Today was spent installing truss rods and gluing the fingerboards on, before finding the hardware that I'm going to use and checking the designs to make sure we're not going to run into problems later.
Is the trussrod anchored at both sides of the channel? I'm working on my first guitar build and I haven't heard of anything like that but my father insists on it being having to be anchored on both sides in the wood. He has no experience as a guitar builder either but he is good with physics I don't really understand what he's getting at and I don't see it in your video either but maybe I'm just dumb.
He's talking about a single action truss rod where 1 length of steel braces against the wood in the neck and only operates one way. I use dual action rods because they brace themselves against a second length of steel and can operate in both directions. Hope that helps.
So do you cut the truss rod slot just deep enough so that when the rod is in the slot, the top of the rod is flush with the wood, and other than the tape, there is no gap between the top of the rod and the bottom of the fret board? Thanks
The entire point of the masking tape is to stop glue seeping into the truss rod slot, why would you remove it? That would cause far far greater problems than a tiny thin piece of tape under the fretboard.
