Guild Wars 2 - The Druids of Draconis Mons, M.O.X Returns, & More |Flashpoint Story Summary 

Those who follow the streams are already aware of this, but I've been having some major PC overheating issues the past week or so! As a result this thing's render crashed for like... two days straight. Pretty stressful but should be resolved now, sorry about the delay guys! Next up we'll be seeing an elder dragon...

Regarding largoes - perhaps, arrival of Primordus to the Ring of Fire boiled the water nearby, and this particular largo was caught with no means to escape it. There is no evidence that she was looking for something rather than survival - just look at her, steam is coming out, she lies on a beach so close to the dangerous boiling waters that it sometimes still burns her. She must be trying to get to the surface, but failed.

A correction, the island didn't rise when Primordus came (which is extremely recent, at the same time Bloodstone Fen events take place), but when Primordus first awoke after GW1. That's how Zinn found the place. Druid explain that Primordus affected volcanoes all over Tyria, including Draconis Mons.

I thought the Taimi bit was really interesting. Especailly since Taimi asks the commander what to do and he genuinly can't come up with a response rather than lets just keep going and we'll deal with it when we get to it. I actually think that was brilliant because for once the commander is showing flaw, there was a lot of situations where the story drives a feeling of hopelessness. Taimi didn't have all the answers and it was great that she flat out says she doesn't know how it all works, how can expect everythign to be fully explains. We've had Omadds machine in the story a while, we cna't exactly explain the eternal alchemy in great detail. We have had the set up of killing dragons a while and it became quite clear we wont just be picking them off one by one and have the dragons waiting their turn. The idea of containing this magic became too much and im glad the plots taking a different direction as multiple threats were introduced in the movement of the world. Even in episode 1 we sat there going oh damn, we have 2 dragons, Lazarus and Caudecous to deal with. The story was actually pretty clever as most of us believed we were going down that cliche route and it all seemed so simple with Taimis device. No matter what phrases are throwing around Macguffins, Deus exmachina etc we can all agree it was a great move to destroy the machine. People say in the end what was the point of all this, was it not cheap to send them all to sleep? I have the opposite opinion here. It gives us oppetunities to explore and we know theyre still a threat. It lets us take a step back an asses the situation. Destorying the machine was a good move, we had no real choice and were willing to try everything. We are back at step one, with the exception we have a bit more knowledge of what will happen if we pit them against eachother. The only excpetion is we are now down a weapon and are technicalyl responsible for making a god even more powerful. I like how we're not that all knowing problem solver. Our guild is falling a part before it has even became something real. I think there will be a moment of unity and coming together in a later episode. Zinns involvement was excellent. It was nice to see a lot of the current story tie in a lots of old threads. MOX was actually one of my favorite characters in the original game. I actually thought the Rata Novus situation would have us go through the spare asura gate (used in a story achievment). Maybe we'd find Zinn here? I was a little dissapointed there was no Rata novus and you should have seen my face that he did infact get some references on the new map. Its interesting to note the Falls still has hints about Zinn in Auric Basin suggesting the researchers want to return when its all over. I wonder if they will go back to this at some point? Great video! Keep it up and i look forward to the next episode!

As much as I love Scruffy, I want MOX to join up with Dragons Watch more than anything, hes too good for just home instance fluff.

Maybe the Largos corpse is hinting at the Deep Sea Dragon rising and becoming more active? Draconis Mons is near the deep area of the sea, so potentially the Largos got killed by some dragon minions underwater and washed up onto the shore.

I think they're reintroducing the Largos to lead up to introducing the Deep Sea Dragon

There are actually FOUR heroes who could potentially be alive in gw2. You forgot about Livia.

On Guild Chat they talked about Mox and how he lies when he says he wont bring a Webby with him. You will sometimes see and Webby in your home instance and sometimes not because Mox is full of spiders. Sometimes a pet goes for a walk. They also has some interesting talk on how they pretty much redid that area of the map once they started writing Mox.

Truer words were never spoken. 'Old Nostalgia' indeed. Almost squeaked when I saw the name M.O.X pop during the story steps. :D

My favourite lore tidbit in this patch was that the druid Liriodendron was not one of those who originally tended this garden but travelled from the east to help them out after the damage Zinn caused. This makes it very likely that the Hidden Garden jumping puzzle was a druid garden he created, which means some of those gardens must be much younger than others because in gw1 the hidden garden was between the ice caves of sorrow and witman's folly while the draconis mons garden already existed.

Whether you like Taimi or not that "oh boiii" line was brilliant. I actually mentioned LOST to my guild when i saw the polar bear too

@WoodenPotatoes at 11:04, when he's saying 'heads up, weapons out' he's responding to the fact that the asuran tracker was just wrapped in vines and dragged underground. He perceived a threat and is alerting the others.

I want taimi to hook up a communicator to MOX so i can listen to the tunes while out in the wilds of the world

"Heads up! Weapons out!" part is about the event spawning on the shore on north of where you are, with the mercenaries coming via another submarine and stuff. It's not about the story or the Asura having taken away. I was just luck that they overlapped in your playthrough. EDIT: I suppose the event starts when a player comes to that certain point of the story and NPC interaction. Because I've seen the NPC say those things when the event starts and I'm just there, not doin the story.

I've never gotten chills from this game so bad until I saw M.O.X. Very happy

My thoughts on the crystal in the middle, is that it was a Druid creation. To help hide the garden sanctuary by making it act like a real volcano. Maybe even for the purpose of providing heat and light for the life inside.

I was so excited to see MOX again! That guy has helped me so much in getting through GW1! So, my biggest complaint about Taimi's revelation is that she "ran a test" on the Eternal Alchemy. Like, sure, Omadd's machine helped us "see" the Eternal Alchemy, but wasn't that mostly just an interpretation? Do we have any numbers associated with the orbs? What data was the machine using to be able to simulate the Eternal Alchemy? Math was completely thrown to the wind, even though it's suggested that Taimi was able to translate our vision of the Eternal Alchemy into solid measurements. On the flip side, I'm actually totally okay with Taimi coming to her senses. Notice she says "we discovered" and not "I." This means that the other scientists who finally learned about Taimi's projects were able to help her make that discovery. It wasn't just her-- she would have totally lead us to our doom. But the fact that she was forced to consult the others lead to a more refined discovery. I think that's good, because you're right; the story did feel like we knew exactly where it was going. But this changes things, and I'm really intrigued with where it will go.

I really enjoy your videos WoodenPotatoes. I wish you can make a series in which the videos are less than 10mins. Because a lot of times I want to watch your videos but I don't have 30-20min to watch. Keep up the good work. Best GW RU-vidr.

There's a Largos on the map?? :o Man, I miss GW1's map system, when I would get 100% map completion by literally going to every inch of the map. I get so frustrated in GW2 when I supposedly get "100% map completion" yet miss out on so many areas and details! xD

It's interesting because there's still the possibility of another Fire Island Chain map being put above Draconis Mons, so even though they've put a completely new map in that spot we may still be able to visit areas we went to in Guild Wars 1.

It's funny you mention Balthazar vs Melandru here. I hadn't quite spotted that in the patch, but it makes sense. I was saying to my guildies the other day how if we go back to the 1 dragon = 1 god idea from back in the day and also take the fact that Balthazar appears to be a bit if a competitive arsehole, then maybe he's seen Grenth and Melandru get their powers back and has been motivated to get his own powers back out of competitive jealousy. This could also suggest a pact between the 4 gods who haven't got their powers back yet and why Lyssa maybe helped him with his disguise? Also interesting to note that Zhaitan and Mordremoth were on the same ring/orbit/cog of the Antikythera/Great Alchemy, and Jormag and Primordus appear to be on the same ring too. The 1-1 idea would mean Grenth and Melandru are on the same ring, and Balthazar and Dwayna are on the same ring. Now, who were the pair ups in GW1 Wintersday again?

I think the middle pillar is firestone like what the grawl use and is needed for the tonic to get into the bitter cold.

I also like the direction they are going in regarding the map exploration and use of waypoints. *Maybe* one day we'll have ships/airships/submarines/giant sand worms/other cool ways to travel between maps/areas too (and enjoy the view).

That largos armor looks sexy and would be a nice alternative to medium armor trenchcoats :D

To be fair, Taimi only found out about her mistake after the other Asura got to poke around her secret lab and research and point out some of the things she missed. It plays inyo Taimi's lesson of "I shouldn't have been doing all this on my own."

I was pretty excited that the Rata Sum docks got used in this chapter. I thought it would be used for something like this eventually, but not in a Living World chapter like this.

I have to agree with the critique of Tiami's revelation... that dialogue felt so underhanded despite the severity of its implications. Our motivations have done a 180, that coupled with Balthazar's reveal, it was one of the things that really irks me about Anet's integrity of writing a consistent story episodically. However, finding MOX, as a hardcore GW1 fan, was genius :D Made me so happy!

Rewatching the cutscene now in your video it got me thinking. In the simulation, we can clearly see Zhaitan's and Mordremoth's orbs, so maybe that mean that even though they are dead their energy and magic are still in Tyria so we don't have a huge problem yet but if I remember correctly the words used about this plan were "canceling each other". Maybe this "canceling" of dragon energy is the real problem since they would cease to exist and that is what would have dire consequences. So maybe killing the Elder dragons is not a problem as long as their energy is still there?

I hope someone records all the dialog from the creation of the druid backpiece. Since it's tied to an achievement, you can only go through the associated dialog once per account.

An I loved that Caudacus daughter brought back Tybalt. Was sad for me to see, was hoping she would just be grave wounded. But has been a long time since I lost someone I had story an quest connection with so kudos to LW season 3 team.

WP I know that the more elder dragons we kill the more unstable terya (pardon my spelling) gets. but what do you think may happen if we were to try to imprision one withing a fractal? or would it do more harm than good to expose one to the mists?

There was a tinge of sadness that MOX was still 'alive' all along and how he is helping 'us' once again. How he helped us once during the nightfall campaign and now again in gw2. What I mean by us is that, during EOTN and the whole HoM thing, Anet stated that our gw2 character would be reincarnations of our gw1 character, thanks to the HoH. #thefeelsman

IMO on the Taimi part, its 100% fine they did what they did and make her realize her mistake. Her mistake would have ended the world had the two dragons died, aka, no more GW2 to play at all. There wouldn't be a story after that point What they SHOULD have done though was a better delivery of HOW she realized that mistake and learned from it (eg important Asura characters being shown pointing it out to her or something of the sort)

I think because of the MOX jukebox thing you should make a "speculation" on where the next exp is going to be (even if many know it from the leaks) i specifically mean the tracks "golden sun" and "garden of sebelkeh"... also any ideas as to why are there no faction tracks in his playlist?

M.O.X. appearing in this made me geek out & I teared up! I love M.O.X. so much I used him all the time after getting him! I would love it if Timi fixed him up!

I don't think anything was removed in that moment where the asura was taken and the charr says "weapons out". It would be easy to assume in that moment that you might be under attack... just nothing happened. lol

Here's a question for you. You said that Wintersday is about a dispute between Dwayna and Grenth. And there's been discussion of Balthazar and Melandru being at odds. What about Lyssa and Kormir/Abaddon? Perhaps Lyssa got along well with Abaddon since he was the God of Secrets and she the Goddess of Illusions, and Illusions tend to keep secret things secret. But now that Kormir is the Goddess of Truth, and Truth breaks Illusions...........

I hope that we and/or Taimi get to repair M.O.X. and he will be in future story instances. Taimi and M.O.X. could make a nice comedic relief couple.

Well Balthazard still managed to use the machine and the machine was destroyed. So Taimi verifying her hypothesis too late kinda was a mistake, we just don't know if it's a big one yet.

Druids should have casted Melandru's Resilience to players instead of Druid's Protection. That ranger elite skill in gw1 gave health regeneration when the player was standing on lava :P

Zhaitan also had his tower even though we never went inside, he just fell off it and died lmao. (Dammit, personal story!) So that'd be 3/3 dragons with some kind of tower.

Taimi's hologram sure reminded me of it, and it makes me wonder if perhaps that image was a warning of what would happen if we continued on our course of killing elder dragons. I don't know if there are any fractals that tackle alternate timelines but it sure would be interesting to see one where that sequence of events takes place.

The mistake of killing the dragon may still be on the table. Jormag is now sent to slumber againg, and our enraged youngster is after him, so maybe we just made it possible to him that he will actually get his prey. For some reason the story led it to him embarking on this hunt, and it would be really strange move if it would end in just getting back empty handed.

Isn't this Charr's voice actor the same as the ghouls in the Fallout games? At least 3 and New Vegas.

We were lead to Draconis Mons by suspicious activity in the seas around there. There was a reason behind it, it was just stated once and you were probably distracted by freaking out over the submarine. We didn't unlock MOX through a questline. We unlocked MOX by reaching a certain level threshold, and then we unlocked the Zinn introductory questline through him. Taimi made her mistake even if someone else intercepted the machine and prevented her from following through with it, and her mistake was almost followed through anyways. Just because she was saved from the consequences doesn't mean it didn't happen. Also you attempted to defend Taimi but then completely missed the more important point. She hasn't avoided being a Mary Sue because she "failed." She has avoided being a Mary Sue because 90% of the work isn't hers. The machine is irreplaceable because she has no idea how to tap into the Eternal Alchemy. That was all Omadd. She tweaked the machine to manipulate instead of just observe, but that's it. That's a rather minor alteration compared to the machine's function as a whole.

Taimi is the most loveable character yet

The only Problem this Patch for me has in terms of Story is what comes next. I hope they introduce the feeling that we Are out of clues on what to do next. We blew up the machine, primordus is back to being inactive. We don't know where to Go Next. Maybe we pick up Brahms storyline there. The thing is that this Patch was Material for season finale and they have to Go extremely amazing in the Next Episode. Maybe we fight Jormag and lose.

Is M.O.X. the first Dervish we see in GW2?

They're not just "the druids" they are druidic spirits. A druid is a guy who channels nature magic, can shape plants, understand animals or can become one of them... So a druid is more like a way of being. These are spirits of ancient druids or something, not just "the druids". :P

Actually that was no pact but vigil only we got to see really on the maps, The whisper agent is for the inquest only, he does not seem to be doing pact business. Also it is nice how they made in gw2 the gw1 design golem, but one gw1 place they butchered was Oola's lab. Both out of place from the original location as well at the design inside of the place and the golems themselves have the new gw2 asura made designgs, unliike what you would a expect from a lab that was at the time of gw1. (unless Oola's ghost just left the lab to investigate the modern designs but i doupt) At least on thamanova reactor fractal things were not so badly deformed or relocated. Anet is loosing considering they do not put any race specific dialogues in the last patches.Not as much as the head of the snake, but this one could have a lot of special human dialogue and it is quite a pity. It could give another vibe to the episode, much more interesting. PS: at 19:02 it is 250 years not 150. Also in Zinn's recording was mentioned moving his menagerie, could this be the vault with the cages?

Forgetting about the 4th character/hero we want to see return from GW 1 WP.....Kormir!!!

As someone who didn't play GW1 (although slowly making my way through it on and off atm), I thought M.O.X. was still a really fun character, probably my favourite side character from the entire season, after Aurene. It's weird, though, as I logged into GW1 for the first time in a while this week and was given M.O.X as a new hero - I definitely haven't done the story, yet, so I am wondering if they patched that after the last episode for new players who are going through GW1? Bit weird but they might have done that.

Hidden M.O.X. joke ! : If you own a snow leopard cub in your home instance, M.O.X. will comment about picking up hairballs while you're away.

the orb cutscene: am i the only one who only see's one of the 2 orbs crashing in the middle? .. the red orb just disappears.. and , because of that i had a complete different perspectiv of the story. i thought because of the disappearing of the red orb that tyria will explode because the power just get lost in the universe and dont goes back to his source .. i hope there is someting to it .. because i am not satisfied with the way the story goes now "oh hey 2 dragons are sleeping now, great thing people 250 years later can take care of them than, lets sing those other 2 dragons a good night song too and be done"

Regardless of the silly dragon-slaying machine being destroyed, it still got introduced, would have worked, and is canon.

that robot voice, sounds just like the elders voice from wildstar :D. hmm maybe old wildstar devs ar hired for gw2, also the fract nightmare seems very wildstarish in the boss mechanic. Or gw2 have taken some insperation from wildstar. This is ofc not a bad thing, wildstar did alot of stuff right :D.

Why pronounce it M-O-X and not just as one word like MOX pronounces his own name?

Something's been irking me about Draconis Mons. When we fought Zhaïtan, we crosses the realms of Orr, fought many champions, waged a year-long war. When we attacked Mordremoth, the Pact was decimated, and we had to cross four maps to get to that final boss. To go see Primordus, we took a submarine, and we were basically there. I know a lot of fans of this map (frankly I don't like it, but hey, to each their own) will object that Balthazar's minions may have wiped out the dragon champions guarding the chamber, but... that would put them on par with the Pact, or imply they had been waging a secret war for months or even years without us knowing. Am I the only one struck by this?

Maybe the druids lost their memories from the time they were humans and that is why they don't recognise Balthazar. They just know he is powerful so they call him a god being

The Taimi thing is real, she's doing too well and I want her to fail so the character can grow. And she was so close in this patch. But I think this could be solved easily. If Phlunt was the one that told her to run the simulation. I mean, he's a Jerk, but he is old and experienced, he could've made connections that Taimi never saw after seeing the stuff that she was doing in her secret lab. Taimi would've realized that she was going to make a huge mistake, but thanks to Phlunt she would have avoided that. Also, I like the fact that Phlunt came back with reinforcements, it really made the character grow on me. And after all this he could gloat about the whole thing, reminding Taimi of the mistake she was about to make and that collaboration is important, etc...

i'm dreading the idea of a new expansion... i haven't even been able to buy HoT yet xD how am i gonna catch up?
