And then he was with Holly before he even went with Eve. Michelle wanted him to stay with Holly.

I think Holly was the only grownup, who didn't constantly, and obviously, check up on her, but was there, for whatever Michelle needed. In spite of Ed's faults, and Maureen's differences with Holly, it was good for Holy and Michelle, both.

@schs1977 I couldn't agree with you more. The problem with some soaps is the fact they disregard the veteran actors in favor of younger characters who consume damn near 85% of screen time. At one time, GL was a damn good show.

Belkin Laster Yeah, like this and the following year, GL was beginning to "jump" the shark some. I'd say 87 was a pivotal (negative) year for GL. Once Reva drove over that Key West bridge, Maureen's death by car wreck and even a year or 2 with Susan Piper (great character--but did she really have to kill Hills off via exploding music box)? The change from the mid 80s to the late 80s was not a particularly smooth one, and I'm afraid the show was never able to tap into its terrific chemistry quite like the Golden Years of GL, which I consider to be 1979-1985/6), credit mainly to head writer Douglas Marland and this incredibly large ensemble cast, talented they were, and IMHO, GL was the best daytime drama for the first half of the 80s.

@@neworleansguy10 I have to disagree with you. Many soap critics and fans (including myself) see 1991-1992 as a golden age for Guiding Light. Even most of 1993 was great. I think the show would have still been perfect if it hadn't lost so many great actors in 1992 (Kimberly Simms, Beverly Mckinsey, Sherry Stringfield, and Jeff Phillips followed in 1993 with Beth Ehlers, Mark Derwin, Jordan Clarke. ) then you had Jill Farren Phelps dumb decision to kill Maureen off the show. Even though they recast many of the characters, it wasn't the same because it takes some time for an actor to settle into a role so the show lost all of the momentum it had been building. Also, all of the great longterm storylines were coming to an end in 1993 and the show just couldn't seem to get anything really good going. They had to recast Mindy twice after a bad recast and while Barbara Crampton was okay, she never really had the same spark in the role and the writers never really seemed to know what to do with her and Nick. To be fair, I didn't watch Guiding Light a lot during the Douglas Marland era but what I've seen on youtube I didn't like as much as I did the era I grew up on which was Pamela K. Long's writing that started in the 1986 or 1987 to 1990. I am a huge fan of Douglas Marland. I just enjoyed his work more on World Turns than I did on Guiding Light. I didn't really like the Reardons. They were similar to the Snyders on World Turns but I loved the Snyders. That's just my two cents about a show I really loved and miss.

@@hshawn00 Early 90s GL was top tier TV. Although (in my opinion), the best part of the show was the late 70s when the Dobsons were writing for the show (The Marital Rape story, Phillip's parental 4-some (with Jackie, Justin, Alan, and Elizabeth), Lucille Wexler's machinations among others). I thought Marland's era was good too, as I did like the Alan & Hope romance. She was arguably the only woman who brought out the very best in Alan. I never got to see the Carrie Todd story that came to an abrupt end when Jane Elliot was fired (Marland resigned in protest right after). I have mixed emotions about the Pam Long era as the Bauers were being phased out, one by one. I did watch those years for the Spauldings as Beverlee McKinsey was, without a doubt, a fantastic addition... then '86 came along and Bernau's Alan was ruthless than ever up until Bernau left the show. I do agree that the Snyders and Reardons are very similar... and it wouldn't be a surprise if Marland based the Reardons on himself as he did the Synder family.

@@neworleansguy10 , Reva died in 1990. We didn't get to see the eulogy, because of Operation Desert Shield (CBS News Special Report).

@@hshawn00 , right, losing all of them was a blow. Liz Kiefer did a great job as Blake, though, even from the first episode.

Ed admitted that he's an alcoholic and needed to get to an alcoholic meeting as soon as possible. Eve stayed with with Michelle. Maureen found out about Lillian and him. Ed told Eve. It only happened once.

Marcus Barnes I don't remember that Eve for some reason--at all. Guess that explains her being "Rita-esque". Lol. God, I loved Lenore Kasdorf!!

Eve wasn't on the show for long. I remember that she drugged Mindy and forced her into an accident. That happened after this and it was over Nick Spaulding. Eve was a nut case but her and Ed got engaged. However, she died from cancer before they got married.

true and the death of Roger Thorpe and when Vanesse hadsupposely left because of her brain tumer, that was the last straw, didn't know she came back in 97. after Vanessa left and Roger'sdeath that was the end of the True Guiding Light. and that theme song was iconic twhit the hornes in the 90's. then in th 2000's they tied to make the themes song so damn happy........Drama is not happy thats why it's called drama = soaps. Thats why they lost ratings, and people dieng and coming back became predictable.

Roger didn't officially die until 2004, but when they canned Zaslow in '97... it did leave a hole in the show. One of the few saving graces about that year was Annie Dutton having Springfield by the cojones (thank you, Cynthia Watros).

I didn't know Ed/Eve had started this early. They didn't kill Mo to put them together, did they?

They killed her for sweep rating Jill Farren Phillip's who was the producer at the time is a sadist and hates woman over a certain age. She is also known as the soap killer.

Oh, no. Ed and Eve were later. Not YEARS later, but, they certainly weren't romantically involved, before Maureen died.

Rumor has it, they killed Mo to free up the budget for another actor. I'll give you a hint: J.D.
