I bought one of these when they first came out. Exact color. I traded it for a 5 string because it wasn't "metal" enough. After I matured a bit, I lamented my great error. So, 1999 rolls around and I'm trying to replace what I once had, but did not know until it was gone; tone. I walk into my local guitar store and there was my bass. I know it was mine, because I had painted the knobs with different colored glow in the dark paint. It was my intention to put a bass on layaway that day. Turns out, this bass was on consignment. No layaway. I gave the salesman $80 to hold it and ran out to pawn as much shit as I could to get the rest of the cash. When I got back to the store, the salesman was gone, the bass was gone and I had no receipt. I eventually got my $80 back after some threats of severe bodily harm, but I never got my bass. I recently woke from a fevered dream and realized this is the missing piece of my life and immediately began looking for one of these.

... hate to be a nerdy nerd, but i'm pretty sure Mark got that blend knob backwards. The first tone was the bridge/jazz bass position, and it sounds a little wimpy played with a pick when compared to the neck/precision position. But probably pretty cool doing that Jaco thing fingerstyle. --- and the advantage of a blend knob instead of a 3-way toggle is that when you want that bridge Jaco thing but with a bit of P-bass rumble, having both pickups equal doesn't do it... you need to roll back the precision pickup a little bit. (ther, now i'm definitely going full on nerd).

Mark sold me my 09 deluxe jazz bass. Well, not really, I was sold before I walked in the store, but it was cool to meet him and get the bass I wanted. I was able to talk him down from 1100 to 900. Way legit. He threw in a cord and a T-shirt to seal the deal. Love the store and wish i had scads of dollars to spend there.

Back in '95, I was looking for a new bass and I remember trying out a P-Bass that looked very "modern" and not at all like a P-Bass. I've been trying to remember the specific model name for years and as soon as I saw the thumbnail and title for this episode, I knew that was it. From what I recall, it was ok, but fortunately I checked out a different store and found the Bass Collection fretless that's still my main bass today.

Hey! That's my exact bass (colour and all)! Have the original receipt for it (somewhere). Bought it around 1990 - they sold like hotcakes when first released in Australia and it was difficult to even get an instrument to try out. It's my 'go to' bass. Bought it for the weight (I was used to playing my 67 Hofner 500/1 B...another really beautiful bass) and the Fender 'sound'. Unfortunately, it never came with the original hardshell case.

First one came out in the 1980's not 1992 (Wikipedia shows 1984?). Mine was made and bought new in 1989 "Made in Japan" S/N J036856. Pearl white body. Jazz pickup on these being single coil can be noisy however a Bartolini hum cancelling pickup i.e. 9CBJD or 9J-L1 fits straight in with no wood working required and fixes any noise problem. No sore shoulder after a three hour pub gig! Only con is no switching between active and passive which is a bitch when battery goes flat because back is held by four screws, not a clip in cover which would have been so easy.

Still own a 1998 nickel hardware / no colour-clean headstock version of this bass... Bass is very light on body (basswood) and needs support on the left hand, tend to fall to the left. Also the slimed contour helps this. I don't like and almost never use j pickup, its weak and very noisy. Otherwise it has quality on it and good p coil sound.
