, it looked like there were people at each resort. Do you mean the restaurants were closed or the pools, bars, activity centers, etc? I don't see anyone wearing masks. Was there any covid compliant rules in place? We're going in July. I really love all your detailed descriptions. I made lots of notes! Thank you for taking the time during your vacation to share. :)

I was there pre-COVID but now nearly every hotel is back open and pretty much every restaurant and amenity is open, so hopefully when you go in July it will be fully running and you can enjoy everything.

Thanks so much for your informative videos. Do you recommend any fine-dinning restaurant at Playa Del Carmen? Not street food.
@FirsthandGlobetrotting
@FirsthandGlobetrotting 2 года назад
I didn't do any fine dining while I was there since I had enough nice meals at the resort, but I would say be careful of the restaurants on 5th Avenue. They are completely geared towards tourists so many of them give you fine dining prices without the fine dining quality. When I was looking, places that got good reviews and were a few streets north of 5th Avenue seemed like the best options (more likely that people who lived there would eat at those nice spots).

You mentioned that the street sellers try to sell you illegal things in Playa del Carmen, and that got my curiosity going. What types of things were you talking about that were illegal, but were still being sold?
@FirsthandGlobetrotting

They were offering pretty much everything - various types of drugs, women, knock-off goods, etc. Usually the first thing they will offer people as they walk by is drugs, since people are often on vacation and looking to party.

Which restaurants did you keep going back too or the ones you liked the most in Playa del Carmen?
@FirsthandGlobetrotting

In Playa, there were a bunch of taco stands across from the collectivo stand (Calle 2 and 15th Avenue) if you like street food. And there's a market at 6 Calle and 10th Avenue with some great little stalls (Camoras and another place with traditional Yucatecan food that I forget the name of).
