Opinions are like online guitar teachers... They vary in quality.
In this video I break down some controversial guitar opinions you guys submit and put them in a tier list based on... nothing in particular. Sometimes it's based on how controversial it is.. other times based on how much I enjoy it.

It never occured to me that anyone would skip learning barre chords. I mean it's still VERY entry level stuff. It's like never bothering to learn the first minor pentatonic pattern.

It's actually such a fundamental thing for playing more than just folk or rock music

@@edward4840 Well, it's pretty damn fundamental for rock too. I guess you can get away with not knowing barre chords if strumming folk/country songs is all you ever do, and even then it's very limiting. For an average adult, learning to play E and A shape barres decently takes like a month or so of practise. There is absolutely no excuse not to learn them. Also, deducing dominant 7th, minor 7th and major 7th chords using these shapes is very straightforward and ta-da! You are now able to play chords for like 95-99% of rock, pop, folk and country songs ever written.

Barre chords is the first wall I remember hitting as a young guitarist. I could totally understand wanting to give up on them.

Carl Brown>>>Marty I’ve noticed on Marty Guitar lessons , it doesn’t always sound right. Either the tone is off or he’s playing it wrong as a short cut for beginners. If you want to play the whole song as is, Guitarlessons365 is the place to go 🔥

I also prefer Carl .. a few times Marty has been off note wise. Carl has also had a few alterations.. it does happen but i do prefer how he gets right to the point . I tend to just have a tab or two open when I run through a song with one of them.

I've improved in guitar so much whilst having this channel along the way, it's fantastic. Also I'm grateful to yet again appear in a video, even though in F tier (to be honest, I deserved that)

Tonewood IS a myth though, at least for electric. It’s basically only the pickups that affect tone.

The only place where "tonewood" actually matters is for the neck where carbon fiber performs better anyway

The wood, finish and body style don't affect the sound on their own, but when the guitar feels different, it'll more or less afflect your playing on a subconscious level. Not like you'll suddenly start playing whole genres or add completely new licks to your solos, but small, dynamic things like where you feel comfortable holding your picking hand, which affects where you pick. A pickup being in a certain place can affect where you pick or make for a good marker for a pinch harmonic spot. A finish on the neck can make it easier to slider your hand across the fretboard and make you play cleaner etc. etc.

I literally taught myself how to play I can't read music I'm dyslexic I play by sound so I learned the sounds of the front board take it from there👍👍

@@mariahholden2088 I can play pretty much any chord (there are a few I come across that still trip me up). I'm pretty good at barre chords, and I can play riffs , not anything crazy, but some nice riffs. I wish you the best. If you get discouraged, just remember the goal. 😊

i can play a song on a guitar even tho i didnt search what are the chords for it. i just pick the low e string and fret it in a random fret until it matches the song's tone. (yes, thats my own life hack for guitarists.)

Ok well once you find the right first note, let's say G (3rd, top string) 3rd fret 5 string is C and 5 fret 5 string is D. Look at the shape you made (like a Tetris L) those are all the major chords in the key of G. Now move backwards 4 frets (which in this case is E) and make the same shape as before. The notes are E A and B.....Those are the minor chords in the key of G. So the chords in the key of G major are G, Am, Bm, C, D, Em and you have a seventh chord in every key which in G is F# dim7 (F# is two frets up from the first position of your minor note shape (the Em) That is music theory in a nutshell or a good beginning lesson.

my controversial opinion is barre chords arent even hard. i learned them like 2 months into learning guitar, i think most people that complain about them havent put enough time into trying to learn them and get demotivated/daunted by everyone on the internet saying they are the hardest thing in the world when they just arent.
