Pico's Barnaby Donohew takes us through the PicoScope Automotive Guided Test for decoding CANBus. From opening the Guided Test (GT874) within PicoScope, to connecting the scope to the vehicle, taking your capture, and then interrogating that capture.

very interesting on learning decoding like modbus rs485 rtu 😎 thanks

These videos are very helpful, i think you should swap a few sensors/parts to faulty ones. This way we can see a before and after for comparison.

Hi there,I’m still trying to get my head around how this can bus stuff works,although I’ve got the basic idea I can’t understand the point of decoding messages without any idea of what they actually mean,we have Pico scope at work but there is so much stuff to learn about it and as a busy tech I rarely get time to go into depth with it ....Great vid btw...Many Thanks

Did not realize you can do this (no pun intended). I am trying to find how I can use the decoding to identify the actual individual modules communicating- filter out only the BCM for example...

I feel like I may be missing something here. What version of picoscope are you running in this video? I do not see the CAN Bus Decoding under the CAN Bus menu. I also do not get the same web help as seen here with the guidance option. I am using the current version off the website.

No, you're not missing anything. We are working on getting the guided test in the software. We have released this video early with a large batch of CAN related material. In the meantime, our "Practical Pico: CAN bus diagnostics" will tell you how to set up your scope serial decoding. Hope that helps.

I have Question maybe the Pico team can help me with ? How can i use my Scope to Decoding a SENT Protocol Signal and know if the sensor i am testing that uses the The Single-Edge Nibble Transmission (SENT) is bad or good ? Say we have a air flow meter that uses The Single-Edge Nibble Transmission (SENT) and the car says ,has a bit of a flat spot . In the past we could for example test the Frequency out put against a known good air flow meter. But if we had a flat spot on a air meter that uses The Single-Edge Nibble Transmission (SENT) protocol how can i make the call and be 100 % sure that it is the Air flow meter using a Pico scope or any Scope ?

thanks for the video But how do you recognize ID and which computer it belongs to?
@JoeBob79569
@JoeBob79569 3 года назад
Probably a bit late now, but they show this in another video. Basically you have to record all the IDs in a capture, then unplug a module and record more data and see which IDs are missing. It looks like there are around 10 IDs for some modules. You pretty much have to do the same if you want to record events, like press the accelerator and see which ID changes. A very slow and tedious process, especially if you're trying to find a fault that's already there.
