This recording and the entire album on one of the world's most wonderful organs is extremely wonderful and a must have for all organ music lovers. Ben van Oosten does it so well.
This splendor organ performance hopefully did not blow the stone vaulting through the roof of this truly magnificent abbey church. Wow to both music and architecture; wow.
French limestone (from Caen?), magnificent architecture, the Catholic Church, Alexandre Guilmant, Aristide Cavaille Coll and Ben van Ooosten, Thankyou for beautiful music brought together in this place. From half way around the world, I wish I could be there.
Am I allowed to say that this makes me weep? Well it does. When the tuba 8 footer comes on at 7:59, from then on to the end I'm a bit of a wreck. And that modulation to E flat and the way it resolves back to C? Magical.
The organ at St Ouen is a tracker, I believe...the console is at the base of the organ facade. I was fortunate enough to visit a few years ago while a concert was ongoing. Extraordinary!
I feel the need to clean the dust from this magnificent organ. So sad organs in France are badly maintained. I'm glad that the famous organs in the Netherlands are still in good shape, but they are a dying breed... It's very expensive to maintain them and less people admire these instruments and see its (historic) value.
