Batman And Robin ....It must be a zen thing between the two of them...or Mike is the one who gives him the list the night before and Mark stays up all night learning the songs. That explains why he looks wasted all the time...lol

Watching again 5 years later. I miss Mark. I am in Tokyo where I have picked up a sweet MIJ Jazz Bass. Didn't look too closely until I got back to the hotel to realise it has a slab board. Sharing this vid to a mate to explain why that's cool.

I disagree. Way too many winds so you don't get that beautiful strat bell like tone that strats need. I'm guessing mrs. Ybarra was busy chatting with her boyfriend and kinda lost count when she was winding those pups.

Not at all, brother. I can't carry a tune in a bucket, nor can I even hold a guitar and just make noise with it. I'm tone-deaf and have a bit of nerve damage and palsy in my hands, so no music at all. I still watch every freakin' day.

That makes sense, really. The whole presentation is cool. They open the vintage case, tell the story behind the model etc. It's definitely fun to watch even if you're not a guitar player

I just wanted to say I'm really glad he played Soul to Squeeze from the Coneheads movie. Not many people would realize that songs from a movie. I love the video too with the Conehead walking around the Carnival...lol

Great looking guitar, of course. The slab boards are a little different from earlier and later Strats. Usually the necks are noticeably narrower. I had a 1960 Strat that with my big hands I literally could not play comfortably at all; though the guts were among the very best pickups I've ever owned. There were also some instances of lower build quality in that 60-62 era. Looser neck joints, sometimes worse factory frets. Some 1960ish Fender guitars (not just Strats) had the serial number stamped in the neck plate upside down, my 1960 4998x was upside down.

When I got my '63 in '69 it was way more worn than this one..The way to get the old green guards to not crack is to back off the screws and gently re tighten them. The problem there is as long as you're in there you might as well add switches (pickup, phase) and add a couple holes. I felt I was a newcomer to Fender but looking back I think I did OK. Mine does look good in blonde but if reliced was a thing back then I'd have had the hippest Strat. It's a "player" but it's still the real thing. I have MIMs and a Classic Vibe but I have the luxury of feeling that it's not really a Stratocaster unless Leo was working there.

And that is why everybody wants pre-CBS Strats (just in case you didn't know.) Notice how each pickup sounds distinctly different from the others. Just to feel sorry for myself I listened to the noiseless pickups in my Mexican strat (which truth be told is a serviceable instrument) and there is a world of difference. I would be happy to put up with the noise if they sounded like that. If only my ship would come in...

Fender really started putting rosewood on their guitar fretboards through the Jazzmaster model, which was released in 1958, Fender wanted one more ''high end'' image for their new model, so they added rosewood to their Jazzmaster. From there, in 1959 they began to put it on other models such as Stratocaster and Telecaster since before they were all maple
