I agree 👍 Voodoo is definitely one of Tony's best riffs. He has so many great ones, but Voodoo is special.

It's ironic to me that this album, and the preceding one, "Heaven and Hell" is where Tony really began to solidify his sound and style. Some of the middle-era Ozzy albums had him all over the map, style-wise, but the albums with Dio really gave him a direction that would continue into the 90's with his Tony Martin-era albums...unfortunately, no one but the die-hards were listening then... shame, because there's a lot of stellar guitar work on Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, and Cross Purposes...

Great tutorial and well explained. The Mob Rules album is full of awesome songs. Too many RU-vid channels just cover the Ozzy era and ignore Dio except for 3 or 4 of the most popular songs. But views drive content creators. It is great to see you tackling these lost gems. Keep up the great work.

Such a badass riff. Tony's sound was so frickin awesome. His guitar/amp had such a "snap" or "punch" on this song.

Great lesson for one of the greatest opening rhythms riffs in rock history. Up there with Stay With Me by Ronnie Wood and the Faces.

It is absolutely my favorite Black Sabbath riff, one of Tony's best for sure! And Tony is really attacking the harmonic with his pick, it almost sounds like a pinch harmonic at times during his studio performance, especially on the opening roll into the riff. And he repeats that through the entire song. That's the "extra something" most players miss. Add Dio's almost supernatural vocals to it and WOW! The song is of course a rant against organized religion, "say you don't love me you'll burn".

I discovered your channel only recently and now it's one of my favorites. I recently watched your video where you told the story of your guitar journey and I can really relate. I'm thinking we're close to the same age and had similar journeys, although it sounds like you had more club experience than I did. I too took a long break from guitar after my first son was born in 91. I picked it up again around 2007 when my son showed interest as well as when I heard DT and John Petrucci for the first time. Now I try to play every day although I still don't get as much play time as I'd like. Anyway, your content is great and I look forward to your videos. Rock on brother!

Loved the vid!!! Subscribed after one watch!! Absolutely GREAT riff by one of the masters of rhythm guitar. In the same vein, the riff from Seventh Star, IMO is another frequently overlooked and under-appreciated riff. Keep up the great content!!!

I’m pretty sure the entire main riff is played at the 5th fret position. I don’t think you end the riff at the A power chord at the second fret. If you listen closely, he’s ending the riff with the A Octive at the 7th fret.

Oh man... I long ago forgot how heavy this song is! 🤯🤘 Also, can we talk about how MUCH Geezer truly contributes to the best of Sabbath? Absolutely duo, these guys! And don't even get me started on Ozzy and Ward! But Dio made one hell of a contribution too! heaven and hell and mob rules are the best albums of their decade by a LOT haha

I didn't care for the Live Evil version at all. It was extremely rushed, and Dio badly screwed up the vocals and lyrics. Overall the recording and mixing on the album were just awful.

Ozzie prefers riffs for choruses and chords for verses. Dio preferred riffs for verses as well. Thank you so much for this, I’ve been wanting to get this right for years but something was always off. One note - at the very top of the song, there is a hammer on during the first chug, no? That’s the way I hear it. Maybe he only did it that first time.

I just have to say it. Trying to body modify your own fingers up to sound like Tony Iommi is a bad idea kids. I know Tony Iommi (He doesn't know me) and it's taken him years to adapt to being malfingered (no offence). So let's try to be a little more careful not to injure ourselves opening those packages... If you catch my drift.

Simple and Tony Iommi should not be used in the same sentence. "Simply banging out power cords." Really now! Show some respect to the God Father of Metal.
