One of the best videos on Guillermo's tricks out there. As a southpaw, I may have found a solution to one of my orthodox sparring partners who likes taking the lead foot dominant position. It's in this video.

Rigondeaux's style is so technical, i love it.. great video.. the loma v rigo fight is going to be epic tactical warfare. I just think its terrible how the industry treats rigondeaux though, opponents near his weightclass have pretty much blackballed him, & apparently if he loses, they're stripping him of his belt @122 even though the fight is 2 weight classes higher

I totally agree and think it's absolutely criminal to deny one of the best boxing talents in a long time and unfortunately, he won't be revered in history because of this. Really sad to see LSC, Frampton, Mares hijacking the belt with their round-robin rematches.

Loma vs Rigo should be a decent fight. Loma will most likely win though...younger, bigger, much more active in the ring. Mechanically comparable. Doesn’t take as many dumb chances. People want to hate on Loma because of his one loss to a decent fighter in Low Blow Salido, but at the same time will ignore Rigo getting knocked down multiple times throughout his career by fighters who are a half notch above tomato cans (sure he wins the fights...but putting yourself in those situations against a great fighter like Loma won’t fly).

Hey Johnny, have you ever done a video how and when to use the clinch? Or whatever you want to call it: tying people up, muscling them, holding and turning them. I'm brand new to sparring and it seems like such a useful technique that doesn't really get taught in classes.

Clip was nice first, but really sad to see there are so many ways of grabbing that should be prevented by rules. That square up thing he does when inside foot, can it be varied so that he just circle back-left? That way would be very hard for opponent to know.

interesting video. but while some of those things might work under any circumstances. if you have enough experience. the part about him lowering his head and just waiting for an opponent while giving his back to his opponent that might work in pure boxing but it will be all but suicidal in MMA. as far as the first strategy I think this might work which is good for me because this means I would have another trick up my sleeve something that opponent might not expect. however I noticed that even you when you were doing this move yourself your lead leg was at the same position or even slightly outside your opponents lead leg despite you moving towards your left. And this is the right way to do it in my opinion because no matter what if your opponent is too far outside of you you are in almost always in disadvantageous position. and the reason why the move you showed works is because despite you moving to his inside your leg is not really inside his or at least not deep inside at the time of the actual hit. also as far as this sideways stance. there are advantages and disadvantages to it. in a pure boxing this is the way you want to stand because it gives you good mobility, range and makes you small target. but in sport that involves kicking you can get your legs kicked out from under you relatively easily this way. now as far as this stance in southpaw vs orthodox this is a great way to stand if you once again your lead leg is outside of his lead leg. because then you are far away from both his rear leg and even if he can reach you with it its easier to block. and his lead leg is useless. yours is not. and you have great mobility. also if you are both standing in this position but you are outside you are in better position to deliver punches than he is and you can deliver a devastating lead leg pendulum kick right behind his knee while he can't do the same to you even though you are both in same stance precisely because you are outside oh him. as far as the first move you shown. that might actually be a great move. but once again just because you are moving to opponent's inside that does not mean your lead leg is to his inside and you are generally outside of him during the final hit. but still done correctly it is a great move.

Hey i just subscribed to your channel and i know you are a boxing trainer but i've been training kickboxing for a while now and i started to wonder if the gym is any good. We do 2 times a week sparring with different people for up to 10 rounds and most people are with 10 oz gloves because more oz ''protects the guy with the bigger gloves not the opponent'' and it's suitable for amateur competition. It's not specific type of sparring so it basicly depends on the people's mood if it's gonna be full contact sparring or hit point sparring, wich for me atleast makes it weird because i don't know what to do and i don't realy like that mental gymnastics - either hit point sparring or full contact sparring, if it's not said what type of sparring it is it's kinda confusing for me. We do 2 times a week technique, wich is basicly practising the punches and kicks kinda like in martial arts, but we don't do any mitt training, we all do the same type of training ( people that train for alot longer and people that train for like 5 months) and i feel like every combination, punch and kicks in my head is just in full chaos or combinations that just don't make lots of sense, maybe because there is no mitt training. The trainer basicly encourages the students to train with the gear that will be used in competition matches, wich i think is a little retarded. To use that gloves / shin protectors for sparring, sometimes heavy bag and for competitions doesn't make alot of sense. 1 day a week the same type of conditioning physical training over and over. I've also watched the people that complete in matches how they train. 2 times a day, basicly the same with more heavy bag and one other workout called ''300'' wich is very hard so i've heard, because you do some things including push ups, sit ups, working the stomach for time stamps making it to 100 or so i've heard (it's not like that but i don't remember exactly what it is) the problem is, one guy was 17 and the other 21 with the 17 training for 4 years and the 21 training for like 10 or 11 years, yet they do the same exercises when they will need different things to develop and again no mitt training. there are people that are pretty good from my perspective in the gym to be honest, including the 21 year old wich is very good but i don't know if that happened because of that trainer or that training or simply the time and effort put into it played it's part. Doubting in your trainer and his training methods is EXTREMELY DEMOTIVATING so i just want to know the truth. there was other kickboxing trainer at the place i am but there was like no sparring and no conditioning with him at all, people go and die at competition in his gym and leave and he pretends to be expert at 205978209578 martial arts... with is simply BS. maybe i should switch to boxing, but i don't know if it will be much better, but i won't know untill i try. But i realy want to know if this type of training sounds good to you - unspecified 10 rounds sparring for 2 days, no mitt training, same type of physical workout, people on completely different level doing the same things, 10 oz for everything, he also likes some other things better than the hand wraps i think it was called jell something... and the technique is so good that most people don't know a single combination and it's basicly chaos in the brain/ muscle memory, trying to land single shots but forget that, that might be because i'm still not good enough. What realy makes me hesitate is the same type of training for different people, no mitts, unspecified close to 10 round sparring rounds for 2 days a week. Also there is no real ring, please i need to hear your opinion, i hope i'm the dumb one here because if i'm not i may have to switch to hole different sport.

Who you picking loma or rigo ?
@expertboxing
@expertboxing 7 лет назад
Loma is the easy for me because of size and age. And also because Rigo has been down before. Had they been the same size and same age, I'd pick Rigo.
@dakota1014
@dakota1014 7 лет назад
expertboxing fair enough . I kinda agree but I wouldn't say loma is the easy pick I think it's about a 55 - 45 fight with a slight edge to loma due to weight advantage . I don't care too much for rigo being knocked down before because loma doesn't have crazy power imo it's like his only weakness really , he doesn't knock guys out he just beats the will out them which is sort of more impressive lol
@expertboxing
@expertboxing 7 лет назад
The weight is a huge deal. 8lbs between 160 and 168 is big. 8lbs apart at the smaller weight classes (122 to 130) is gigantic. At the smaller weight, it's like going from 147 to 160. Not only that but Rigo is a small 122; I think he can still make 118...he's only at 122 to get fights. Loma on the other hand is already talking about 136 and you can see his body will probably grow just a tiny bit more. And then there's age, which does matter. I'm not saying it's an easy win for Loma but I have to pick him because of the advantages in his favor.
@dakota1014
@dakota1014 7 лет назад
expertboxing yeah I think loma is probably the safer bet ,will be interesting to see how rigos power carries up . Can't wait for December though it's been a great year for boxing .

@skotiskiller 7 лет назад
Please if you do one for GGG dont forget to include the proper punching style that he has (and most of the boxers from the ex Warsaw Pack countries have) because of his excellent amateur background.The way he connects with most of his punches and the way he puts his body behind his shots/snaps his shoulders, he even throw the hook with the palm horizontally to the floor to land with the knuckles all the time.He is the cleanest boxer out there.It is important cause many guys especially in USA don't appreciate clean boxing ,they are too used to landing with the wrist or slapping.

That step-to-the-left technique is effective. I did it as a slip to an orthodox right. Then fired a left cross that landed flush. It looks dangerous to use though against the orthdox jab: as southpaw lands the left foot, orthodox right will be coming in (if he did a 1-2). Can still be avoided with a duck under the right cross.
