The most recent Heart of Thorns patch introduced a lot of awesome story, today I want to talk about an apparently fairly small part of the patch that actually could be setting up some clear things for the future.

I think Mordremoth WAS a dragon once. His body is every vine and root of the jungle and what is left of his head, his "mouth", we fight. His brain is even visible in the HoT story. Magic corruption physically changes you (bloodstone visage anyone?) and when Mordremoth was corrupted he changed, splitting his body apart into root and vine and becoming one with the jungle to better tap and feed on the leylines like tree roots would on water. Zhaitan on the other hand made himself bigger and more imposing by becoming a necromantic flesh golem. By adding to his body using the bodies of other loyal dead dragons. Just look at him. He's made up of at least another hundred Tequatls. Kralkatorrik is composed of crystal, the purest form of solid magic. I feel that it is heavily suggested that the EDs were once just normal dragon types, only very magically strong who began absorbing the magic of Tyria for a probably good reason...but then they became corrupted. What might Mordremoth have looked like once before the corruption? Look to Guild Wars 1 Moss Dragons. So why dragons, as you asked? Well there is another aspect in dragons in all of the lore. Yes they are greedy and that plays in here. But they are nearly always cast as being beings of high magic. Creatures more tapped into magic than we ever could be. They are also almost always elementally aligned. Perhaps thousands of years before the Mursaat, Forgottten, Seer, Dwarf, Jotun, and friends there was another set of highly advanced races and one of them was dragon kind. Perhaps the world faced a great threat, as it often does, (maybe the same threat that brought down the old human home-world eventually) an over abundance and swelling of magic. The strongest and wisest among their race, the elders of their race perhaps....were called upon to gather that magic in order to save everyone. Only...magic corrupts. And, WP, there was another point in Tyria's history in which an overabundance of magic corrupted. A point that is vital to the existence of this series. When Abaddon gave the magic of the bloodstone to humanity. It resulted in vast wars. It wasn't explicitly stated then that it drove people mad. But it was certainly a case of power corrupting. So much so that King Doric pleaded to the gods in Arah to fix it.

This also explains instantly WHY we need the elder dragon cycle! If they dont cleanse the world of magic from time to time, then slowly the rising magic would drive all the creatures on the world into Magic-madness! They would destroy themselves and the world... and then? after almost all are dead? The few survivors would continue to consume magic until there isnt any left, forcing them into hibernation and creating the Elder dragon cycle anew. so we Do need this cycle, or it will simply recreate itself.
@deusvermiculus1072

well the flame legion isnt necessary evil. they are traditionalists. Seeing their old way of life as superior to the ways its run now and have split off and antagonized the rest off charr society (and by extension their allies) by whom they feel betrayed! but youre right. especially with the Jotun! remember: THEY were once one of the dominant races (like humans/charr/asura/sylvari and norn are now) back in the last rising of the elder dragons! So we can say that, when their society collapsed, they were at an all time high in terms of magic flowing through them! This also led to their downfall afterwards, since the now primitive and uneducated tribes have lots their magic, but retained the grudges and the magically warped way of life! Concentrating on being the strongest of all, subjugating and killing your own people MIGHT be possible when you already HAVE a lot of wisdom, a functioning social system and Cities in which you can live! It still destroyed them, but slowly. But now, since they have been reduced to basically cave dwelling barbarians, this way of thinking prevents them from ever making progress again! dooming them to a fate similar to the grawl. They will be around for a LONG time to come, but never again reach any form of civilization (unless a particularly strong warlord actually manages to unify them ALL and then tries to make his RACE and not only himself stronger)

Taimi is going down a dangerous route with her experimenting and when we take the extractor under her instructions, it seems totally safe. When you start to think about it, I love the meta joke about farming this map for unbound magic is essentially showing the player character going mad and needing the magic (I can stop whenever i want honest). You also hear players scream on the map as a nice added bonus

This could very well tie into the story of the Exodus. Because what Abbadon did, was that he gave magic to the humans, which resulted in wars for even "more power". The same theme. And then, before the gods left, they sealed away magic. But what magic? And why did they leave? Was leaving Tyria just another form of taking magical energy from the planet, or did they seal away their own power and left, so that they wouldn't be corrupted by the rising levels of magic that ultimately woke up the elder dragons as well? Also, what if you _can_ resist the corruption if you're just pure and noble enough? Couldn't it be that what distinguishes the gods from the elder dragons?
@yoinkiez
@yoinkiez 8 лет назад
The Gods left because Tyria (the planet, not the continent) wasn't "ready" for them, and felt their presence was unnecessary after the events in GW1. However, they are still *around* or at least listen to their followers/worshippers prayers. Hence the cultural skills humans have pertaining to each.
@esperjace6677

I like your theories, it always adds more depth in the lore of this game. I came back to the gw1 manuscripts and one thing is stated " The gods smashed the stones into five parts - four equal but opposing stones of magic and one keystone...Each of the first four stones was the embodiment of a specific school of magic: preservation, destruction, aggression and denial " I like to believe that magic locked by the gods is not pure magic but a magic modified by the gods. So the bloodstone madness could happens because that specific bloodstone is the bloodstone of agression. During the explosion people couldn't handle that much magic from the agression attribute and went mad. Lazarus is one of those beeing, close to a god that could absorb and control that magic flow.

When WP asked why the human gods did not become complete douchbags, all I thought about was this quote from The Dark Knight: you either die a hero, or live long enough to watch yourself become the villain. Time, changes things, people and gods alike.

with the whole story of the bloodstone growing after Zhaitans and Mordremoths death I thought of one line of Scarlet: "Tyria needs me" Of course she was corrupted by Mordremoth, but what if she also realised, that there was no replacement for Zhaitan and there needed to be some being to absorb all the free magic, so she awakened another dragon? wouldn't that kinda make perfect sense?

@erinravenseeker413
@erinravenseeker413 7 лет назад
Actually, I'm not sure if this has been covered before but this would make sense in a connection to Scarlet and Aerin. Specifically, Omadd's machine pumped magic into Scarlet, and she then became a sort of dragon minion, being able to communicate somehow with Mordremoth because Mordremoth was kind of telepathic. Also, travelling with the Zephyrites has to mean a lot of raw exposure to magic, so Aerin would have a lot of magic within him and then be able to connect with Mordremoth in a similar way, although not to the extent Scarlet would've. Also, odd thought, but a while ago you talked about the Sceptre of Orr and how it allowed the wielder to command the spirit realm, or spirits and energy, and I thought; we were spoken to by Glint at the end of the Ring of Fire missions, where the sceptre mysteriously disappeared in some blue energy and somehow Livia got it later. There's the possibility that was Glint, and if it was, could Glint have taken or copied part of the sceptre's power at that time? And if so, could Glint still be alive in some form after using the sceptre's power?

Fantastic vid bro, just wanted to also bring up Gaheron Baelfire trying to do something similar in CoF! Also, another chicken or the egg argument: If the dragons can be replaced, what if the human gods(or their predecessors) are not predated by the dragons, but have visited before, and could have helped usurp them before? It flipflopped over to the dragons being older in GW2, there isn't really anything to stop them from flipflopping back with some new revelation.

Perhaps the corrupting aspect of magic is the reason the gods left? They've seen what happened to the dragons and they want to keep their sanity, so they left to resist the temptation to take in all the magic that is floating around and thus not get corrupted.
@gunslingerspartan
@gunslingerspartan 8 лет назад
what if the gods did get bloodstone sickness? after all, they did disappear, only for the dragons to wake up parhaps the bloodstone was an attempt to trap the magic in an inanimate object, thus delaying the magic madness or maybe it's a scale, the gods being their most sensible whilst having the smallest amount of power, but growing more and more drunk on mana the more of it they drink up from the environment this makes some sense to me because the guild wars (the events prior to GW1, ending with the formation of the bloodstone) was a time when the races of tyria where destroying tyria and each other with the magic in the air, before the gods stepped up and took the power away from the mortals, storing it in the bloodstone perhaps they managed to slow the cycle, removing the madness from the mortals before drinking in more of the energy and going all "bring me your artefacts and ley energy, before I come and get them anyway"

When you think about it, the bloodstones are almost like artificial elder dragons since they act somewhat like them, draining and releasing magic and likewise bloodstone addicts are like artificial dragon minions as you've mentioned, just some thoughts to gnaw on xD

White Mantle and Pact soldiers are addicted to sniffing bloodstone dust and the dragons are just magic junkies. The Forgotten put Glint into rehab. And the worst part is, the players are addicted too, flying through Bloodstone Fen and competing with the locals to get as much unbound magic as they can.

There's a good possibility Lazarus's "virtuous pursuit" is bringing other Musaat from the mists. Add to that the idea that Lazarus could just be a flunky in the grand scheme of things - because just who were the Mursaat who hid in the mists? Oh and WP, you were talking about mist walkers - don't forget the norn are mist walkers too. See the norn racial story "A Pup's Illness" to its conclusion if you forgot.

As a RPer I've actually been VERY excited by this patch, the lore surrounding magic and it's effects on people in high intensities has always interested me. One thing that really bugs me about this patch: People don't seem to GET that people are being driven insane, -by magic-. People will just shrug it off say "Tyria is a world of magic, we'll be fine as it's residents". I even was RPing with an excursion into bloodstone fen itself, and people were doing things that seem absolutely insane given the context...such as say, getting anywhere close to ley-line magic...in the middle of the storm in the fen... I really hope Arenanet continues to explore this idea, and even does more explicit things with it. I'd love to see people who RP picking up bloodstone shards, or even going near high-magic areas, to realize that there IS repercussions for things like this.

I hope they assess the fact that Rytlock is channeling Glint. Her character could be somewhat returning through him. This could put Rytlock in an important place in Glint's legacy, as well as pit Rytlock and Lazarus against one another. I just realised, revenants are mist walkers... Maybe Rytlock will become a god! Okay that's just a crazy thought but I figured I'd throw it out there. Wait a minute, I've previously wondered if Rytlock might score the killing blow on Kralkatorick. Perhaps gaining a lot of power like this could be how he does it, and if Snaff is involved, it might be Rytlock and Glint vs Kralkatorick and Snaff.

I'm kind of more curious where they are going with intelligent beings "spirits". The Foefire, this explosion, as well as the bloodstone itself (and I presume stuff in the raid) show that large exposure to magic causes the spirits of beings to linger on the mortal plane, since I presume a solution to this would help Rytlok's goal of getting rid of the Ascalon spirits, as well as showing that it was due to magic that made them stay, not simply a specific magic from a sword.

This is a really cool idea! Could it be that before these things became Elder Dragons, magic was rampant and everyone was part insane? Does this also mean that no living creature can be our Elder Dragon friend? IS that why the gods left? Felt themselves going insane? Many cool questions arise. The obvious solution would be to make inanimate devices that can't go insane - ahem, bloodstones. Too simple of a solution but would make for really cool lore for a theoretical future world in 10,000 years: "These red things? Well.... people say they're atmospheric regulators, or something, and you shouldn't mess with them."

I really do like these theories. Frankly, I'm hoping you're right that something takes a seriously dark turn later on. I was worried that, with the inclusion of Glint's egg, the focus would be "replacing" the Elder Dragons with "nice" variants. But damn, if the world falls to chaos, if something worse than the Elder Dragons arrives, or something truly irreversible happens, I'm happy.

I kind of hope Lazarus isn't trying to help us, but he shouldn't just be a bad person because he's bad. He has an awesome source of motivation. Glint and the Flameseekers destroyed his entire race. All of his friends and family. He would want revenge. But who would he target for that? Glint and the Flameseekers are dead. He might go after the egg, but the egg never harmed him so it might not be so personal for him. Is there anyone left on Tyria for Lazarus to take his revenge on?

Humanity. A few humans destroyed his race, so a single Mursaat wiping out the human race may be considered a fair trade in his eyes. Through that he probably wouldn't bother with the Charr or Sylvari or Asura or Norn unless they got in the way. Hmm, I wonder if he may try to get allies from the Charr Separatists who are against the peace treaty...

As always, LOVE your vids Wp...but I think you missed an interesting point in this. Tami said she ran ley line energy through the Chak organ an it came out the other side changed in a way that was too small for her to detect. Doesn't it seem probably that we will discover that was has changed is that the corrupting element that is in magic has been removed? I believe the chak are a natural (or perhaps engienered by someone like the forgotten) means of filtering and cleansing magic. On a side note....I haven't seen anyone talk about the golem parts in the dragon lab of Ep. 1. Have noticed them? they are in the corner of the landing you get on when you go back to listen in on the conversations. They aren't marked in anyway, but when you get close to them you get an interraction promt which then tells you it is a pile of golem parts and says something about a tiny asura being up to something....thought it odd that no one would mention the only reference to Scruffy 2.0 in the story. thanks :)

So. Little theorycrafting idea here about cleansing dragon minions like the forgotten did. They were only able to cleanse Glint, right? So what if we as the player character think that we can cleanse an entire dragon? We could try to cleanse Primordus, maybe even see some sanity in his eyes for a second, but our attempts would fall short and he would only become more enraged? What I'm getting at here is what's the drawback to trying to cleanse dragons?
@JorikPar
@JorikPar 8 лет назад
This theory leaves a lot of questions open ... on the one hand dragons and consuming magic seems to be fundamental to tyria. On the other hand we want to cleanse them to stop it? And the gods wanted that too by sealing away that magic? And why are the dragons so unique (fire, ice, crystal ...). To me that doesn't quite fit with the "random ancient powerful beings that happened to consume a lot of magic and got mad" idea ... not sure where this is going yet.

hey WP so after i finished this amazing video i was thinking, what if magic corrupts only after a long time, the idea being that zithan and other non telepathic dragons are so old that they've lost the ability to use telepathy, however mordremoth is younger than the others so the magic hasn't corrupted him fully so he still has his telepathy but he is corrupted enough to be super greedy for magic and feel no empathy for the races. kinda like the dragon champion: the dragonspawn can use telepathy but also has no sympathy for the races. the idea being that glint was young enough while she was cleansed so she kept her telepathy and was not overcome with the greed for magic. and finally the main idea being that abbadon was older than the other gods so he got corrupted by magic before the others did and thus "became evil" and gave magic to the margonites and fought the other gods. this might be supported because i remember reading somewhere that it took the combined strength of all the other gods to trap abbadon, meaning that abbadon was older and stronger and thus had probably absorbed more magic over his lifetime than the other gods had, which led to him becoming evil earlier than the other gods. now my actual main idea is that glint's legacy is about giving the baby dragon all the magic of the elder dragons and keep it around as a friend until it goes crazy by bloodstone corruption (which might take millions of eons) this also might explain why lazaurs has not gone insane yet because he has only just absorbed the magic from the bloodstone. but this theory cant explain why dragon minions and those affected by the explosion go insane right after being corrupted, maybe its because each race has a certain threshold for magic before being turned insane by it (murssart having an extremely high threshold while humans have a very low one) which also explains why kormir needed a "gift from the gods" in order to usurp abbadon because if anybody else did it they would go insane from all the power. well thats all i have to say but there are probably tons of mistakes in there so if anybody needs a clarification just ask me. here's a video that made me laugh: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DxmkAoLC6_4.html

That's not necessarily true at all. "The players want to fight (Kralky), therefore Kralky just attacked LA" is bad writing. Story-wise, we don't know what ANET plans to do with Prime being active, but it could be quite good. LORE-wise, Primordius WOULD get more active after multiple magical events. The "bad writing" would have been if the episode ended after "A crisis - but hopefully not a world-ending crisis! Hum-dum-de-durr"

O: I just had an idea based on what u said about elder dragon being more of a title than a race. If that is so then I think I know an other likely candidate for the title : the Pale Tree. this is based on the fact that Mordremoth wasn't just the Elder Dragon of mind but that it was also a vast consciousness connecting all its minions and the jungle as 1 giant entity. That sound a lot like the dream. We know for sure now that Sylvari are connected to Mordremath but I think the interesting question is how? In the Living world season 2 the firstborn says :"We come from the Jungle Dragon, we belong to it, we are meant to serve it" . this could either mean that the Sylvari are simple minions and the pale tree is just a minion spawner or it could mean that the Pale tree is more of an offshoot of Mordremoth. Maybe Mordremoth itself started off as a Pale tree, a collective consciousness but where the tree knew love and grew on the teachings of Ventari, Mordremoths seed was grew on soil stained by war. Maybe the only reason the pale tree isn't simply Mordremoth is because she was separated from it (just like Malyck was from his tree) when her seed was found and planted by Ronan. Maybe the Pale Tree and the dream ARE just a separated and independent part of Mordremoth's mind. I Imagine that Mordremoth started out as a being like the Pale Tree and the Dream, that it spread and grew by adding the minds and magic of others to its consciousness and by spreading its roots and offshoots further along the lay-lines until it could be eventually be considered an elder dragon. As it grew (and maybe as it was corrupted) It learned of the necessity of its existence for the balance of the world. Mordremoth doesn't kill, it absorbs, that is it being merciful. I imagine Mordremoth being one of the "newer" Older Dragons, maybe it was formed in the time when the Mursaat, Seeres, forgotten, Giants and Jotun were still alive only 10000 years ago. After it went dormant Ronan found one of its seeds and separated it from Mordremoth unknowingly creating a the pale tree and a second dream and a race of "free" Sylvari. This means the Pale tree is a surviving part of Mordremoth and a potential new and maybe more benevolent Elder Dragon.

Woooow super interesting, makes my mind boiling right now trying to figure stuff as well. The Elder dragons that could have been normal dragons at a time... Made me get an idea: what if dragons were a race populating old Tyria? Way before the former races, waaaaay before the great giants,... A dominating race at a time when Tyria was starting to build more and more life diversity. Let's suppose at this time magic started to become a thing and to grow bigger and bigger. This major race would then have started to compete in their greed to gather all that magic, killing each other and minor races creating a massive extinction episode on Tyria, with only 6 dragons left (or perhaps more, Tyria's big - side note: I never liked the idea that only 6 dragons populate Tyria, all located where we are, but it seems to be the direction GW plot is taking) containing all that magic before going to sleep. That could have been what brought to Tyria these big mighty Elder dragons, and who knows how many cycles that could have happened then before the 2 last we know about - the current one, and the one that has lived the Forgotten, Mursaat, Dwarves, Seers and Jotuns. Also, maybe this penultimate awakening was the 1st one happening in a Tyria that has had enough time to build up complex intelligent forms of life, enough to study and understand these Elder dragons, to prepare their next awakening (current): this understanding would have brought then the necessity to create the Seers original bloodstone - an inert object to contain the magic, without any will, without that risky potential of corrupted acting that living things can have (like Elder dragons). To go further.... Maybe magic didn't start to be a thing with the dragons dominating Tyria... But was released after dragons fought for survival previous magical entities that were their own mighty and destructive "Elder dragons" threatening their existence... The possibilities are endless, where does magic come from in the first place? Something else, can the Pale Tree be another possible magic container as Glint's egg? Could it have tried to absorb a bit of Zhaitan magic after he died, and the attack from Mordremoth in season 2 would have not only been explained by the fact that it is supposed to be a rebel Mordry's champion, but also caused by Mordremoth trying to get Zhaitan's magic leftovers? A last question I'm asking myself (a bit unrelated that will wait for GW2 development): are the devs taking the marvel infinity gems as a source of inspiration for the dragons powers? (Mordremoth for the mind stone, Zhaitan for the soul stone perhaps,... I'd imagine Primordius being inspired by the power stone, and maybe Kralkatorrik having some weird aspect related to the reality stone - which leaves Bubble and Jormag for time and space stones). GAAAAHHH love this game....

Hey WP, I recently replayed the War in Kryta content in Guild Wars 1 and couldn't help but be bothered again by the fact we still don't have a clue what on earth happened to Evennia after her disappearance in Old Ascalon. Do you think Season 3 might finally shed some light on this continuing mistery now that White Mantle have returned to the spotlight or do you expect the developers to have given up on Evennia altogether? I know they originally intended to do some Guild Wars Beyond content with Evennia that had nothing to do with the War in Kryta anymore, but now seems about as good a time as ever to give us an answer. If you don't believe we'll ever see her fate revealed in the story at any point, do you think the devs might finally just reveal what they had planned for her originally?

I don't think that the dragons are mad, I rather think they are quite sane. I think that the elder dragons use themselves in a similar fashion to how you suggested that the gods used the bloodstone. they knew that if that magic was free out in the world it would drive everyone insane (maybe that's what happened to their race in ancient times). you mentioned that mordremoth is telepathic and should sympathize with the lesser species like glint did but maybe he chooses to ignore it because he knows that he is doing what's best for the world. mordremoths final words doesn't sound like those of a power mad monster. glint did sympathize with the lesser species but she might not know what the elder dragons know of a world wild with magic. maybe the elder dragons turned themselves or pretend to be mindless monsters either to try to escape the guilt of the massacres they cause or to protect themselves from the magic madness. just my two cents.

Engineer is the least magic using profession. In fact, they don't seem to use any. Most if not all their skills are based around inventions and elixirs. +WoodenPotatoes Since you mentioned in this video that the gods did seal magic away in the Bloodstones, perhaps you could give your thoughts on what the destruction of this Bloodstone means for that ritual. We know this wasn't the keystone that wasn't destroyed (that was in the Fire Island chain), so this one was tied to one of the four schools of magic (Aggression, Denial, Destruction, Restoration). While I doubt this will have any gameplay impact, how does the destruction of one of the focal points for that sealing affect the world as a whole?

Abbadon was individually the most powerful of the Old Six. It took Three of the Five fighting together to stand against him. Do all gods eventually go mad, and it happened to Abbadon sooner than other gods, or did Abbadon have too much power that it eventually drove him to madness. Will Kormir share the same fate eventually?

Hey WP, This here might be an interesting question for a Q&A. If dragons are corrupted by the sheer amount of magic they have, how come their minions are also corrupted in the same way? They do not hold the same amount of magic, but are of course still tied to the dragon, and this connects them to the dragons magic, thereby corrupting them somehow I suppose. This then makes me wonder how the Forgotten cleansed Glint. Was it due to cutting the ties with Kralkatorrik or did they somehow drain part of her magic (and put it in a bloodstone)? And how come Glint didn't become corrupted by the magic she had herself?
@gabem.2795

An interesting theory! Though why would the dragons go to sleep if they were/are Bloodstone crazed? If we can assume that it is like an addiction, surely they would continuously need and want magic regardless of how much was left, thereby not wanting to sleep? Unless they become exhausted? But how would magic return to the world if they consumed it all?
@gtafan110010
@gtafan110010 8 лет назад
the problem with this theory is that mordremoth was far too rational to be entirely corrupted. he spoke and planned his counter attacks. being that rational he should have then given a greater insight into the fact that he was turning insane, or his behaviour should have supported the idea of corruption by magic

Now, if what we are seeing is truly uncleansed magic madness, what is it happening to glint's egg that has been consuming it like crazy? I certainly hope Taimi's findings on the Chak organ's changing magic will have an impact when it comes to "cleansing" the magic for elder dragon consumption (corruption free). Also, I wonder if that will help with Rytlock's story line and the whole cleansing ritual for the ghosts o.O

This would be a cool plot twist, it's even in the colours (let's take the example of a dragon still alive: Kralkatorikk. It's just purple everywhere, all the sounds, the ambiance, everything makes you think of a mesmer only area, so that would be Lyssa). I'd actually like such a plot twist, we have killed a god before, in Nightfall, so why not do that again, this time with the remaining gods (would need to assign a dragon to Kormir though, as she took the place of Abaddon). I really liked Anet to do that, make us gods killers and everything that comes with it (the hatred, everything). But as always, I'm prepared to be disappointed. Just like with the sylvaris in HoT. I was really looking into the breakout of racism towards them, the 200% suspicion, and they started by doing it (first instance, when you need to do an event to get to Maguuma, all Sylvaris are being arrested because they're suspected of going to the enemy, they're held at gun point, ready to be shot down by Pact soldiers, it's clearly stated they're all considered as traitors and they won't be trusted now. In Maguuma you even have the choice to save a captured Sylvari squad or let them perish cause you suspect them or don't value their life anymore, I don't know). But after that, nothing. Just NPCs randomly saying nobody trusts them. Same goes for the campaign with a Sylvari character. Some characters say they don't know if they can fully trust you and that's it. So, as much as I'd like a cool plot twist like the one you have in mind, I really wouldn't expect that. (Won't provide a tl;dr cause too lazy and too tired, sorry)

They actually won't release it after the next raid. Good luck if you're going through it, I'm wondering if it will be one day in game (you know, like many other promised legendaries). (I'm caring about this cause this is starting to feel like some real bad joke, I'm not even interested into crafting legendaries).

Hey WP! When do you think we'll see an end to the Human-Centaur conflict and how do you think it will most likely be settled? Might it be greatly or somewhat affected by the open resurgence of the White mantle, might we even have a confirmation that they had a finger in the conflict? We have seen bandit and centaur interaction, a training camp in kessex hills as well as slave trade. Also do we know why the war began in the first place? I recall us killing leaders of the Maguma centaurs back in gw1 to prevent a conflict back then.

Ok WoodenPotatoes, question for you. In the past 4 years in Tyria our player characters have been present at the deaths of not one, but two Elder Dragons (and were quite literally inside Mordremoth's mind at the time of his demise) beyond that we have been collecting bloodstone (or at least bloodstone dust) for years now as well, and were present - even if distantly so - when the bloodstone exploded. It stands to reason, that out of everyone in Tyria the player character has been exposed to more loose or unbound magic than anyone else on the Tyria (baring perhaps the other Elder Dragons and Lazarus). If what you are saying about the dangers of absorbing excess magic energy corrupting is true shouldn't the players be experiencing at least some degree of bloodstone or magic based madness. And for that matter what of Rytlock after all, Rytlock was every bit as present as the player character at the deaths of both Elder Dragons and is with us in season 3 when the bloodstone exploded and is traveling with us through Bloodstone Fen which is steeped with unbound magic. Unless his connection to the Mists as a revenant make him immune to the effects of bloodstone or magic induced magic (which if true could put him in a Kormir like position) do you think we should be worried about his well being and for that matter the well being of our characters given the degree of exposure we have already had to sudden and dramatic outpourings of magic energy and will likely experience in future content if our characters course of action does not change?

So one night, at like 4 am I had a thought (P.S this was right around the time that HoT came out). Tyria itself is alive in a sense yeah? It, somehow, produces magic which then the Elder Dragons take and consume. So if Tyria itself is alive (somehow), what's not to say that it's not made and/or making (coughpaletreecough) something to take over the Elder Dragons spot? What's not to say that the Elder Dragons themselves aren't just cosmic viruses/parasites and Tyria's finally made some damn antibodies? Yea there's the whole balance thing of the magic has to go somewhere (elder dragons) and then be slowly released back into Tyria or it will implode in on itself or something but I find the Elder Dragons = Cosmic Parasites to be rather plausible. Afterall, is there any record, anything at all to say what does happen if Tyria just gets to keep it's magic all the time? (IDK because I'm not caught up on lore, sue me.) Then there's the Mists which makes it more confusing, like... is it the in between space of realities? The bridge connecting all afterlifes? What is it's purpossseee. And ghosts, what about ghosts. Are they inherently magical or are they made of something else that enables them to stick around after the Elder Dragons suck Tyria dry and go to sleep? And then there's the human Gods, which not gonna lie make my head spin with trying to figure out why they can't do shit against the elder dragons if they're so damn powerful. I'm not that caught up on lore so my theories are usually completely and irrevocably implausible but it's still fun to play around with them when you have no sleep. (also yes I know the Pale Tree was basically made by Mordremoth but I'm pretty sure she fought off Mordremoth's control (if I remember correctly) of her and seems to be completely self-sufficient without Dad)
