Guild Wars 2 - Part 1 

This has been absolutely delightful to watch as a GW2 Veteran.

as a fan of gw2 ffxiv and wow always found it strange that gw2 never got more mainstream attention glad to see it's picking up lately been big wins for my three fave multiplayer games and I love it.

The Norn theme and intro paintings is what sold me to actually put some heart into this game. GW1 was my first MMO and I had played WoW, so I kinda rolled with the punches for GW2 thinking I was hot shit and knew the dance. But the intro tempted me into getting _invested_ into the world. Made my 10-year main a month later after having a dream.

as someone who really only uses twitch (these days) to watch Critical Role vods, A Big Thank You for uploading this to youtube! Went back to GW2 after 7~8 Years away shortly after the steam launch and have been having a blast (currently halfway through unlocking my skyscale and doing daily t4 Fractals). I've been SUPER interested to hear your thoughts on the game so I guess I have second screen content for the next day or 2 :D

I LOVE GW2. It has ruined me for other MMOs with the combat though since, unless it's a channeled ability, you can run and cast anything. It gives you so much freedom to run and dodge while in combat. I also love the monetary stuff they have in the Black Lion Trade Company....it's all cosmetic so no one can get a power level over anyone else. With no sub I know I have spent WELL over what I would have spent for subs, instead on, to me, HIGH quality cosmetics. But, you don't have to buy all cosmetic items because some items might be given to you through different in game events/Holiday events. Over time, you do get more of the transmutation charges to let you have a different look to customize your gear. Some you get from daily log on items. EVERY ITEM you loot, you save the appearance of that item, some you have to choose to add the appearance, but it's still free. So you have an ever growing wardrobe to customize your character. You can also go onto the Black Lion Trade Company and purchase items from the Trading Post just because you might like a look from some cheap item being sold. You purchase the item and then click on the item and "Add look to Wardrobe". The closest thing to a bower boost are just scrolls, food, and flags that give you buffs. Everyone, for the most part, is on equal standing. There are no pure tanks and no pure healers so the game is more on your skill to dodge and notice the mechanics of the bosses/battles. For the most part, there really isn't anything about this game I don't like. The BIGGEST perk is no sub so I don't feel like I HAVE TO log on and play everyday so that don't feel like I'm paying a nothing. I can get on and off when I can and not miss out on anything.

WoW took a lot of QoL ideas from GW2. And yes, greens being better than blues is a major, mental issue to start with.

I don't claim to be the best blacksmith in Whiterun. Eorlund Gray-Mane's got that honor. The man's steel is legendary. All I ask is a fair chance.

The fish traps are to feed the baby bears... you missed out and now the baby bears have no food. I loved watching the process of discovery through your first day in Tyria. You weren't afraid to just go and explore and find out what you could do- which is the greatness of GW2. I have never, however, talked so much to a video as I did watching this LOL! "Turn LEFT, grab the banners, food, OMG F to loot, explore the blurry areas", etc. I felt so much relief when you figured out the sell tab at merchants. XD Also watching people do amazing things on a raptor that I never considered because there didn't used to be mounts when I was discovering this game is a thrill. I was sad that you didn't get the Svanir Dome event though, it's actually a fun fight!

Fun watching a MMO veteran interacting with a new MMO. hope you continue to enjoy yourself.

Ooh exciting. I tried out GW2 last year after finishing with my static in FF14! Honestly really love it, I made a Guardian Sylvari, and I just really enjoy how rewarding it is to run around and explore. I still dunno how to play, but it's fun. Edit: also yeah, I started on Norn and didn't like my character either (obviously, I restarted pretty quickly lol). They're fine, but I just found them a bit bland when compared with races like the Asura or Sylvari.

This be intresting to see, i always wanted to try guild war 2 but never got around to it, and unsure if I would enjoy it. So it be interesting watch preaches adventure

"Nobody wants to do a Jumping Puzzle." There are people who enjoy Chalice of Tears and that's an absolute pain. I do like the reaction when he found out there were real JPs in the game :p

1:30:00 - The bunny quests harken back to Guild Wars 1, where there was a spot that copies the old Monty Python Vorpal Bunny skit. GW2 in the Norn areas thus has a few Bunny spots, but unlike the GW1 thing, they're not lethal, just funny.

hahaha sincerely enjoying this series, but man when Preach put that gem instead of the sigil on that staff, it really hurt me and made me LOL in RL. Great content my man please keep it up!

The MC voice acting, reminds me of Skyrim somehow, the character name is on the tip of my tongue but wont roll off.

Now we just need to convince asmongold to begin his gw2 journey....i genuinely love watching new players enjoy the game...though I've never screamed at a screen about multiple things like grabbing banner buffs and food, equipping gear and deconstructing or depositing your mats from your inventory...XD

screaming intensifies about the Deposit all materials button in the Inventory. When you bags are full in the top right in inventory there are 3 buttons and one deposits all your excess materials right into your bank. Also salvage kits both should be highlighted right when the player starts.

I'm watching this thinking: wait till Mike discovers the dodge button :)

That voice actor is like...half of Skyrim

I know he'd never want to play Charr or Sylvari, but I feel they had the better opening chapters, and voice acting.

The door is a part of the event chain that happens in that area that begins with "the Lionguard are ready to attack." And has he found out yet that you can mouse over the Legend to the left when the map is open and it'll highlight the things you miss?

The first time you enter Lion's Arch, the game shows you the intro video and drops you near the entrance to Gendaran Fields. Anytime later you spawn at the location you're coming from.

If you're lost on where to find new vistas pois or waypoints etc, if you open the map then mouse over the map key it will highlight the pois, vistas, and waypoints etc that you haven't been to yet. It highlights them with a little glowing circle over it.

the kid did build a snowman u can see it if u followed him ..it appeared for a moment in the vid...and the axe rift ability is a cc/pull... mostly not for damage... if figting several at once u start with that...then the mace 2/5 skills for example ...to pull all the mobs into the aoe area/combo field/and finish combo with the 5 skill for bonus boons/effects

it's on my list of games to try but for new there are other games i wanna finish mmo's just take time and do it slowly

You may have learned this already, Preach, but just in case: encumbered just means your bags are full. It has nothing to do with weight like in DS or ER and 'fat-rolling' or the lot.

Do NOT spend gems on transmutation charges. You can get a ton in WVWVW.

Well to be honest the Asura I was exactly like that in the beginning. HELL NO. Now I have 3 of them they are fun especially on Jumping Puzzles and other small stuff :)

This game was so good when it came out, I was a massive fan of it. It died off quickly and I eventually purchased Mists of Pandaria, but it was probably the best MMO launch I've ever played. Unfortunately, it looks like its new player experience needs some polishing in 2023. Then again, you went through ARR just fine so you'll probably be okay.

This guy can tell he doesn't like his character within 2 minutes. Continues to play it for 6 hours.

I wonder if he'd have liked the VA of Sylvari or Human better. Never was a huge fan of the Norn voices, always went with Asura or Sylvari (I'm an appreciator of the Asuran sass and Cabbage ass), but Humans got a nice voice when they're not running as fast as a centaur.

I love wow and ff14 but gw2 has my heart. I wish I could get my friends to play it but it's such a deep game that does a poor job of explaining just how much there is to do it's hard to keep people's attention.

I personally think he should've gone Necro and then REAPER. To this day it's my favourite power dps spec. And as a sylvari main I felt offended being called an ELF xD RESPECTFULLY PREACH WE ARE PLANT PEOPLE! xD Also I hate that the Rabbit Priestess has the same name as me, being called TRASH by Preach is painful lol. (Gonna be fun when Preach discovers the end game of FASHION WARS! xD )

Why is he hating on norn voice actor?

You know, I always thought, voice acting in game was a make or break feature... and they did a good job in GW2 (though it was funny and sometimes annoying to see them use the same VA for not only different characters but different races too... and norn with the same voice as an Asura?), but after a while it got irritating since everything was set in stone, with no room for personal decisions. When GW2 was new, you always had two or three options how to react in dialogs... but that became lesser after the base game and isnt a thing anymore :(

I think the difficulty bars on the create character screen needs updating. Engineers should now be at most 2 given that Mechs exist.

I hate seeing people stream sniping streamers trying out gw2. Don’t like seeing flashy looking characters ruining immersion :( leave the newbies alone, go grind some fractals or whahevah!

2:20:22 me when listening the human female. For real ruining my experience with the story. Stopped playing for many times because of that. Wish we could choose between the player voices.

I see people shitting all over the GW2 personal story, and sure its bad at the start, but its also branching. Meanwhile I am trying to get through FF14 and I can say its not better then GW2's story at all, I have spend 40 hours so far and still walking from point to point on the map to have unvoiced random tasks to kill 3 monsters here and talk to 5 npcs in this village etc. People say it gets better with the first expansion, and thats exactly the same for GW2.

Former WoW player and current FF14 player here. I remember playing the original Guild Wars and this game looks vastly different from it. Seems they completely changed lots of systems. So far the combat does look similar to WoW in terms of pace. Perhaps some time in the future I'll try it during the 14 patch slumps.

Ive been playing for 10 years and I have 12 alt characters. None of which are female norn because I cant stand the female norn voice.

Guild Wars 2 can be fun for a while, but don't go in expecting to get anything substantive out of the story. It isn't FFXIV by any stretch.
