Hi! I'm the guy who posted in the forums that the two towers we could hardly make out in the trailer was the Wizard's Folly Tower! I knew it!!! Thanks for mentioning it.
Yes you just made me realise that i also kind of see him as a friend.. but of course wouldnt reach out. I know he has his own life. Which I respect. Keep being yourself WP
@@FoulPet not sure, I wasn't* able to watch the whole stream live however I believe you might be looking for the "a new friend" collection. Speak to the skyscale trainer in wizards ascent (southernmost area of the skyward reach map) or check your achievements panel :)
I sort of expected Zojia would have more to say to an asuran character considering shes technically your first mentor, but its the same as other races.
Somebody stated those things in the live-chat, but here to note again: Galrath's quest was no attribute quest, but it was unusually hard and it was the first quest implemented in the game.
Your assessment of people being mad about having no choice in dailies just meaning they don't like that they have to put effort in instead of picking the fastest ones is so spot on. I literally saw someone arguing that they hate the new daily system "because now we don't all have the same dailies anymore, so now I can't go do a quick JP where someone is there ready to port me"... They weren't being sarcastic either. The whole point was for you to do the JP in the first place like ffs.
With Zojja, trust me it makes a lot more sense when you are going through the wizard's tower mission and the achievement quest that opens up afterwards. You find a bunch of her journal scattered about (among a lot other stuff scattered, the kryptis made a bit of a mess of the place) and it really puts it into perspective, it does pay off.
1:08:57 I'm nostalgic for the pre searing music, but for me, the music piece that gives the the most gw1 nostalgia by far is still Tasca's demise. I still get chills down my spine when it plays, and I was very surprised (and rather delighted) that it played during the drokkar's forge area in the new map. I stopped and listened to it play the entire way.
WP, you talking about the vibe and feel being like 1 / being a bit more... Put together with Tyria, 100% getting that from the bit of the expansion I have played. I haven't gotten to Amnytas yet, just finished act 1, but something feels different. I have some minor gripes, but the vibes of the WORLD are top notch so far.
I think what’s hard for me to accept about Zojja’s running away from everything is more focused on why the commander and her other friends never asked the question where she was or how she’s doing lol. I know the IRL answer, but it doesn’t help the disconnect in game.
I just watched this now to get someone else's perspective. I've seen mostly positive reactions to the story, characters and lore of the expansion but my own feelings on those things are very different. I honestly felt that the entire intro to the expac felt confusing and bad. I still haven't beaten the expac story yet because nothing really interests me like the game has done before. The expac is probably doing things right since most people seem to enjoy it. Guess it's something about me rather than the game itself. I want to like it and I want to have fun playing GW2 again but as it is right now I just don't see it. After watching this video I see there is alot of lore to be excited about, but I still don't care about any of the characters or the plot. I could go into more detail and I'd love to discuss the details with someone but I'll stop here for now before this comment becomes too long. x)
What if the 3rd map isn't in the demons realm but the Isle of Janthir. It looks very reddish/brown on the map like the place where we met Cerus. Maybe Kryptis took over the isles and the astral ward sealed it off years ago. The new mursaat does talk about a gold lake in Janthir.
There were so many times I just sat there and listened to the music, even in combat I would just run around not attacking the enemies so I could listen to it for a while. 😂 Some definite nostalgia music from gw1 and some new, I loved all of it
Thanks for continuing to do your lore analyses. I still play GW1 but gave up on GW2 after path of fire, so it's great to be able to keep up with it all by watching your videos. I'm excited to see how the seer/mursaat storyline develops!
Leaky AC PSI: (Just because I had the same problem this summer) Pour a little white vinagre on the base of the radiator, there is a tray to collect the humidity there. Usually, if too much dust collects on the tray, it can clog the drain causing the leaks. Vinagre takes care of the clog on a cheap, non toxic way, just do it slowly so it doesn't overflow and you're golden 👍
The new dwarf intrigues me when he talks about ascension powers; it does make me wonder if Joko's resurrection abilities was similar. Also Ogden hinted at this was all part of some plan when Aurene died too - letting on he knew more about things as he often does. Lots of weird similar story themes to consider with the priory library in general; the fake ascension, dwarves, the abaddon statue (god of secrets) under a map of the All, the instance being Hidden Obscura (obscure?). Interesting...
Woahhhh! Did Aurene die? I’ve done all the story up to SotO, and have just reached second map last night before I went to sleep. I don’t recall her dying during post EOD updates? Didn’t she just leave with Caithe or whatever her name is? Unless I missed something? Those post EOD updates where quite painful to slog through and I played very little besides the story during the delve updates lol so maybe I missed something
@@Morris3720 Spoilers but it was in a Living Story if you don't have those. I think Season... 4? However if you play it now, there's no break inbetween the updates so if you DID do it, you may not have even noticed. lol
2:42:10 I dont mind the "voice in head"-story again. I was was sold immediately when in the first mission the demon on the platform approached us menacingly and talked down to us like we were prey. And I actually died when we got hunted down in the hall bc I thought I would make it to the next hiding spot. I got instantly killed.
Watching down the line and love the commentary - please don't refrian from expressing in videos. You're never boring. Quite the contrary, your speculation, criticism and thought process are entertaining to hear!!
For me, the toughest part of even doing the Villainy of Galrath was just getting through Verata and his goons, 'cause he was also sitting atop Kessex Peak right in the way of Galrath. Also of note is that, iirc, the quest text mentions that Galrath is specifically trying to get into the tower. My inference when I first saw him in this expansion was that Isgarren himself reanimated him as a minion, perhaps out of admiration of his tenacity or something.
@@_Banjo_I believe: “previous experience with mursaat was”, “Dire at best” -> Lazarus (the Dire). I picked up on it my second time through, but not sure if it was intentional.
so I think the clues in the house are hinting at very specific people. There's a character later that says they are an expert in remedies and there's another character that carries dwarven weapons (as in, the weapons we can craft in the POF ruins)
I am not sure if you have talked more about the Zojja arc since, it has been a couple months, but I'm just playing through and watching now. Zojja lost her mentor and the fight against Kralk and in response became angry and drew back into her own affairs, and it took a lot of her close friends reaching out repeatedly to bring her back in. Then she suffers serious bodily harm, and those same friends are very busy elsewhere. Eir is visiting Snaff, Rytlock is being our adventure buddy, Logan is following Queen Jennah around and taking over the Pact, Caithe is taking care of Aurene, and we are fighting the next threat to Tyria. Now speculating: It's also the first time she's been knocked out of action in the adventures we know of. The lying around waiting while her friends move on may have gotten to her and she withdrew and fell into a spiral from there. Overall I'm loving the expansion, most fun I've had since HoT. The current implementation of the wizards vault is really great, I'm sure it's changed since this video. Just the addition of quarterly and weekly goals alone has got me more interested in logging in again.
I have to say, I'm really happy with the map design of the first map so far (haven't gotten to the second one yet). Although there are not really new assets or art, the map itself is just made for skyscales, and it feels good traveling around with it. With the exception of Dragonfall, the Skyscale has felt like a cheat code so far, like it was not intended to use it on most maps. This time, it just feels natural, cause they built it with the skyscale in mind.
This past year I finally did my Legendary Defender of Ascalon title in Presearing and I spent a LOT of time in Wizard's Folly. Crazy to think that in some ways even that prepped for my excitement of this xpac!
I've not been on in over a year. Just found out about this new DLC. Glad to see WP is still doing his thing. Perhaps I can persuade my mate to return. He left due to HoT. Even though I told him how good PoF and EoD were.
Seriously, I watch these videos primarily in the hopes that I'll get to hear WP seriously geek out over some lore. I knew we were going to get a lot of that as I was going through this story.
Ive played for about 5 hours now and i have only finished act 1 of the story and i have explored about half of the new map only and i have never felt so excited and emersed in a GW2 expac. I hope the rest of it is just as good.
I’m enjoying the expansion so far but I’m really feeling the reused assets. It’s been really well done imo and it feels high quality, but my mind is constantly going “that’s a reskinned forged” “these are HoT/PoF/EoD assets” etc. it doesn’t feel as fresh as previous expansions despite feeling very different. I hope the iterate on the new systems. The dailies could be more interesting (I generally prefer parts of the game to stand up on its own and not need a daily system) and in looking forward to where relics go. My biggest problem with the daily system is not being able to roll PvE/PvP/WvW on the day as I decide to dip into these when logging in. The dailies themselves are a bit boring, but I guess Anet didn’t want to force gameplay too much. Weeklies and monthlies are a little more interesting. This makes me hopeful for guild systems overhauls. I think that is the single biggest thing they could do for communities and content accessibility for GW2s; instant content, pvp and WvW. In every mmo I’ve played guilds have got me into raids smoothly that would have been intimidating otherwise.
Appreciate the video and commentary ❤ Despite how GW2 voice-overs pronounce it, the word "Jotun" is pronounced "Yotun", the plural of Jotun is not Jotuns but Jotnar (you mention them at 02:01:5 if you wonder why i bring it up) Just in case you want to share some education among your viewers/listeners Any idea how i unlock a skyscale the "new and easy way" mentioned in the pre-release? Because i am seriously worried about my "limited time" skyscale will run out before i complete it IDK if the timer ticks down while im logged on with my main in other zones, or how long it is to begin with, and i dont have time to blitz the whole new expac in one day No one has done a video or any written guide (that i can find) about unlocking the Skyscale the new faster way, yet
the skyscale on soto map is permanent but only on soto maps according the th blogposts. as for acquisition - once you train first tier of flying mastery (who rescues whom) you unlock collection
@@MehrumesDagon Oh ok ty for that info, appreciate it So hmm thats a mixed piece of news to me When they announced "a new faster unlock" which was a good 4-6 weeks ago, i decided not to do the standard method and wait to do this one In 4-6 weeks i couldve unlocked it easily, in fact probably within 1 week, but because they stated what they stated i delayed it This may be my lack of understanding, but it feels a bit like they lied I havent even started EoD yet, or finished PoF, or LW 4 and 5, T-he only reason i bought this expac right now was to unlock the skyscale "easier and faster", otherwise i could have waited months before buying it, at least until i caught up with the rest of the content They just lost a lot of trust from me Wether or not thats my misunderstanding, i feel they chose those words in order to mislead EDIT - I forgot to say its also really good to know my use of Skyscale on SotO is not on a timer - i missed my Raptor trial because i got it unlocked by hitting level 10 one Friday afternoon, then went away for the weekend, when i came back my 12 hour timer had expeired This is why i was worried aobut Skyscale being temporary Think i will just leave SotO for now then and go back to my progression
I've been very pleasantly surprised so far, too. I was one of the people who was really worried about the asset reuse, because I thought EoD had too much of it already and this looked like it was going to be even more. I actually think they've done extremely well with it, much better than EoD. They've been clever, and even though there's a lot of reused tilesets, each place feels like a very novel use of that tileset which feels fresh despite the old assets. They've also done a lot more retexturing of old things, the lack thereof being one of my complaints about EoD's reuse. Also, we aren't there yet, but the wizard's tower and the second map are mind-bogglingly cool looking and totally different than anything we've seen before. Also, I'm not sure if you've noticed this yet WP, but this expansion for the first time has disconnected sections of swim-able water. That means in theory we could finally have underwater bases that you walk through for instance. Underwater expansion incoming? /tinfoil
1:43:50 - there is achievement to read two readables "when following zoijia" in Act 1 mastery, so unless there is some other similar sequence later on, there is an achievement for that.
That's for a later story mission, but I initially thought it was for this mission too. Very confusing, they should indicate that better in the achievement!
Dunno if WP will read, totally agree on the expac pulling you in, I was just grinding the story and the map JUST for the new cape. Didn’t care about the story the map anything just getting that cape. Slowly it started to pull me in, the map is amazing, the lore is good and the story was honestly good too.. I kept wanting to do the next episode to see where it lead. Started saying I don’t trust this person, what’s going on here I want to know more, I wanted to know more about the seers and then you get that option to learn more… etc. Liked it a lot.
I am late on this expac but I finished the first act today and holy shit what a comebafk!! I was so disappointed in EoD storywise, i did not care at all for all the cyberpunk jade bullshit but THIS is what i want!! This feels so far like a Guild Wars 1 campaign story wise dsmn near, the tone is so good and the demon designs and the edginess is so needed. I havent been this excited for GW2 story since Path of Fire.
It was a bit depressing hearing about the lack of passion in the interim between expansions, but I’m glad to hear your excitement now. I’d probably not be playing this game still after 10 years if it wasn’t for WP
I haven't played the story myself, and the only story I've seen is from WP's channel and reading the story journals on Wiki. So maybe I'll change my mind after playing this myself, but from what I've read, I've got to say I'm really not into the story they wrote for Zojja. It's basically that she suffered trauma and wanted to left everything behind, and so she joined the Astral Ward when they find her. And now she apparently cares very deeply about this new found family, so when incidents happen later (to avoid spoilers) she almost broke down, and the commander has this heart-to-heart talk with her. To sum up, Zojja's story is about being depressed and saved and finding new friends and family, and about cutting herself away from all her past. Nothing lore related (from what I read) and nothing of other importance (from what I read). So the implication (I think?) is that we should care about Zojja despite her being a bad-tempered person in the story before and being away from the story for so long. Otherwise, I don't see why we would care about anything she's going through. But really, I don't see WHY we would care about her. Did people ask for her to return because they actually like her, or because she's just been away for too long? I'm acurious here. Is there really someone who likes Zojja and feel for her when the incidents happen? I for one feel nothing but bored when reading this part of Zojja finding her path after incidents happened. With that all said, I haven't played the story myself, so maybe the implementation is good enough to support it. From what I've seen, the lore is good and the map is beautiful, but character emotions? Meh.
51:34 I'll make a counter point to the ff14 roulette here: If you've done alliance roulette, you''ll notice that VERY frequently you'll get either labyrinth of the ancients or srycus tower. That is people gaming the system by removing their gear so their item level is low enough they won''t get the harder ones. This happens with normal raid roulette as well. It is true you don't have choice, but as I've shown from that example even when you don't have choice people will still take the easiest route available if they can affect it somehow. And there are people who instant leave when you get roulette dungeons/raids they don't like, so it's not sunshine and daises there either. The main reason people don't complain in general in FF14 is because the roulette are all pve roulettes, with the exception of that one pvp battleground one (which has a fixed map per week, actually, it will remain the same pvp map until the next week where it rotates to a different one), and the rewards are just tomestones which have plenty of alternate ways to obtain. The wizard's vault has different dailies in different game modes, and from what I've experienced in gw2, people really loathe being forced into the game modes they don't want to be in (be it pvp, wvw or pve), and the new currency is tied to it whereas in ff14 you can get tomestones from non daily related activities.
Could it be that, by turning around and looking in the actual direction Mabon is looking in that dialog, one might see the tower on the horizon that Mabon sees. The on we saw in GW1 and that Tyrians dubbed Wizards Folley. The Beacon of Ages. Right after the Horizon line Mabon tells us the Tyrians name. And the actual Wizards Tower is what we've seen over Garrenhoff the whole time. The Wizards Tower WP has yet to unlock on the map and can not see. Maybe 🤔
wait, I just did the attribute point quests for a prophecies char in gw1 recently and that's not one of them. One of them is in the crystal desert and the other one is in the southern shiverpeaks. And they're both related with ascension
I think theres some solid asuran ego/pride in regards to zoijja just going full hermit rather than reaching out to friends, the only person i could see her confiding in is caithe
I think they added that sound effect on tengu voices and/or intensified it with EoD. I remember years ago now one of the sound people mentioned that they add sounds like jowly sounds when Charr talk, and ever since, it seems like they added/turned that up on all new non-human voices. To the point that I think they went a little too far with it. As for the tengu voice/accent changing after EoD, my guess is that either they wanted to give them more character, or hopefully it's a regional thing. Like that voice we're used to is more of the Northern/Tyrian tengu voices, vs the newer one being more of the Canthan tengu voice.
1:32:15 This part made me laugh "the gameplay here is weird because it lingers too long" meanwhile WP is the most determined person I've ever seen trying to stay alive and make it take as long as possible when you're clearly not meant to win or survive, even using a signet proc to get even more running and dodging capability lol. "Here lemme see if I can proc a bigger heal by doing this instead to make it linger more" 😂
Not sure how its spelt ingame, but The Dagdha is a Celtic god, a sort of Celtic version of Odin Weird they made it a female, since its Dagdha because its a father figure (Dadda, Daddy) Then again sometimes game devs just steal a name from ancient religious lore and dont care about its actual origin or meaning (if you havent guessed by now, form this and my other comments recently, yes i study ancient lore and am Neo-Pagan)
I think the Zoja explanation was just fine. You can’t say just bc this person handled this situation this way that the next person would handle it exactly that way. Maybe it had to do with what race they were even as to how they would handle the effects of the pods. I find this perfectly plausible as to why she was away. Traumatic things change people and affect people in different ways.
2:09:07 I'd like to imagine that whichever anet dev(s) who made that bit about the wizards folly and hearing you geek out about it here would be extremely happy. 2:16:41 I don't know why he refers aurene as our "liege" - doubly weird if you're a human because Jenna IS your actual liege.
Speaking from experience; people do get depressed and wander off, I did it, literally sold my house and stood at the side of the road with my thumb out to see where the world would take me, maybe you never got depressed that much ? Count yourself lucky, it's not a good place.
1:24:54 Not to whine or anything, but they use Yao's VA for so many generic unnamed NPCs - and the voice actor never ever changes the tone or timber his voice - that it feels fucking weird like he's all over the entire planet. At least taimi's VA (who is also used for many generic npc voices) actually alters her tone and pitch for different NPCs. 1:53:09 As someone who has used flying mounts in other MMOs before the skyscale was added in gw2 (namely WoW and FF14, where they are basically nothing more than free form 3D movement) it does take a while to get used to the fact that the skyscale loses height as your bar drains and the wall cling (which I still find extremely annoying). The 2 MMOs I've mentioned have no such restrictions - you can fly as high as you feel like - so it will take new players time to get used to it. 2:04:49 That pun there, when I did this story bit, made me smile.
Hmm, I feel like the in-game sound is somehow too low? I turned the sound high to listen to the dialogue in-game, but then WP's voice gets very loud and I have to turn the sound down again.
"Isgarren's like the big dick" - WP haha , i love your story reading, i don't want to rush through and not read everything, but there's so many books around, and i don't appreciate the stakes as much with whats going on
I was expecting a playthrough but this seems to be a commentary. It is possible to add time-stamps of what part in the storyline is happening when? Thanks!
just watched the official trailer today, it mentioned that theres a new acquisition for skyscale mount, does that mean its easier and less grindy to obtain skyscale in the new expansion? I do have skyscale yet though :)
@ 55:00, I really have mixed feelings about the recurring "let's make fun of old people" approach to Rytlock. Once was funny... We don't need to repeat it.
Unlike you I honestly loathe the hammer on ele. My personal favourite in open world is still sword/focus on weaver. Its not the best damage, no, but I like the amount of break bar damage it can do and swirling winds to prevent ranged damage so I can avoid combat and mount is what I really like, plus the usual perks of having sword. Unfortunately the pack relic doesn't do what the old 6 rune set bonus for pack runes does anymore - in fact its pretty useless for open world, so I run the cavalier relic for the time being in open world to give myself boons on mount engage. Also just curious but are you going to cover baldur's gate 3? Probably not so soon after soto's release but given the rather massive hype around that game currently and it seems like a game right up your alley, it seems like it would be interesting to see you go through it. You should do a balance with boots, with the elite spec weapons unlocked for all specs as well as relics, now would be a pretty good time.
That first fight against Cerus in the opening game sequence, I absolutely hate when they "Cheat" and force us into a down state. It feels more like Devs getting Jollys out of burning ants then a game mechanic. I'd rather they make us use skills we have and should know to use. Especially in this where the objective is simply to show us how easily he can off us, so we need to run and port out. They could have simply had us look for a glow on the adjacent wall, use dodge and movement skills and Jump off the platform into a portal. IMO
I always get confused for half a second watching your playthroughs cus I am like, "who is that talking I don't see another character" just to remind myself yet again- you are not a sylvari male, and that is your toon. haha.
Done 2 acts, gotta say its refreshing afer eod cringefest as far as story goes. New dailies need some work. Maps are beautiful, but the 2nd one framedrops mad. Metas fun. Strikes... Not too easy, but mostly recycled mechanics, especially 2nd one
Disappointed for sure. There's a major bug in part 3 of the story. Breaks the story so that you can't continue. Can't progress to open the other maps, can't participate in the meta. Support said they were hot-patching it a few hrs ago, it didn't work. Seems they are having major issues fixing it...
"Just fan service, just copy/paste" is what the cynical grumpy guy I am said to himself when I saw a playthrough on Twitch. I'll watch yours to try to get another vibe, because at the moment, I am just disgusted. Thanks in advance for all "fanboyism" which could give me enough incentive to continue because I really like GW2.
I wonder if so few people coment this format video when it is old, becouse it is complete chaos and there is lot of coments from time it was released that probably discused everything already. I really wish i could skip all the non story ranting especialy parts i really disagree with presended logic. Like the daily system discusion here where WPs optimism goes directly agians my realism. Well it is great to get lot free rewards for playing less gw2 thanks to the new system but i have no reason to go play pvp/wvw every day like i had with the old system. But it is great that gw2 continues it is core theam change only for the change itself (anyone has any idea why WP complined about this core part of gw2 in his legendary no skill challenge streams serie?)
2:32:57 This is a big L take on Zojja... It's easy to see that the pressure of Destiny's edge, being a hero, etc etc without the mental health support that we've seen no evidence of in Tyria could easily drive someone to depression
In the end I think ANet made a mistake using the word "depression". Remember the cut scene where Trahearne's mind was being torn, ripped, shredded, like a simple piece of thin paper. Logan and Zojja probably lived the same thing. This is not depression. Mental torture is "a bit" stronger than a depression. She's a hero after all. But the opponent was the dragon's embodiment of spirit manipulation. A small chapter or a cut scene with them emerging and Zojja quite mentally destroyed, going to Rata Sum to say she let her duties and rank because she was going crazy and needed time to recover would have been welcomed IMHO. (a better and more emotional scene than Aurene's dialog about going to sleep for me)
25:00 Honestly, I hope they do an expac which Aurene is corrupted and the whole expat will be about dealing to the emotional turmoil of choosing between saving the world and killing the dragon that was your friend. I think there was a lot of gaps in the events between episodes and emotional beats that they have missed because of trying to fill out all the living world seasons, especially the ones at the end of season 4. Something that just really explores our relationship with Aurene, to give the character the justice it deserves.
I kinda want to come back to this game as my off season game with WoW but far out I feel so far behind especially POF map completion let alone EoD LET ALONE the new Soto =(
@KillchainGames I envy you! Having all that content to play through was the most fun I’ve had in an MMO ever. I played at launch for 2 weeks, and then stopped mostly because I didn’t have time due to friends work girlfriend, ect. Came back like 6months after EOD came out I believe and played through base game on the Ranger I had made at launch. It was fun, then I saw Turtle mounts and Skyscale and was awestruck so I bought all the expansions and played them through in order. Every area I went to was extremely populated by other players that I never would have known how old some content was. It was the only game I played until a month before The post EOD What Lies beneath updates came out. I logged in for the story on those updates and it was bad. I thought GW2 was done for. With SoTo release I’ve started back up again and so far it has been super fucking fun. I got to second map last night and am gonna play again today. But the story and maps I’ve played so far were breathtaking. Very excited to see what this Amnytus map will be like. And see where the story goes from the first half. But enjoy playing through all the content you haven’t! It’ll still be very populated and you are in the best part of getting back into GW2 and you just don’t know it yet!!
Nah, you'll be able to catch up in one week or so. I bought the 3 exps on a black Friday sale So yeah I stopped being a f2p. By the first week of December, all the content was successfully done on my main character. And no, in order to achieve that, I didn't turn into a hikikomori.
