I totally agree to your notion that Nemophila somehow has a very modernist approach to metal. Concerning your question about the genre that Nemophila usually plays - there's no definite answer yet, they published just a handful of original songs yet (seven, I guess), which have similarities but can't be classified into a single genre (this band is still experimenting a lot since it is quite 'fresh' - which is a good thing, they should hold on to it. They've got enough creativity for that, they are ingenous musicians alltogether). E.g. take "Raitei" ("thunder" in japanese), it's ultramodern, it is real hard and even aggressive, but I would'nt compare it directly with "Dissension". I'd describe it more as a mix of very speedy grunge and metal, 'transposed' to the utmost 21st century modernity (if this makes sense anyhow, I'm not sure). The other songs are still more diverse. But none dissapoints. One last hint: in the song Nemophila released right before "Dissension", "Fighter" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KMioZiACr4s.html), Haraguchi-San the bass player is more prominent in the mix (even if the production/sound quality overall doesn't match up to Nemophilas high standards to the normal extent. But maybe I'm just to censorious here (If you should review that song, take care - it ends after 4 min 03 sec, while during the rest of the video the band members do PR for their third single!)
Thanks a lot for the insights, really appreciate it! I'm extremely curious to find out more and I love discovering bands even before they release a first record. Hopefully they keep this level of quality throughout the different genres they experiment with 🤘🏻
@@akaalexanderking - re keeping this level of quality in other genres - yes, they do. Whether more rock or more metal or whatever, they give it all they've got and have fun with it at the same time.

Raitei, Sorai, Fighter, Oiran, Life all great songs. Band Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites, Nightwish my favorite bands now. Japan like Europe just so many talented rock, metal bands. Kanami, Saki and Hazuki here, Midori and Miyako of LB, all just incredible guitarists. Yes Saki and Hazuki play 7 strings. Tamu here, and Akane are my favorite drumers. Mayu sings one of most beautiful ballads in Life, where i wind up in tears. The song is about birth, and drummer Tamu had just come back after giving birth. And her holding back emotion is just beautiful, and when she does cry, i just let go. ( life is from their live stream show back in august) They are all in other bands, but formed late 2019. Saki is guitarist of Marys Blood, etc.
wow, didn't believe the drummer is a mom, dev she also live with her passion to music. remembering me to Nao, maximum the hormone drummer she also a mother and both tamu and nao playin heavy music for sure
Okay, as a guitar player and Maidiac, your channel had gotten me to subscribe recently, and then I saw that this was coming up and I knew I had made the right decision.
Thank you for the reaction of NEMOPHILA. NEMOPHILA videos are still uploaded on RU-vid, so we are looking forward to your reaction by all means from Japanese NEMOPHILA fans.
Great reaction. Nemophila have become one of my favorite bands very quickly. They formed in 2019 after coming together as Mayu's live support band. It is a mix of all-star-band and side project. All members are seasoned musicians who where previously or still are active in other bands: singer Mayu (ex-Lipstick), bassist Haraguchisan (ex-Hölderlins), drummer Tamu Murata (ex-Soramimi, also solo artist), guitarist Hazuki on the left (ex-Disqualia, currently also member of the prog rock Lisa-X Band) and guitarist Saki on the right (one of the most prolific musicians in the japanese female metal scene, so ex-a-lot-of-bands, member of Mary's Blood and Amahiru (with Frédéric Leclercq) and since this year also solo artist).
I wouldn't use the term "ex" regarding all their other bands. At least some are still active in them. Mary's Blood for one released a video just recently.
@@jacobusderottmann1000 Haha, I thought I distinguished by using ex-... and member of... But I admit that sentence is so long, it is hard to decipher which parts are really connected.
Hi 👍 This band is very good . great job of all ! Some of this band are very special.true talents are appreciate. i liked your reaction. I suscribe greetings.
I love this band! I mean, really love this band. What is great about them is their originals are metal, and Mayu is the first singer I love screaming at me! They also do covers and the covers range from pop to rock to metal and the versatility of Mayu's voice is amazing! This is a great band to watch and listen to. Thanks for reacting to them!
Great reaction man! You have to react to NEMOPHILA’s “Life”. It’s a slower song and my favorite by them. NEMOPHILA is flirting with different genres (metalcore, heavy metal...) so every song is different. Great t-shirt of my favorite band 😉
I second that. Life is a fantastic song. Also worth checking out some of their covers which cover everything from 70s glam rock (T-Rex) through to Baby Metal.
I would say that rather than flirting with various genres, they simply don't care about genre definitions. One of the reasons why Japanese rock and metal are so dynamic--most of the artists don't let themselves get defined by a genre.
Hazuki is becoming my favorite guitarist, so versatile. Here in Nemophila with Saki (Mary's Blood, see Amahiru MV Hours, Shred Racers, World Guitar Girls Collection leader, and formerly Destrose & more). With Narumi of the long red hair (together in Disqualia(besides Mary's Blood & Lovebites, this was another spinoff of multiple Destrose members, aiaiai), backing LisaX, backing Rami, & solo Narumi, and recent joint magazine article regarding Narumi's all-female project (now 2+years held up, mostly for a singer was my (old) understanding). And with LisaX again in Li-sa-X Band (with singer Rina connected to B'z (huge pop/hardrock band), and rhythm section support from B'z, including Billy Sheehan on one track). Meaning Hazuki has been asked to support 3 of Japan's biggest shredder front women ... Try LisaXBand's One More Chance Is Enough for some soulful prog shreddy pop rock ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PzsqmnEa89c.html
One more chance is enough: LisaX band (LisaX, Hazuki, Rina), guesting Billy Sheehan and Shane Gaalaas (B'z), keys prob by producer IsseiAmbo?, written by Narumi (with Issei?). LisaX is now 16, but the song was produced when she was 14, you know, for her 4?th prog/shred release on Sony... What label were you on at 11 when you graduated elementary school?!!!
Nice reaction ! you must check more of their videos (own MV or covers from the studio). Mayu (the vocalist) has such a versatile and coulourful range, and she's progressing constantly (she's only 23 yo) !

Knew you would be blown away. They are such a great band and have some great cover tunes too. I normally dont like screamy vocals or metal core but this is way different. She has an incredible voice. And the way they transition to the really catchy chorus. Lovely!!
Absolutely. On a second listen I've also noticed the great vocal production as well, singing close to the mic and adding a bit of distortion to really push it
Finally!! NEMOPHILA!! Thanks for the reaction, I can see that you're really absorbed in this superb song and MV. Nemophila and LOVEBITES are my two most fave Japanese all-female metal bands right now. This band is so versatile that they covered various songs from Helloween to Banana Song (maybe you should react their rendition of the song, it's hilarious). Please react next to their song "Raitei". Thanks!!
@@akaalexanderking glad you like it so much. Nemophila is a relatively new band so any exposure to the band will greatly help them gather popularity and fanbase they so rightfully deserve. Be waiting for your next reaction man. Cheers!!
Great reaction dude, these ladies are on fire right now. Their online live from a couple of days ago was absolutely fantastic. As a request, because I don't see them on the channel, I'd love to see you react to the band Sokoninaru. They are a math rock trio, from Osaka I believe. I recommend Gou Ni Moyu or Tenohira De Odoru as a starting song. Honestly, awesome stuff.
Thanks for the reaction and analysis. Much harsher vocals than usual. They only formed in 2019, so still a very young band. Kinda curious now. I know 2 japanese trio's . But both are great, so should be good.
Hey GG glad you found another favorite band of mine. Nemophila quickly climbed my favorites list, joining Band-Maid and Lovebites, in my top 3. both leads are on 7 string. I'm a big fan of Saki and her other band Mary's Blood. I'm really enjoying your reactions and analysis. cheers
This year is amazing for Japanese female bands. Monsters is another great track from them. Also Bridear -- Daybreak and TRiDENT -- Imagination both just dropped. Check them out too!
I can't speak for the rest of the band but when Mayu called me this morning she said "Tell GuitarGent to react to Sorai, live". I couldn't disagree, i still owe her money :)
@@akaalexanderking Lol. Btw. Female bassist reactor SYGNEH said she'd love to play bass on the song to B-M we have. That is, if you don't mind composing original music to the lyrics (there's no point us sending you them yet unless we can get you guys together).

They are a project band. Saki (guitar on right - current member of Mary's Blood and ultimate shredder) got Mayu (vocal - former Lipstick member) and Hazuki (guitar - member Diqualia). They also got Haraguchi-san (bass - HoLDERLINS) and Tamu Murata (drums - former SORAMIMI). They are all stellar musicians. Saki is the most famous one in this group. Tamu started as a pop/fusion drummer. She has many cover songs on her channel - her cover of the theme song of Lupin III anime has over 8 million views. She has other covers that have huge numbers of views. I got confused with left and right. I know Saki's face and made a stupid mistake. Also, Saki is the prettiest one in the band, I think. ;D
@@akaalexanderking Saki is the one who uses the killer guitar, hazuki uses the ibanez guitar, and Saki is from another girl band "mary's blood" that has more than 10 years of experience. She currently has 4 porjects in progress. She is the real worker.
I loved the expression on your face during Mayu's first scream. I think I had the same expression when I first watched their mv Raitei. Good one to check out if you can, solos are awesome
Let's not lose sight of the fact that each of these ladies has already been a massive "celebrity" in Japan with former bands. Saki is absolutely worshiped in Japan and getting any signed merch from her is almost a miracle now!! I'm lucky to have stuff from Mayu....but 2020 should've been Nemophila's year, but Covid had other ideas. 2021 should see the band become MASSIVE! Please BUY their new album - all 5 songs are crackers!! EXCELLENT reaction dude!! mine was very similar.....awestruck....and instantly in love with Mayu!
Loved that you covered these women, excellent comments on a first reaction as usual. This was a very recent one for them, and they are just getting rolling as a band - just had a live online show a few days ago - but each of these ladies has talent, skills and experience that shines through.
Several commenters already filled you in on the personnel and history, so just a couple of comments. They started as a side project, but the reception has been so passionate that they are getting more serious about it. I think they are quickly earning a spot alongside the best Japanese bands, such as Band Maid, Lovebites, Mary's Blood and Unlucky Morpheus (Saki is the lead guitarist for Mary's Blood and co-lead for Nemophila--she's going to be very busy!). Check out Mary's Blood: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MLM2unV0kwU.html I call this "Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails."
I'd like to throw in AMAHIRU too... a project between SAKI and Frédéric Leclercq (ex-Dragonforce, Kreator). They released their first album last November, and it's AWESOME!! So, yeah... SAKI's gonna be veeeery busy..
@@akaalexanderking don't react to Amahiru, you will get a copyright strike, just a heads up. Best to watch it to yourself. I know 3 reaction channels already had a strike on it.
Tamu (the drummer) is fantastic. She also has her own drum channel that's a lot of fun. She does a lot of different stuff there, but one my favorites is the cover of SIM's Killing Me that she did with Shiena Nishizawa (Pop/Rock guitar player). The original is a Nu Metal song that's OK, but I'm not a super big fan of it. The cover however is so much fun to watch, especially since they changed the style from Nu Metal to almost indie rock with only slight distortion on guitar. And Tamu's drumming absolutely carries this version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vuPc0EvbIns.html
If you check out their RU-vid page they have their originals and covers broken out into groups. All of their original songs are excellent and very much this style - perhaps this is a little more harsh but Oiran is pretty harsh too. Nemophila are my current favorite band. For traditional power metal you need to check out the first successful group in the genre - Aldious. Although they formed a little after Destrose (the seed band for most J-Metal bands) they were the breakout success. Their latest MV on RU-vid features an online live with their third vocalist (two others got sick and left). Aldious it's a rabbit hole you can spend a long time exploring and they are still going strong. They will forever be in my top five bands, their class, variety, skill and creativity are second to none but you have to go way down into the pits of the rabbit hole to understand.
Yeah, Nemophila is great. They remind me of B-M in tastiness and they also have their own sound. I think this group will become more popular in a short time. My fav from them is Raitei, it's a banger 🤘
Great Great reaction. I really enjoyed your reactions from LoveBites. These ladies are best in the business who came from different bands. You gotta check out Raitei and Oiran. Rock on 🤘.
@@akaalexanderking I can (should) listen to more of this. The only harsh vocal that's taken my fancy (apart from Lemmy, back in the day) has been Jinjer...have you seen/heard the 'Judgement And Punishment: One Take Vocal'?...she's astounding. Superb band too.
Like everyone here has said, these ladies are absolutely phenomenal! This song literally melted my face off when I first heard it. I was expecting it to be as heavy as Oiran or Raitei but boy, was I way wrong. They turned it up to 11. Out of all of the female-fronted Japanese rock bands I listen to, these ladies are in my top 5. I sure do hope you're ready for more of them 'cause I don't think they're going to slow down any time soon 😉
Can see you were blown away by the aggressive vocal. Contrast in style which highlights the chorus. Agree with your non verbal re the screaming vocals. Can see their very good musicians that just need a bit of time to finesse their skills. Getting the solo right. Their young so that stands in their favour as they have time to mature as they are very talented Musicians reach their peak in their mid to high 20's. They're a very good band now though.
You've already got all the info you'll probably need about the band from other comments. So, I'll just tell you my favorite songs by them so far that I'd like to see you react to. In order: 1. "Oiran." 2. Cover of Helloween's "I Want Out." 3. "Monsters." 4. Cover of X-Japan's "Kurenai." "Raitei," "Sorai," "Life," and cover of Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" are also good stuff.
Lol that's also my reaction yesterday when I saw this brand new MV from them. I had known them since Oiran. Their famous guitar shredder is Saki from (Mary's Blood) which also a daughter of one of the members of this legendary band called Show-Ya (first all-female band) from Japan. History says they'd played in NOKOR in the 80s? If I'm not wrong. Think Mayu is in my third place of favorite female screamers from Japan, next to Merging Moon and Dazzle Vision vocalists. Awhile ago Yuna of PassCode had a demo too of her screams and she's my 4th 🤟😎

@@akaalexanderking the technical skills I get. They have a whole system of schools that are built around teaching music and idol type skillsets. Having 10+ years of music, dance, etc. education will produce skilled performers, but these bands all have their own unique feel for the music that many artists don't develop in 20 years of writing and performing.
That is so true, big difference between studying music and actually being passionate musicians. I've always thought that the more music you listen to, the more you expand your musical sensibility. Especially if you're open minded genre wise, which is something that seems to be very common among these musicians

I would say this was a fairly representitive song but the band has only been around since the very end of 2019, they've barely got enough materiel for an album at the moment. Mayu's screams have some effects on them here and are being used much more heavily, she saves them for only 1 or 2 lines in earlier songs like Reitei and Oiran. @@akaalexanderking Yeah, they're a bit of a supergroup as the other guitarist is with LisaX, the singer is from Lipstick and the drummer a well respected sessionist. Saddly I can't remember which band the bass player comes from.
They are a group of musicians from other bands. I think this started more as a fun side project, but lately they have been releasing a few original songs ,so they might want to move forward with the band. I really hope they stick together and release a full album in the future. I think they only have 5 or 6 original songs, but they have really great covers too. Check out - Oiran or RAITEI from them. Great review. These girls have done some great covers over the last couple month. Might be something fun to check out in your own time. If this was modern you should check out Ningen Isu. @@akaalexanderking I really can't think of anyone else in the world keeping the original metal sounds like the Black Sabbath blues based metal alive as well as Ningen Isu. A proper old school power trio.
OK here's the thing about the majority of Japanese bands that are coming out at the moment they do rock/metal they don't really do sub-genres, like western bands seem to. I think this comes from having such a scene base in Japan it's allow them to play around with different style when they want, also not being tied to a record label helps, as they don't get pressure to repeat a popular sound they the company can make money off. Band Maid are an example of record labels interfering, when they started the label told them what to play. The band who were on the point of breaking up, talked the label in to letting them release a song that the band wrote, which became a big hit overseas, so much so the label gave up telling them what to do. And that is why there is such a big style change between the 1st 2 albums and the rest. Aldious a band that can do a pop punk sound all the way to heavy They were asked by a western journalist about a song not being metal, their reply was, what is metal, it's metal to us, metal is so wide and diverse. Then you have Babymetal a band that you just don't try and define apart from metal plus something else. You just don't know what style they are gonging to do next until you hear it. Oh!! and then you have Maximum The Hormone who don't stick the the same style in the a song, let alone an album. So all in all Japanese don't do sub-genres or categories, and it's so refreshing and why a lot of them are taking off in the west. If you like the growling voice try: Galmet - Zero Broken by the Scream - Ki Ra I Maximum the Hormone - Alien
Thanks a lot for the insight, you really made a good point there. I'm not a fan of labels (at all), most of the times they are a disgrace for artists. Good to know Band-Maid managed to get out of that situation
GuitarGent- When you get a chance please review the song MARIONETTE from the band MARY'S BLOOD. The guitar player Saki plays in both bands (Nemophila & Mary's Blood). If you think Nemophila sounds modern you could also check out Doll$Boxx (live version) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q_ufJIdkbR0.html , with Unlucky Morpheus singer Fuki included, I promise that they will blow you away.😲😉
日本のどのバンドもハイクオリティでやりすぎたせいで、欧米のバンドがもはや死に体でマイナーリーグに見えてきたのはやばいね。It's terrible that Western bands are no longer dead and look like minor leagues because every Japanese band has done too much with high quality.
@@akaalexanderking , I’ve been going down the J Rock rabbit hole for about 3 yrs now and more since the pandemic and it all started from watching Band Maid videos, this new band is refreshing to say the least and I’m not a fan of scream metal, you have to react to “Reitai” (excuse if I spelled it wrong) next more of a RnR feel, I believe this band is gonna explode this year!
