Guillow Piper Cub RC Conversion Part 2
The Guillow Piper Cub kit is an excellent candidate to build and convert to RC (radio control) flight using the 0.5 ounce ParkZone electronic brick.
In my earlier video, I take you step by step for a conversion of this Guillow Piper Cub kit to radio control flight, to include tips on how to reduce the weight and using lightweight iron-on covering:
• Guillow Piper Cub RC C...
The first variant of the Cub did not have sufficient nose weight for the proper center of gravity location. For this video and a second set of flight trials, I added a bit more nose weight and the CG is now correct.
I also removed the wing struts so I could ensure that the wings were warp free. I took out a bit of motor right thrust, as I do not think this is needed for the lightweight electric motor system. I reduced the rudder throw a bit to try and forestall spiral turns.
The second set of flights did not go exceptionally well, although there was a quite nice flight at the end.
In summary, with the smaller RC Guillow kit conversions, sometimes "Gremlins" creep in. I do not have a clear answer as to why this Cub does not fly properly, but sometimes this is the outcome of a build of this nature.
