What an absolutely gorgeous instrument.

The thing about these dreadnoughts is that the volume of resonant sound relative to percussive sound is so high - that is, the sound is much less the rattle of pick on strings than it is strings resonating into the wood of the body and transmitting a fuller warmer tone. I was raised on midrange, this ax is heaven in my book. And Mark's tickling deserves fan mail!

It is a lovely cherry. And yep, the way instruments become their own thing... just magic.

Again, oh my. Prayers for the fellow battling the big c. It ain't over, I've been thru that #$%@&. These shows lift my spirits, well I best not not drinking em right now. Do you guys have the simple flattop Friday shirts? I see the the more elaborate ones& they are neat. I like the simple ones, but I ll get over it. My hummer has aged nicely. She doesn't have that deep cherry look, but she has a really warm glow. She hasn't left the house in 21+ yrs. Prior to that, she didn't leave my over house for , well quite a while, Some of my sons' buds are players, & when they come over (usususlly on weekends @ dinnertime) they want to play her. It's all good though. I Think that's part of the cycle of life. Yes, some stories. Dogs & babies & bottles & guitars, they dont end on a high note. I hope that instrument gets a good home. She's a beauty. Hopefully Jen keeps up the whew hoos.

Since you do shout outs, maybe you could wish me a happy 62nd bday on Straturday. I gotta say, those who don't get the fact everything you show us is rare just don't understand how few of these older guitars are still around. I watch everyday, and Sunday and Monday suck since I've gone back and watched every episode. Oh yeah, can you get Jen to put her face on camera to wish me happy birthday, she's so much cuter than you bro. No offence, lol.

I know Gibson guitars fairly well, but I never knew they used plastic bridges. Then, twice in the same day I see YT vids featuring them. Uncanny... Stew-Mac Dan-Erliwine how-to vid on replacing the plastic P.O.S. with a proper rosewood bridge, matching the fingerboard. Kind of bonehead change at the Kalamazoo factory no doubt brought on by short sighted penny pinching number crunchers.

I almost got a Hummingbird in reissue (with a pickup) back in 2005. Would’ve cost me less than $2,000 before tax. Went with a Moog synthesizer instead. Been playing since ten years before then, and no Gibson guitar has entered my collection. Naturally, the first song is “Wild Horses”.

The end of Gibson is the saddest song. Look at that pick guard. Pure art.

Where can we get the T-shirt? :) (1963 was the year I got my first guitar... Stella, not a Hummingbird. But, I was only 8. Did get a used Dove in 73)

I hate to say it, but these old Gibsons sound far better than old Martins, at least the dozens of them that I've heard.

Original tuners were the only let down. They looked great but were toast after 10 years or so (unless you didn't play it, I guess). Replaced my originals with Grovers in '72 and they're still working great.
