What are your thoughts on Guitar Rig 7?
@FilziSH
@FilziSH 9 месяцев назад
When I upgraded to version 6 in 2020, I was disappointed at how little they added after 9 years. But it was stated that they would gradually update the amps with ICM and in three years they added nothing. Now that version 7 has come out I feel like I have been ripped off. I will never go back to Guitar Rig again, whatever they put out there, there are more than enough guitar plugins for today.

I was blown away by the specter sound video on the topic. Than I installed the demo on my pc and tried it on prerecorded di tracks and I was less blown away and uninstalled it. Now I am just curious what others like you get out of that software. And I have higher expectations so I am less flabbergastetxD

I absolutely love it. Tried many plugins during Covid, but Guitar Rig's ICM amps were the only ones where I actually had fun playing guitar. For example, NeuralDSP sounded too artificial and slightly touching a string sounded exactly the same as almost breaking it - not exactly fun when you're trying to put some feeling into the stuff you're playing (works great for ice-cold, emotionless modern metal, though).

Hpnnestly, if the upgrade from Guitar Rig 6 to 7 was like 20 $< I will be totally okay with that, but there's so few changes, so few new amps, so few new features in general. Why didn't they remodel their old amps again with ICM ? I love Van51, and would love to have it in ICM

I have a Boss GT100 - don't like it. Line 6 Helix and Native plugin... lots of flexibility but some of the models are awful. Bought a Marshall. Then another. 4 cable mode. Torpedo soak. Ok, we're improving. I found GR7 in an Izotope bundle and thought, well, it'll probably be cra... WOW! After a week of thorough testing, midi, automation etc. I'm putting all my gear up for sale. Ok, there are a few issues but compared to all the other stuff and my need for portability, it's just excellent. It doesn't fart out on low notes, the Vox jangles verily... I can go from Andy Summers to Robben Ford to Angus to Eddie and the sounds are tight, responsive and full of distinctive character. I'm an SSL fanboy and yes, the EQ is great. I thought my little Focusrite interface would muddy the sound but no! Plus, the macro utility makes it so easy to assign controls. I especially like the Supercharger comp and the TS9 clone. Too radical? I've played most amps over 40 years including 5150, Mk2b, JCMs, Soldano, Princeton, AC30, etc. and Jeez, heck, I love my tubes and have lovingly serviced all my own amps, but it's hard to justify lugging 2 x 60lb combos around when the audience is too pissed to notice, the room sounds crap, I'm happy with the sound, and engineer is glad for an easy night! In the studio, ok I would defo go the Tim Pierce hardware route, but it doesn't make sense for me. Thank you NI! Current setup: GR Pro 7, FCB1010 (stock), Focurite Pro40, dedicated i5 laptop + complete duplicate for backup.

I think GR7 is a real bump up from 6. Some great tools in there. Nice video!

I think the clean tones stood out here for me. It had a whole vibe. The dirty tones on the other hand. Well it leaves some to be desired. I think some of the plug-ins they offer inside the amp sim are a pretty smart feature. I could see a young person just getting started with mixing getting some good use out of this. One plugin will get you guitar and bass tones as well as some important mixing tools such as eq and compressors and reverbs. So that’s a tiny win. For me, this one may not get used but that doesn’t exactly mean a whole lot. I’m only one guy. Lol

I've always thought that GR was the best of the software modeler apps/plug-ins, not necessarily in that the amp tones were the most faithfully modelled recreations, but that it had the best set of effects and parameter modulation options for achieving the most wildly creative and original tones and can be used as a sound design tool the way we use synths but for any source including guitar. GR7 improved upon GR6, and GR6 vastly improved upon GR5, even though I continue to lament the loss of the MIDI mappings facility forcing you to use either the Container or Macros for variable parameter control.

Does it work live though, live Guitar Rig 5 ? They removed the feature in GR6 because they discontinued the required hardware pedals long ago. So I guess it's purely a home studio plugin now ?

I used to have Guitar rig 5, i lost all my NI komplete discs long ago, ive since moved on to Nembrini audio for amp sims. Literally the only thing i miss guitar rig for is stereo tune, i need a standalone plugin of some sort that does that sound lol

I got it as a free inclusion when I upgraded Ozone and Nectar. I think it’s tits, but considering everything else I have I definitely wouldn’t have paid $199 for it by itself. Great IR loader fixes most of its tonal shortcomings. I’d put it above BIAS for sure, maybe even above NDSP for all the options in one box, but not quite up there with AmpliTube and ToneX. Still probably best in a host where you can use a more pro gate and eq plugin before and after. But I do that with everything.

Amp sounds are not necessarily its strong suit, but the effects are super cool. Playing around with presets is a fun time.

I think the amps sounds are its strong suit, none of the other plugins comes as close to replicating the behavior of a real amp.

@rockapartie
@rockapartie 2 месяца назад
@@marLamaDeo I couldn't care less about what the majority thinks. The ICM amps are awesome, I absolutely love Fire Breather, it's the only sim that's able to sound _and behave_ like my Marshall tube head. The dynamic response is also great, you don't get that from e.g. Neural DSP sims.

Still the best interface of any amp sim. Always loved it, super fun to play with, even though it's maybe not as great sonically as some other plugins.

I'll never forgive them for eliminating the Rig Kontroller support and the custom preset groups. They totally killed its live performance usefulness.

Nice video, but something every sim amp reviewer does WRONG is not put a dry sound too, mixed with full band tracks, which are not the sim amp. A better way is to put a dry sound showing how the amp handles the effects. Thanks.

@voss451

It's hard to tell a lot of times with the demos because all of the guitar tracks are doubled and in a full mix, so there's no way to get an idea of what it sounds like on it's own. You can take a $50 pedal, put it in a full mix with layered guitars and make it sound good, so perhaps some isolated/solo tracks might be more helpful.
@ViTAR30
@ViTAR30 9 месяцев назад
On the other hand there are amp sims that sounds good alone, but lost in a mix.
@voss451
@voss451 9 месяцев назад
@@ViTAR30Exactly. That's why a lot of other people that demo gear also include a short clip of what the vst/pedal/etc.. sounds like on it's own as well, not just a 'full mix'. I know when I play with a vst, it's not in a full mix, so there's no way I'd be able to get it to sound like his in the demo.
@colinmitchell1287
@colinmitchell1287 9 месяцев назад
In the mix matters more, hearing stuff solo by themselves doesn’t mean much to anyone making recordings. They also have trials for this kinda thing, if you wanna hear your own tone in solo.

From the first note of this demo it's obvious that Guitar Rig is still not as good as many of the other amp sims out there. Your demos usually sound much better and tighter than this! :)
@Bcwilderness
@Bcwilderness 9 месяцев назад
for people who havent the neighbours or funds for tube heads cabs mics its good, but for making records you will end up mixing the drums down to the lack lustre 2d sound of sims, its a sound but still i feel the real deal always wins tone and feel

Guitar Rig 6/7 is Fake. Sounds exactly like Guitar Rig 5, they just changed the interface. Is there a test from a RU-vidr that shows this.
@SonicDriveStudio
@SonicDriveStudio 9 месяцев назад
I wouldn't call it fake at all. There's a lot of legacy effects in there (most modelers do that, they include their old gear as well as new stuff so that you have more options) but they certainly did add new gear as well.
