Guilds In The Elder Scrolls Online: A Retrospective

The experiences that I have had and the friends that I have met through guilds in ESO are the primary reasons why I have continued to regularly log in to the Elder Scrolls Online. A lot of the time, the issues that players bring up in the comments of my videos can be resolved by participating in ESO guild culture. That being said, some players are still reluctant to join a guild for a variety of reasons. This video aims to showcase some of the benefits of joining an ESO guild, dispel common concerns about ESO guilds, and share some of my personal experiences with guilds - good ones and bad ones! With all of this in mind, perhaps you might finally decide to go ahead and join a guild in ESO!

What have your experiences with guilds been like? Also, any Redditors in the chat? The ESO subreddit has a reoccurring post called "Guild Fair Friday"; a thread that welcomes the promotion of guilds in the Elder Scrolls Online! Besides the in-game guild finder, this may be another great means to browse through guild descriptions and find one that resonates with you! Check out the subreddit here: www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/

I have been playing online games since 96, with a Mud called Mazers and orks. I have probably played about 20 MMO's, as it is my preferred game. The Best guild I was in was Knights Of Slivermoon from World of warcraft that started on the Silvermoon server in 06. After a while we all moved to Starwars, then moved to Swtor. A few of us still played WoW, but were unhappy with the way the game went after Wrath. Sadly Most moved on with their lives, families and other things. I am an introvert Autistic with mobility issues which limit what I can do in game, or hurt reaction time in action combat games, for instance I have a lot of problems with first person shooters, or games like Guild wars 2. But I can play ESO for the most part. When the game came out I was in 5 guilds, one had members from my old KoS Guild. But with all the problems the game had at the beginning they left for other games, and the poison in the other guilds was bad so I left ESO for a few years. While the game itself is okay, and I have fun playing it, the toxic players is one that I avoid, or the "You must do this, or parse this, or make this much money" does put me off the guilds, I have a hard time making commitments anymore. I find it very difficult to be in more then 2 guilds at the same time and keep up with chat, events, or mandatory stuff. So I play mostly with just myself, (Just like my mom always said, you have to learn to play with yourself before you can learn to play with others) But it is also the group finder for dungeon's or the standing around for someone looking to do normal raids since I have a hard time with the hardmodes. I mostly play solo because it is what I am used to, not having to rely on someone else, I can go at my own pace and not feel like I am lagging behind because I saw a shiny chest or heavy sack. I have tried in the past leveling with someone else, but it never worked because we could not always be online at the same time, and when I need to play a character I play that character, sigh I have 17, I just deleted one for the next expansion. Most of them are crafting or bag alts. The Problem I have with ESO is not the guilds, though it has a little to do with it. In Wow it used to be where you could not do any dungon or raid without being in a guild, and those guilds became stronger because of it. People got used to playing with the same people over and over, people knew what they could and could not handle in the pull, they talked with each other and played jokes on each other, like the whole LEEEEEROOOY! Thing. Oh where is Timmy? he must be off Trying to get that Chest at the bottom, the one we can never get. I feel the only reason for guilds right now in ESO is for trading because there is no AH. The one guild I am in right now is..... Well for the most part people only talk when they want something. Other wise you dont exist.

Glad you mentioned this. Baffles me that the guild finder doesn't allow for search by keywords, which makes it feel like pulling a name out of a hat.

I got kicked from a guild because I wasn't 'taking content seriously enough'. Many guilds, (talking as an Xbox player who plays endgame content) forget that the point of the game is to have fun. I've been in many a group, trying to get a clear of a Standard Vet Trial where people would routinely get yelled at, scolded and insulted for making a mistake. Up to the point where the 'guild' would be completely replaced (aside from he officers) every week. I think they could be fun if people wouldn't take it as seriously as they do. I was removed from the guild, after being there from it's founding (about an 8 month time frame) because I decided to play Minecraft after the Trial. 4 others were removed along with me for joining my Minecraft game. The second guild, I'll admit, I got kicked for good reason. There was no clear authority in the guild, the leader was a lady, but no one respected her, I thought it was like a sexism thing, with everyone talking behind her back. Well, turns out, people really meant it when they referred to her as a 'famous WW2 faction leader' (a title which she embraced). This led to me, already deciding I was going to leave, convincing some members of the guild to rise up to facism by making memes about the guild leader until I was removed from the discord. I also called her a facist to her face, which probably aided in my removal seeing as I joined as a friend of a friend, who was also guilty by association and got removed along with me. All in all, I see guilds as temporary friendships that lead nowhere because the ESO playerbase has an ego problem. Gone are the days of meeting with a guild, hanging out and having fun. Since no one plays on Xbox all that's left are the ultra-elitists and teenagers who have questionable morals, who let their in-game ego bleed into themselves as a person IRL. But that's just my experience, I'm sure through the sea of elitism, there is a guild out there that has what seems like antiquated values in this day and age of transactional friendships

1) Totally unrelated, but I saw that poutine and I'll go get one for supper now. 2) Guilds have been more friendly than one would imagine. There's a guild for everything, everyone, and even moreso, I've been stacking funds with one whilst giving/receiving daily freebies with another, have one for discussions and support, and another one for tackling content with silly builds. Do give guilds a try, it is worth the while. And if you don't want any social from it, you'll be a water drop among ~500 people so you can go unnoticed too.

I've been in and out of guilds since World of Warcraft in 2006, and my feeling is that I've given it a fair chance while giving myself time to grow as a person. Guilds and I simply aren't compatible. I don't have hours to spend waiting for everyone to show up late for a scheduled group outing. I'm also part of a marginalized and poorly understood community in real life, and don't feel that I owe the inevitable bigots in guild chat my attention. When I'm logged on, I'm on my time. I'd rather miss out on group content, and stick to what I can do alone or with the temporary group finding tools, than dread logging in because guilds are always such a negative experience. I'm glad that others' experiences have been different. It's good for the health of the game. A long body of experience has shown me that guild membership isn't for me.

As a very shy, casual solo pve player I've appreciated the 5 guild's I've been in for the past year. 4 are for trading and 1 is for housing. The only 2 times ive messaged guildes is to compliment their homes. I make decent sales, and mainly just contribute by buying raffle tickets each month for a chance to win something while giving gold to support trader costs. I have never been criticized for not joining up for dungeons or talking (thank goodness).

I have been playing eso since 2016 and I recently tried an experiment that is very close to what you are talking about in regards to being a solo player, I essentially played the game like it was a regular elder scrolls title, focused on Delves, questing, even playing in first person, and after doing that, honestly, I can say I get the players who do play solo. To me it was way more immersive and just focusing on your character and not have to think about other people in your party/guild it was really quite refreshing I will for sure keep a character like that to just chill around and do overworld content and zone out every now and again

My experience with Guilds has a tragic end. I've been in many Guilds that fell apart due to all sorts of drama, been Officer for 3 of them. I do not play ESO anymore because I have been through a lot with the Guilds I was in. However, I do want to give a shout-out to an Xbox NA Guild called The Hoard Knight. They are what remains from all of the Guilds we were a part of, and they went ahead to make a Guild themselves. I'm fortunate to met these guys, but the sad ending is that I realized that I cannot enjoy ESO like I used to because of past experiences with the Guilds I was a part of, so I just had to stop, and hang up the gloves. It's all good, as I have achieved so much, 100+ DPS, Grand Master Crafter, Spirit Slayer, Flawless Conquerer, done some Vet Dungeons and Trials, and proficient with PvP. I'd say if anyone is in Xbox NA, and are having a hard time finding people who would help you improve as a player, give my successors a try at The Hoard Knights.

ESO should have a sales platform that exists independently of guilds. If I want to sell stuff in the game, I have to join a guild to access the guild trader or spam zone chat with trade offers. It's also inconvenient to travel to different guild trader locations to search for items to buy.

I'm in an interested guild called "What a Mess" they didn't have any requirements so I knew they would be chill. When I first joined, I noticed right away that their guild chat would always be popping with friendly exchanges. I felt at home there the first day I joined.

Tamriel Homes and Gardens is a wonderful guild if you're into housing. People are happy to craft furniture for you if you send them the mats for it, there are contests and tours of houses, and folks don't mind getting together to grind for event rewards together, which makes the time go by way faster. There's a version on every platform as far as I know. Seeing other people's houses gives me so much inspiration, and getting feedback on my own helps me to improve. It's the one guild I've stayed in consistently for years. I love it!

I love these vids, they're so relaxing and interesting.ESO is so vast, I'm just enjoying the really well written and acted quests. Quests are my fave, once I'm done with the stories I'll go trials and pop, but I like the idea of those city raids. Anyways, good luck all! 👏🇨🇮

My guild experience has been very good. I belong to one guild and have been with them pretty much since the get-go (a couple or three years now). They helped me tremendously as a new player and I try to pay that forward, but predominantly play solo. I'll probably start looking to add something like a trading guild sometime in the near future, but I'm not quite to the "furnishings and fashion are the true end game" stage (yet).

Yeah, I'm that guy that preferred complete isolation when playing ESO. I got pretty good though, even managed to solo a lot of vet content. I went through a dozen guilds before I found TTS and I am so glad I did. I'm actually enjoying the guild experience now. My first guild was The Silk Road, not sure if they're still around but they introduced me to the trading system. Silverlight Brotherhood, Unmitigated Badassery, and UESP are some of the other guilds I got comfortable with. Great video, Arttea. Love your content...and your guild.

It took me a long time to even join a guild. I had a lot of those issues you mentioned in your video and with experiences with guilds in other games. I finally broke down and joined one and glad I did. Its a wonderful community as a whole and a lot of the fears I had were unfounded. I just wish I could find friends in the game, yes I have friends on my list, but they don't want to be social. (could be me lol) I have taken a lot of your advice in the past especially the pvp part, I have actually have had some fun with it lately. I even finally joined a trading guild and they don't require dues, just ask for donations and have a fairly good spot for the trader. Please keep your content coming! You have a point of view that is more unique among youtubers for eso and thank you.

Great vid as usual 🙏 I myself started playing ESO as a single player game in 2018. Wasn't interested in social aspect at all. Introvert as well. After some time started to join guilds just to check things out. Met my best ESO friends in the worst drama guild as well. Know them for 3 years and we speak every day. ESO without guilds wouldn't be the same game. Although now I don't really actively participate in any guilds and playing alone or with friends.

I am the type of person who enjoys being around people but never talks to them. I am also that type who donates gold and trades, but never participates in guild group events like dungeon, trials and stuff, but when a guildie asks for help with a world boss I simply teleport to them and help as if I was a random person passing by. And I like it that way to be honest. I understand that I'm mostly silent due to being shy and not being fluent in English, but nobody told me it's bad. When I applied to my guilds I mentioned my shyness (although nobody probably gives a f about that) and I only looked for guilds that are focused on trading because this is what I want to do right now. And people there are beyond nice judging from how they communicate with one another (shout-out to dragons and the saints!!) Before I found guilds that felt comfortable to be in I tried a few others. Some were fine, others not so much but I knew that there has to be something for me and I found it. Negative experience can sometimes influence your desire to continue looking but I promise it's worth it

I play mostly solo, sometimes join groups in my guilds or activities. I'm in your guild and love it, primarily for trader access and contests, etc. Not much interest in PvP. I try to participate in raffles, donate useful stuff to the guild, and list stuff for sale to "pay my way" so to speak. Am also in a guild called Gray Manes, which does a lot of PVE group content and is very accommodating of players like me-old, don't really care that much about being experts…we just want to have fun :) These two guilds offer plenty for me…I get just enough social interaction on both groups' great and active Discord servers and I'm glad I can mostly just noodle around doing my own thing. Thanks for all you do as a guild leader…it's gotta be a lot of work! I encourage players to try a guild and see if they like it.

I joined a few guilds and hopped onto discord chats. I think I just got really unlucky with all of them because the people I met were either incredibly annoying, toxic, or brain-dead immature (which I'd forgive if they were teens or kids, but they full blown adults with jobs and kids). Now I am a trashbrain myself but this was another level. These were all social guilds too. I haven't given another one a chance since those attempts and that was a couple years ago.

I solo. I bit the bullet a couple times and joined some guilds. I asked in guild chat if anyone was selling crowns, leadership flipped out on me in chat “if you have gold for crowns you have gold to donate!” I had just donated 50k of the 10k they asked for. I informed him that I do donate and I’m only trying to buy crowns from guild mates only, so in my eyes I was STILL helping the guild…he also didn’t see it that way either and continued his rant until I said screw it and left all guilds from that day forth. I see the appeal but I’m good, I play to relax and unwind not get yelled at like I’m a child.

Yikes, that's rough. Sorry to hear that happened. More and more I hear stories that are very similar to this one - guildmasters and officers try to find sneaky ways to get gold from their guildies or they shame guildies for not giving them gold. And in many of these stories, the guilds in question don't even have traders to pay for, so there is absolutely no justifiable reason as to why they should even be asking for gold in the first place :/ And even if there is a guild trader in the picture, that is no excuse to push guildies into giving up more gold than is necessary. If anyone ever runs into a guild that makes you feel uncomfortable about your donations or contributions, leave! That's oftentimes a red flag.
@rgaskinDVM

Agree, The game should be fun. Some trade guilds prohibit zone trading. Zone trading to me is too dangerous but also none of a guild's business. There are very good crown exchange guilds. the one I am in has a no load policy and brokers to keep us safe.

I used to be a very solo-only player, since I only really got ESO because I was interested in elder scrolls lore and questing. I ended up having fun with other aspects of the game and I joined a couple guilds for pve and trading, which was great as it rlly got me into the diverse content eso offers. I mainly played as a trophy collector on ps4, and one of the things I regret is not getting more into the trial scene since I didn’t overly focus on improving my build. I played at quite a slow pace, still mostly enjoying questing and completing area activities, which was annoying since eventually my ps+ subscription ran out. Ps+ is the only thing rlly stopping me from playing this game, since I go from periods where I play it a lot to leaving the game for a year.

I felt the ‘smallest smallest EP smallscape group’ moment on a physical level. I FELT those 20 spectral bow procs and 99 Deep Fissures hitting all at once, and I swear it triggered some deep-set PTSD. It must be a fever dream I imagined, though, as we all know that ‘only AD zergs’ 😊 But great advice here, as usual! I can’t remember how many guilds I’ve been through before finding my forever homes. Other than TTS (all hail the guild!), the other one I found very early on and have stayed with for over a year is called Swamp Jelly Sanctuary on PCNA. They are 100% casual. Really chill, accepting of all, and have a great leadership team. There are no dues, but they try to do a trader for a month every few months so that members get a chance to sell things. They also do amazing Trial training on weekends, where the only requirement is that you be over CP160, simply for gear trading (and even then, I don’t think that’s a hard rule, more of a common courtesy thing). PVE only (lots of guildies seem terrified of PVP or have had a bad experience and thus never want to go back) but that’s fine. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an awesome group of people to travel around with!

My experience has allowed me to witness some of the darkest "humor" in people. Five guild tries and no success has lead me to just become a solo player. Great video, Arttea! I am a MMO veteran. But in ESO I am just a casual. I have only been in one guild and a few trading guilds over the year I have played this game. But as soon as a new shiny game comes my way I forget about ESO for a time and get kick for inactivity (rightfully so). I do not see the point in trading guilds and guild traders as the ones who take trading seriously use sites and addons like Tamriel trade centre and tools like it to set there prices. I like it if ESO used the action house from Guild Wars 2. I have only been part of one guild, Friskyttarna, on the EU side. A welcoming and active guild for Swedes. I miss my time with them and still lurk on there Discord to see what they are up to. But knowing myself I will soon quit ESO again so there is no point applying to join them again.

I've been playing MMO's since Ultima Online and have tried countless guilds and all had been drama fests. Then in 2007, while playing Vanguard: Saga of Heroes I joined a guild that I kept seeing everywhere in the game. The guild is Old Timers Guild. Been a member of OTG since and can't imagine playing any MMO without them. Guild has a minimum age (so no kids) and the slogan is "Laid back, not too serious, no drama...all about the fun!" They do a little of everything from super casual to hardcore raiding with zero pressure (they'll even drag lowbies through a raid and then give them all the loot LOL). Perfect match for my play style. Crazy to think it's been 16 years since I joined them.

Guilds are definitely a mixed bag. I am in one solely for trading, but i do some social stuff occasionally with them. They have discord, but i can't keep up with all that goes on there so only socialize in game. The 'main' guild i am in, does not have a trader. It is purely for the social/learning side of things. We have a strong, but small core of players who run events several times a week. There are no minimum standars/dps checks etc. We are happy to impart any knowledge we have to anyone who asks. These guys are the bomb in my books. NecroMomma's rock!

I enjoy watching your videos & your humor makes them more interesting & enjoyable to watch (teabagging, millennial memes, laughing but dying in silence) best parts & the reasons why watch. BTW, if people don't like your humor they are just bitter. Also, your "roleplay" seems how people nowadays say sus! I would exceed to expect a hidden dungeon in your home or somewhere in Tamriel? Judging you in Spanish, from afar (side eye). Getting judged in Mexican hits differently. I also didn't know you spoke Spanish... I would also enjoy playing with a team & following a guild but my laptop doesn't have the requirements... I'm probably doing something wrong. I envy you all.

Sorry to hear about your laptop - I played on a potato laptop for like the first two years of my time on ESO and it was pretty rough, but I managed to still pvp and pve by setting my graphical settings to the absolute lowest possible settings I still only got like 20 frames tops, but that was enough to get vet HM trial clears ;p

@Arttea Wha! I am flabbergasted. No wonder in your previous video you had also put "breathes in Spanish". I thought you were just tossing in memes references to accommodate the situation. It's ok that's just the effect of being Mexican, we all do that when we don't know a certain word/s or we make one up. Great seeing that you are proud & show it, even if it's with memes. I'm going to speak to you in Spanish in your next video. I can launch the ESO. When creating a character, it sways, blinks & transitions to change outfits, but I can't go any further where I need to make a name. I'm dying inside... I bought it just not to be able to play...

Hi Arttea. I was wondering if there is an equivalent of TTS guild on PC EU? Anyway, I'm trying to figure out under what player category I fall. I play ESO for about 4 years now and I'm for sure a casual player with family, gym, work definitely higher on the life-list. I'm also very much a PVE solo player rarly joining a pug if I need to run some dungeon. Even more seldom I'm taking on PVP. With all that in mind, I often considered that while in the guild I can't contribute enough and simply "abusing" my membership - taking goods from the g.bank, fast travel, etc. It just didn't feel right regardless how silly that sounds :)

I’m part of a few guilds on ESO PS NA, but my favorite one is No Milk Drinkers. When I first joined I was pretty much the player that you highlighted in the video, a lone wolf quester who only wanted to sell shit in guild traders. But the guildies in No Milk Drinkers slowly wore on me and now I’m pretty social with a good portion of them and it’s a lot of fun. It’s more of a casual guild, not like one of my other ones which is a decent Trader Guild that gets a Vivec City guild trader weekly, but they have some people who are pretty knowledgeable and very willing to help you out and teach you, particularly if you’re a newer player or trying to improve. I’ve had a few run-ins with gatekeeping - one of the reasons why I hate pvp- and so this guild made the game a hell of a lot more accessible to me as someone who wasn’t very good starting out (I guess nobody is, but you know). I’m still not as active or interactive with my other guilds, but for the most part I haven’t had any issues guildwise in a while, and everyone in all of my guilds are friendly very helpful.
@Arttea
@Arttea Год назад
I can definitely relate to the whole "gatekeeping" issue that happens in some guilds. I myself dealt with a lot of it back when I still PvE-ed regularly. I was playing a stamina nightblade during a PvE meta that heavily favoured mag DPS, and a lot of raid groups would not accept me in light of this, despite my ability to meet dps requirements, survive, and complete mechanics. This is something that bothered me quite a bit, but fortunately, I managed to find a group of friends that could vouch for my competence in PvE and that helped me get into some groups. Because of these experiences, I seek to create inclusive events in my guild myself - ones where everyone is welcome to join, regardless of their level, build, or experience. Thanks for sharing your experiences and for recommending a PS NA guild
@troysheridan8433
@troysheridan8433 Год назад
@@Arttea I’ve found that the gatekeeping issue (in my experience) has been more around trials and pvp. Hell it’s why I really don’t like pvp even though I really would like to get into it. Newer players or those less experienced in these group-ish events (the lone wolves like me) get shut out either because they don’t know the mechanics of a trial, or with PvP just get insta-killed in Cyrodil and don’t know how to improve. And many people just don’t have the patience to teach them how xyz differs from regular PvE content. It’s sad and frustrating.

i'm a solo roleplayer when it comes to questing and adventure through tamriel with my snow elf or imperial by myself (with the snow elf, i play in 1st person and even set my status to offline and minimise zone chat so no one can interrupt my IMMERSIVE ROLEPLAY). but i love being in guilds and run lore-based social events for the one i'm an officer in. it can definitely take a while to find a guild you vibe with though, and i can understand why people would be put off by joining another guild if they've had bad experiences in one. i felt like that after experiencing homophobia in a guild and seeing how the guildmaster and officers just didn't care about it at all; it really soured me on joining another guild for a while. now i'm a member of a dedicated roleplaying guild that runs a ton of events, a trading guild with easy-to-meet reqs, and 3 guilds that do a little bit of everything but are relaxed enough to allow me to engage with their activities on my own terms and time. i would never have gotten involved with pvp if it weren't for guild events, and i still remember being asked to join last minute to heal vSS (my first ever vet trial!) and the thrill of completing it successfully with the other guild members. i loved this video! kind of gave me the warm fuzzies thinking about the eso communities i'm a part of and that i've made such good memories with.

I was also reluctant to join a guild first because I didn't want to feel socially responsible to anyone or to any social system they might have. It's a game after work for me and I had no resources to be part of any possible social events the guilds might have. However, guilds mostly don't expect much of you, or well anything at all. I'm in two top trading guilds of vvardenfell now and keeping up with the sales isn't difficult at all at this point. Sure it took a while to get there but eventually you don't have to put much effort in it. I rarely participate in social events but when I have it's always been fun. Like Arttea said, it opens up a lot of potential resources for players to use to get forward in the game. Playing alone essentially blocks a lot of aspects of the game. So I also recommend people to join guilds and not be too afraid of social accountability. Furthermore, at least the guilds I am in are quite neat and there isn't any drama or offensive comments in the guild chat and I think this is the general social atmosphere of the game overall.

Most of the time I only joined a guild to use a trader, but other than that, I never found any use for them. I completed all the dungeon hard modes, just with people from my friends list or randoms. Maybe that was because of my timezone, but most guilds were never active when I was online

The PVE/PVP guilds always pushing for higher and higher dps, never enough always not good enough. The trader guilds always pushing for higher and higher profits, even one session of not making a sale resulting in expulsion. The RP guilds always pushing for increasingly depraved plots. After a while I just said screw it, glad to see some people still get a kick out of that scene however. You have a good style and flow to your videos 👍

Hi! Im a solo Pve player, and i don't understand very much how Hard Mode dungeons works. I've only done normal and veteran dungeons, but when people talk about the "HM Vet dungeons" I just don't know exactly what they are talking about...
@Arttea
@Arttea Год назад
Hey! The final encounter of all veteran dungeons can be completed normally or on the "Hard Mode" difficulty. For the most part, the "hard mode" is engaged when a member of the party interacts with a glowing hard mode scroll or some other object that is laying around by the entrance of the final boss encounter. When the hard mode is turned on, the bosses gain more health and may introduce different mechanics that are meant to challenge the players and provide a more difficult experience. The nice thing about completing the dungeon on the veteran hard mode difficulty is that, if it is a DLC dungeon, you are guaranteed a motif drop (provided the motif is even available - some of the motifs for the newest dungeons are not yet out). Running a dungeon on the normal difficulty will not have a hard mode option.

I think a lot of that derived from being a long time elder scrolls player and feeling like MMO was pushed on me. however, it has been a great experience to play multiplayer with my friends and family, and I chose to join pretty casual trading guilds that are great groups. I would definitely recommend sticking your toe in the pool if you haven't already, and all of the tips in this video are very helpful! Edit: I never have spoken a word in any of my guilds, so its totally doable. A tip I would add is looking for guilds that are LGBTQ+ friendly and more adult focused. What I really *want* to do is find an RP guild that's a good fit and join that, but I don't know if I can commit the time to a guild's roster of scheduled activities. I'd rather use it to just meet other players who RP and do that in small groups. I think a lot of people play ESO solo, because they come from single-player games like Skyrim and Oblivion, like myself. ESO has a lot of solo content and a lot of lore that extends on the lore of the rest of the Elder Scrolls series. I wouldn't consider myself active in the game I play since beta and have the game on ps4 and pc. I believe I am around 1000 cp but don't really remember. I usually buy the new chapter DLC play through it go inactive and wait for the next. Although I do like some multiplayer content from time to time and I am in a trade guild. Another MMO type of game I am actually in a really active guild so it is not like I don't like the social aspect at all. Maybe also an EU thing but I think it is slightly more difficult to find a guild with like-minded people since there are a lot of people that don't speak English and I usually don't like joining up with people that speak my own language. In my experience Dutch guilds are usually young toxic children or people that are very "conservative" and just refuse to speak another language.

The community is friendly to the point you get free werewolf and vamp bites easily if you ask. Changing the subject; I was devastated when they took away capture the flag and other game modes. Perma deathmatch was not a good idea on their part. Kinda made me want to join a pvp guild with how bad that was. although I will still avoid guilds unless I find one that isn't gun hoo on anything, meaning pronoun crap or other unsettling talk like kitten. If you join my community discord server and then assign yourself the "guildie" role in the role-assign channel, you will have access to the guild-specific category of channels. You can then drop your username in the invite-pls channel and an officer will send you an invite at their earliest convenience!

I have done both and one thing I have not cared for in the Guilds is you can donate, sell item and money but when the Guilds have raffles surprise, surprise it's always the friends of the Guild that win never random guild members 💯🤣🤣🤣

I run a guild so I can comment on this - oftentimes the "friends of the guild" are the most active players of the guild, right? These gamers usually donate SIGNIFICANTLY more gold than the rest of the guildies, so it is just statistically very likely that they win a prize. In my guild, for example, the average gold donation for our raffles is around 50kish. Some guild regulars frequently donate several million gold to the raffles each week. So it's no surprise that they win fairly frequently.

@@Arttea Maybe there should be a raffle with a lesser pot for the peasants like me and the one for the rich that way everyone has a chance. I do understand your point though.

@@targetedtruthfinder yeah that’s not a bad idea! What I try to do is include a lot of prizes, that way even when the big donators all inevitably win something, there are still some prizes left and up for grabs for the other guildies!

I started playing with my bf so I never thought I'd need a guild but he stopped playing and it gets lonely sometimes so I've been considering it but I'm also afraid of being rejected from a guild cause I'm lame 😂

Just a little feedback if I may, the sound effect you use to beep obscene words is very unpleasant to the ear due to its nature. It's like using graphical artifacts as a transition effect between video clips. Even though I kinda got used to it at this point, I still subconsciously think of a badly connected headphone jack or something when I hear it.

Sorry about that! It’s a pretty prevalent noise that is used in a lot of the videos that I enjoy watching, so I use it as well. I take measures to ensure that it’s volume is proportionate to the rest of the audio on the track, but I can definitely see how it might still come off as an ugly sound haha

90% of the ESO guilds have no requirements at all and are super friendly. I think that those players that are scared of them are intimidating themselves and imagine the fear of guilds in their own heads (despite of bad experience which could happen).On PC NA I haven't seen any elitist guilds to be honest. Some of the trading ones indeed have some funny requirements of 200k sales or 20k weekly donation but that's like 1/4 price of perfect roe which you can get from fishing at level 1. The elitist DPS guilds I skipped those and just learned to solo 4man vet hm dungeons. I think you can do anything in this game if you just WANT to and that's it.

So, I do & don't belong to guilds. For trading, I belong to one of the most successful trading guilds on Xbox NA (consistent Mournhold trader). It's very quiet and not a social hub. Socially, I started with a group of older gamers long ago (including a friend with whom I've been gaming now for maybe 12 years) and continued on in the game kind of with this mission, I guess, of preparing for everybody's eventual return when their other gaming titles eventually dried up & folks moved on. But, as friends do, focus shifted in different directions, so nowadays I'm gaming alone. My friend who plays has returned 3 or 4 times for brief periods, playing catch-up, with 1 or 2 year breaks in-between. My experience has been very "first 30 minutes of Wall-E", for a long time, "preparing the guild bank", farming resources and gold for general use, developing my main as a high level crafter since just after the start of the Morrowind DLC until present. I've tried connecting socially elsewhere, only to have 3 very bad experiences, 2 involving other people's drama impacting my gameplay, and a third that involved a group of "nice people" that turned out to, I guess secretly at first, be quite racist -- they didn't pick up on my background because of my accent or, from their perspective, lack thereof. I quit that group very abruptly when one guild member started making comments one day and the other guildies either tacitly agreed or offered no push-back when I went to the GM, defending the comment-maker. So, I left. The experience of having someone casually advancing some pretty heinous views while, say, simultaneously preaching "no politics!" has been pretty common in my experience as a gamer. In my established group usually it would manifest itself as someone fun but without a lot of sense inviting unknowns into our group to complete content (e.g. when we'd raid in Destiny 1 and needed fills), that person being "cool" at first & then casually dropping a bomb without a second thought, probably because everybody sounded a certain way in chat. So, yeah, that's my story. I do wish I had enough of a group to avoid things like group finder & not having to solo-farm gear & whatnot. I frequently think about quitting, but ESO is an easy part of the routine and has its moments (I'm that guy you see out there e.g. solo-ing the Southern Elsweyr Dragons in off hours & whatnot). Thanks for making a vid on this topic, Arttea.
