@@zzone388 are you going to reply this to every comment ? nobody wants to hear a guitar player tuner by ear at gig. your brain isn't as precise either.
I am a massive visual learner and jesus dude, thank you so much for that visual lesson on buffers. Never knew it was that simple with all the fancy technical jargon, seriously, Thank You!!

Electronic tuners are great, but I’m surprised at the number of younger players who can’t use a tuning fork and/or tune by ear to other instruments. It’s an easy skill to pick up and super useful. My band teacher would always tune the First chair of every instrument to a tuner, and then tune the section to the First. She insisted that we learn to hear when we were sharp or flat and make our own adjustments. I’m grateful we did some things the hard way.
I’m a Gen X on the cusp of being a Boomer. A lot of my guitar playing friends believe that Blackstar amps are crap, but only two of us have tried Blackstar amps and we both think they’re great. We both bought one. The thing is, the aspirational amps for people in their 50s are mainly Fender and Marshall. I think people declare their brand loyalty and hate things which aren’t on their GAS list. 👍😁👍
Been using a D'addario pedal tuner for years now. Never had an issue, it's been bullet proof and accurate. It's not the plus, but I don't need a timer, and use a boss SD1 as my buffer/od immediately after it.

I own the peterson strobo stomp, and I love it. Its super visible, has all the options(which I don't use), and it leaves no room for ambiguity. Yes, if you want to tune to the exact note, it can be fiddly, but you quickly get a feeling for "oh, now it sounds good enough" movement. We never tune our guitars to the EXACT pitch. It's just not possible, and to learn to balance these inaccuracies is quite valuable in my opinion. And this tuner doesn't "lie" to you like other tuners, where they just go "green, now it is good. red, now it is bad".
Another great vid! How anyone uses those Boss TUs with the tiny LED letters is beyond me, and I don't wear glasses. Bigger the display the better. A tuner should always have a second output so it can be used as a permanent AB pedal and ideally 2 inputs

Did you mean to reply to my comment with this? Also yeah tuning by ear is great for playing by yourself, but for a band setting or recording you really want to be dialed in. Also even by yourself it's way faster to use a tuner when playing live to cut time down between songs.

I love my waza TU3, it seriously pushes my signal with its improved buffer and you can get them used regularly for the same price as the non waza like I did
As far as clip on tuners go the D'Adarrio isn't bad at all in a pinch. I've tuned using it and plugged into my Peterson strobo plus to check how out of tune the guitar was. It's close enough for rock n' roll. For stage use I'd use my boss tu-2 it doubles as a on off switch for the signal to the amp. No flipping the pick up selector switch for me when I want that particular guitar effect.
I use Snark clip on Tuners or the Tuners Built into my Amps Editing Software . The Snarks are accurate enough and the convenience is great . They aren't pretty but that's not their job and I don't care if they don't look cool or pretty Function is what matters !!
My warning and what to consider when shopping for a tuner: Will you be able to see it when playing a gig outside in bright sunlight? If you'll never do that fine, but i have done gigs where I had to try and make walls of shade around my pedal board tuner to try and see it when I needed while playing. An analog needle won't be a problem.
Wow that velcro strip is a nice feature. Being able to decide between the velcro and the pad just makes it even better as well. I really hate mutilating my own pedals to stick them on my pedal board.
I often turn on the radio to tune, always seem to find a note in standard tuning or even a fretted note to get the job done. Perhaps I'll buy a tuner. I like that buffer, then I can stop saying signal loss is a part of my sound.
I always loved scoping out my favorite bands rigs/gear while the roadies are still everything ready and lights are up....know what I miss most? Concerts👍 but they're coming!!!
TC Electronic tuners are great, i have the Unitune clip-on and the Polytune3 Pedal. I don't use the polyphonic function a lot but even when used like a standard chromatic tuner it works better than my Boss TU-3
KDH,Thanks for the great content as usual and that shirt is awesome!!!Lemme guess, you were trying to fall asleep and looking at the wall and said "I'm gonna make that a shirt"lol definately ordering one.

peterson strobostomp hd for the best all round tuner in my book. pricey but very good in every area. and then the sweetened tunings for extra fun and experiments are great.
I just bought one a few hours ago, $213.00 CAD, haven’t hooked it in yet, bought it because I liked the large simple to read screen, the narrow width, the buffer, and I had the D’Addario clip on tuner before, which I thought was a better tuner than the Snark I previously used.
good sir, how dare you make me want to spend money again?! Love the vids man, keep em coming. If you haven't already, give us a demo of that blackstar in the back :)

One thing to note about tuning apps on your phone: from my own experience, the Boss one seems to be compatible with iRig type devices, so if you have something like that, they can become much better than they are as standalone apps. That said, pretty much any kind of tuner will do the job better, but best not to completely write off the apps. And IN A PINCH they can still be lifesavers, if you have literally zero other options at the ready.
I heard a difference I didnt know it was that subtle or big depending how toy take it. I learned how to intonate with a clip on ima need one of those fancy tuners for that. Appreciate the knowledge you share sure saves me and others time catching up with the wisdom online
I’ve played where several bands were playing 30 or 45 minute sets over the day and the timer would actually be handy. It’s not too hard to get into a song and add a lead or another verse where your planned time gets off. A 5 minute warning would be just about right for when to play your closing song.
okay this is weird, i have a new guitar coming thursday and was just wondering what tuner i should go out and buy tomorrow and then this video shows right up in my feed. excited to watch this one!
Man, that shit happens to me a lot in general. Sometimes it really makes me think if technology actually can read people's minds, as fuckin' crazy as it sounds. 🤷♂️ I've had far too many coincidences concerning stuff like this.
@@nckhed well, they wont read your mind, but they can pick things up from most things you do online or with your phone and recommend things based on that
I've been using a coarse tuner forever, even a couple really nice coarse tuners with my line 6 pod go, but that new Strobe tuner copy cat is my shit. I'm gonna look at a real deal strobe tuner now
I bought a used rack tuner and put it on top of my amp head. I think I paid $20 for it. I like it a lot better than a pedal tuner. It’s really easy to see.
I've tried all kinds of tuners and always found them shitty. After 30 years of playing, the best one i've ever found is the Peterson StroboStomp HD. They are kind of expensive, but I liked it so much I bought two of them. One for home, one for the practice space.

Maybe not the most exciting (well it depends) but I got another one (a pedal) cos the first clip-on was driving me crazy. Slow, sometimes doesn't react, shows crazy stuff when it feels like it... I hate it.
You said you never got a pedal with a battery in the package?Boss used to come with a battery they say is only good for a short term but a lot of the time it last a while.I'm old and haven't bought a Boss in a long time but I'm wondering if they still include one.
when your signal is intact a buffer is nothing but destructive...BUT...when your signal is absolutely trashed by long runs or poor effects(racks tend to be real culprits) then buffers can restore your tone to absolute perfection...(and for some reason the worse your signal has been trashed the better and more accurate to the original signal the buffer tends to be...so either do not use a buffer but if you see a need then absolutely trash your signal before using the buffer...lol
"Chewners"...And IMO Boss is the best purely based on the tactile nature of the switch. It's pleasant, easy, quiet and you don't need to be highly accurate when pressing it. All great things when it's the pedal you will be turning on/off the most.
There was an audible difference even while listening through my phone speakers. You did show the bypass sound - I would love to hear the sound of your direct in tone vs. pedal board without tuner / buffer and then a sample with the buffer effect active. I've been struggling with my amps feel and tone being off when I run my pedal board , specifically with regards to some noticeable tone loss while using a pedal board without a buffer, perhaps just adding a tuner would solve my issue?
Omitting the ‘power out’ jack was probably for the best; as that large, beautifully bright 13-segment display is driven with multiple square waves flying at several thousand high-voltage/low-voltages per second. There are at least two practical reasons why it only includes power in: 1. The high frequency switching is prone to dirtying up supply voltage. It’s like a tube amp’s ‘sag’ when you’re hitting the gain stages something fierce, lowering the available supply voltage and affecting both the available headroom and the amplifier stages’ biasing- except it’s not musical and often causes lots of problems. The circuit would need more components, space, and cost to make sure it’s never a pedal that lets its only application be affected by the only thing it does. 2. Just good old current draw! This guy consumes 27mA in bypass, 40mA when active but no audio incoming, and 56mA(rated)-70mA(tested) while you’re actively using it. Tube screamers are rated at 7mA while the venerable Metal Zone is at 20mA. Being known for blazing through batteries compared to the long-running, simple pedal isn’t good for business or players. If guitarists could blame one pedal for why two aren’t powered, they would. Then they’d do that internet thing about it. Thanks for another enjoyable video!
man that timer would really help i have some secodn hand behringer, and i think this will be one of my first upgrades Im also a daddario nut =P Thanks for the review

3:45 um ... no. Just no. There's no such thing as a "lag" on the Peterson strobo tuners, and the TCs are very fast. It's quite bold to say all strobo tuners are slow just because your one strobo tuner is, don't you think?
Currently using a generic chromatic tuner with a random brand stamped on it from Amazon for £20. It does it's job but this really looks like a worthy upgrade... or maybe I'm developing signs of GAS...
I swear by my polytune mini 3 I have It in the loop of my noise gate so it’s always on but the in built buffer isn’t in my signal chain and I don’t have to click it on or off given that I also have a separate kill switch elsewhere on my board.

I have that D'addario pedal. The only thing that I don't really care for is that it doesn't seem as precise as my TU-3/poly3 mini. Fairly minor, but certainly something I've noticed (more so with my bass)
That timer is a good idea actually. All bands should use it for the Bloodstock Metal 2 the Masses competitions haha. How do you find the Blackstar amp? They seem to divide opinion and get a lot of criticism.
What's a good tuner for a 6 string bass? I usually end up tuning mine by ear or with a DAW plugin. The clip on style tuner completely fails to pick up the lower strings.
I've just got a standard crappy Fender clip-on for my 5-string bass. I thought it only worked for the D and G strings at first, and occasionally the A, but I discovered after a bit of experimenting that it actually DOES work for the lower strings. You just have to REALLY let them ring out. The temptation is to just keep plucking faster and louder, but you should do the opposite - I presume it's something to do with wavelengths or sample rates or whatever. It takes about a second or two before it registers, but as long as you just let it ring without plucking again, it should pick up the low B, E, and A fairly easily. I hope this helps :)
This is so much more interesting and useful than dudes reviewing amps I'd have to sell my car for or "I bOuGhT ThE ChEaPeSt 12 StRiNg On FaCeBoOk MaKetPlAcE"

The fact that you said that was the first time you got a pedal with a battery is a lie because I know for a fat that boss petals come with a battery inside of them.
I run a rack tuner in the studio and it's patched to everything. It's a perfect setup. You plug into the rack no matter if you are using Sims or live amps.
