So I’ve been searching for the follow up video to this one where you use the mice to catch the rats, and I can’t find it, did it get deleted off RU-vid or something?
I second this. If you, Shawn, are going to make a trap, it is appreciated if you show us the steps of making it. Thanks for showing us how you made it!
@@kristaj428I know, but I don't think he gets reported for making the trap, more like due the footage (brain dead people if you asked me... come on it's a **** trap for a mouse, what can people expect coming here? an amusement park for mouses? ).
You can actually see the mouse barely escape in the last two frames before it cuts off (you can see this by using < or > keys while pause on 11:09 to move frame by frame)!
On the mousetrap monday website, you can see that the mouse on the right's head stopped the blade from coming down on the left mouse, so it was only a single kill.
Shawn, you went above and beyond the line of duty making this mouse trap. The is a lot of work involved in making this trap so I hope that people appreciate it.

This was the best video you've bade I think, seeing all the work that went into making the trap was really interesting and I hope you make more like this.
@@markwillams420 yeah I have seen pretty much every video he has made. His earlier videos where he made survival traps are great as well as all the archery and wild edible videos. I really like the videos where he would recreate the items found along side Otzi and the Canadian ice man. I have even commented asking him to do more videos like them again, lol.
@@markwillams420 Thanks for letting me know about them anyways. Hopefully other people who have not seen his old videos will see your comment about them and will be inspired to watch them.
I watched the uncensored video on his website. I was expecting it to be gory, but I didn't see a single drop of blood. This one isn't as humane as the standard snap traps because it took a while for the mice to actually die in this particular trap. I think it's more like the Halifax Gibbet than a guillotine :P
I agree, his voice is half the reason I watch. Sometimes I let the video play in the background on my iPad while I race Real Racing 3. Shawn's super calm soft voice relaxes me and eases my chronic anxiety.
10:46 uper right screen Mouse1: hmm suspicious let’s investigate more Mouse2: (whispers i know how it works chuckles) Mouse1: hey sto... Mouse to get Kim Kardashian
It's great to see some of your handiwork again! the montage was very interesting and soothing. Would love to see more historical hunting and trap-making when hunting season begins.
He addressed this in an earlier video if you would watch it, he uses vimeo for videos on his website and recently his vimeo channel was banned, ergo it doesn’t show up on his website
I could not help but notice that some of the guillotine traps you showed as examples have springs made from the hammer spring for a muzzloader rifle or musket! They must truly be very old
You know what your channel has taught me? That no matter what we do, we're going to be fighting rodent infestations forever, just as we have done, since forever. I really liked the longer, more in depth video that showed some of the techniques of the build. As an aside, I'm personally fine with the RU-vid edits, I don't care to see anything die, especially if it is not instant. I keep reptiles and live on a farm, so I understand that it's just part of life sometimes, but I'm a softie and avoid it. Thank you for putting in the work and testing all this stuff for us.
@@bryanjosue4237 thankyou for your wording i do agree with you but if i follow your logic humans are a plaque on humans should we be able to kill humans too? We used to believe animals were automatons (not robots btw look it up) we later agreed that animals are capable of feeling emotions and they show social behavior among their own species so saying we are more doesn't sound very smart my man we don't know what they truly think you don't even know what a diffrent person thinks let alone do the same for animals don't feel special because of your intellegence it seems the most destructive property of us humans
Just a tip for metal working, the hottest part of the flame is not actually right where it begins, it's at the tip of the bright blue inner cone of the flame. Place your metal at the end of that cone to heat it faster.
Nice job on the woodworking! I really enjoyed seeing how you built this! I love the part where you were talking about an explaining wood burls! Great job 👍👌
Don't let the criticism get to you brother, i really like your videos. Also just know genuine people like you are rare, your the kind of person that this world needs more of.
You should add another one of those retentions brackets at the end of the blade to prevent the blade from bending away from the trap leaving a gap for the mouses head, forcing an inhumane death upon it.
I love your vids I think since you trap so many different species of animals you should try to make your own trap for every animal that you’ve trapped on your RU-vid channel
Very interesting and impressive how you managed to recreate this trap. You could probably sell them as reproductions. Even if you just supplied people with a “kit” to build themselves. Great job anyways.
That vintage style trap you made is awesome. Definitely worth a pretty penny. How long do you think it took you to make it? 5 hours, 10 hours, or more? I'm super curious.
Blank is correct. It’s a woodworking/metalworking term used to refer to a piece of stock that has only been sized on the exterior to rough dimensions, and has not yet been machined into its final form.
Question..? How does one know if the traps a really from the past in the claimed time periods.. because anything being sold can be likely manufactured to look like it’s from Centuries ago. So really the prices are really a scam. Not just a ripoff
Radiocarbon dating. It's not the most accurate analysis, but it's more than enough to show you whether it's modern or made five centuries ago. Other methods include looking for a particulate compound that's been heavily used during that time period (uranium was used in glass in early 20th century, for example) or, inversely, searching for a compound that's not been synthesised until recently. Fabricating resources to fool the tests is most often than not going to cost you more than the scam is going to net you.
Hey Shawn Don’t let the bad comments bring you down. You are doing a great job. Take the good to heart, and just let the nasty find it’s way back home.
I love the look of linseed oil on wood. It's best to use cotton rags for application and once finished store rags in full sun near something airy like a woodshed.
That cherry burl is a MONSTER. I live in Maine and we have a fair amount of paper birches (as well as other kinds of birch) and I’ve been looking for a good sized burl for a while and it is SHOCKINGLY hard to find one. I swear to god before I started looking for one I saw them everywhere but now that I’m on the hunt they have proved shockingly elusive
佐藤 - Satō they actually do learn. If you put a mouse trap down and the other mice see a dead mouse they’ll know that suspicious contraption with some food on it is bad and stay away from it. That’s why typically mouse traps don’t work for very long, mice learn from the deaths of their comrades and avoid traps.
