He doesn’t know what he’s gonna play. What he does is that he doesn’t play exact notes. He improvises told make it sound as close as possible. Plus he has an amazing memory. I’ve been watching him for years. He genuinely knows that many songs
He does have song ideas prepared (and practiced at least a little bit) for the videos, but whenever he takes requests that is obviously just him coming up with it on the spot.
He could play the songs exactly note for note if he wanted. He just adds his own flair. He’s an incredibly gifted musician but what he’s doing isn’t magic. He has extremely good pitch recognition so he’s able to immediately pick out the key and chord progression. He records it on a loop and then he plays the melody over top and does some improvisation. Its impressive for sure how quickly he picks up songs but it’s not quite as crazy as it may seem.
He plays a song request perfectly without having known it existed previously bruh. This guy isn’t giving him nearly enough credit. Hes way better than any of that.
I recently started studying his approach. He attacks the approach in 4 bars. He understands common chord progressions and how the chords support each other. He would understand how the melody intertwined with the support chords. E.g. 1-4-5 progressions have common turn arounds. His knowledge of music theory is unbelievable! I understand the mechanics of what he is doing but his approach, no way. I couldn’t replicate in 5 years what he does. He supposedly went to Berklee and has a degree in music. I see specific Berklee techniques in his playing and they are effortless. He uses a lot of sweeps and arpeggios, this is and easier tacit to highlight the notes of a chord. His timing for his sweeps and arpeggios are world class. Yngwie, MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore level. His reach is Paul Gilbert level! His bends, are kinetically and timing wise. I can’t understand. There are times when he leaves strings early to create as much tension as possible. As a guitarist, his stuff is totally real! I have zero shade to throw his way, total respect.
@@krinz7197 I love the way you think. And that’s the approach that he takes to music. 4 bars (reason for the looper), the chord pattern would indicate the mode. Yngwie, heavy Phrygian dominant Vai and Satch, heavyLydian Saw him learn a few songs on the fly that were supported by a Dorian chord structure. #6th His timing on his arpeggios are mind blowing. His bends are Andy Timmons level. Tonal perfection.
One other thing he does really well is he establishes the main "hook" just to get the listener knowing that this is indeed the song, then he can just go nuts from there. It is a very clever tactic that is wildly under-utilized and is hugely impactful. So much respect for TheDooo!
Man this is the best comment I've read this year. Finally someone can explain this 27-28 years old talent. I've been listening to guitar players for like 15 years now and when a friend show me this guy, I was in shock. He looks like a robot, his technique is flawless. It scares me how good this guy can become when he is 40. I hope someday he leave YT and starts producing more music
Yeah he’s able to get it pretty quickly He’s stated in a video that he’s been playing and studying music theory for 13 years now and it allowed him to gain an insanely good sense of relative pitch He’s said he doesn’t have perfect pitch seeing as that is something you have to be born with but in my opinion it’s a close as you can get to perfect without actually being it
@@monfloral He actually only has a small amount of knowledge on music theory, he has just been playing so much and for such a long time that he knows his instrument by heart, that's why his relative pitch is so damn insane. "small" as in, he knows his chords and his scales but I'm pretty sure it doesn't go very far past that which is amazing
Yeah for the songs he doesn't have looped and has to look up, the "perfect pitch" is his years of music theory. Finding the chord structure of the the song, looping it, (usually clean tone) mimicking the hook of the song and playing through (his insanely good) scales.... Sorry for all the commas lol!
I watched Dooo a long time, and you can always know when he is improvising because he has his recognizable patterns for improvisation, and when he is playing song he practiced and learn before. He do "pretty simple" stuff, put basic cords, catch main melody of vocal, and than go nuts with it --- the only trick is he is master of his instrument so he pulls some exhibitions that take breath :))))) You should watch him and Herman Lee improvising live together (superspeed shredding), when in one moment Herman Lee just lose his jaw not believing what Dooo pulled out
He has an old QnA video where he discusses his lengthy musical journey. Also, he has a few old omegle videos where it's uncut and he listens to a song he doesn't know and works it out live in literal seconds. He has mentioned that typical musical tendencies (in pop music) are a lot easier to figure out. Cool vid. Found a new channel
He might have prepared some songs to play beforehand as it's a drag to always have to set up the loops and stuff, but he takes requests most of the time. He probably has some songs at the ready in case someone gives him no request. And when they do give a request he doesn't always know the song, so he listens to it and does his own improv on it, so even if someone requested Polyphia's GOAT, I'm not expecting him to pick up the actual thing. As for his skill, he has a very good sense of improv. He doesn't just plaster shredding all over the place and go for bling....some of his improvs have very good consistency relative to the original song.
@@sgtmedrik2410 Well you're in luck! He has played it! Around a minute into "Shredding on my new mystery guitar?!" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lYwWp8hdWOI.html
He usually listens to the songs to get the key and chord progression. Then he plays the melody from memory while improvising a little. The Doo is super skilled! I don’t think he cuts the videos short much…I think he legit learns a song in a couple mins.
The Doo uses a looper pedal with the ability to store tracks, he keeps a lot of songs on various memory slots of his pedal and brings them up. I'm sure it takes him a moment to find the right track though.
He make an error in his video with Herman Li called "Playing guitar with Herman Li....." But, he did have a bag over his head...so... Keep in mind...he chooses which bits go into his videos... so we arent gonna see him make uh-ohs. He did play a Polyphia song in the "Mystery guitar" video.
He definitely has some already looped, in one omegle video a guy asked for a dragon ball z song and he said let him see if he still had it looped. So I am assuming he keeps songs looped that are either hard to loop together or the most common songs that need a loop. But some loops he has live like when he first started and you could tell he was looping due to how the guitar changed tone suddenly and continuing that different tone.
Please react to more of the dooo. I've rewatched all his omegle videos like 5-10 times. The only way I can enjoy these at this point is through reaction videos. I really like your vibe. First tkme wagchimg one of your vids btw
In a video, one of his Omegle spectators said that he learned the song in 5 sec... He is a legend ! So inspiring but so discouraging at the same time ! Is it even possible to catch up such a level ? He could play in a band and it would be so dope
Look into what he studied, "music theory". It's how he can recreate these sounds so quickly and accurately. There's a way he can look at it in his head as more than sounds. Go watch the videos where he actually does requests and plays them immediately. Some of what you're looking at was semi-scripted but the dude is nuts on the spot. Sometimes he even has to pull his phone out to hear their request for the first time and then he'll recreate it almost instantly with the added rock sound and probably a little mini solo inside of it.
One of the best comments I've seen out there. He has already explained how he often manages to hear the song and play it afterwards. He knows how to play various instruments, he knows music theory and he often takes the 2-3-4 chords that the music has and improvises in the proper scales. It sounds like it's easy to say but it's very complicated and takes years to learn. Anyway, he has an incredible sound which makes you think that his set is very good. Of course he prepares some songs, although I notice that many of the percussion rhythms are basically from his set and weak in variations, but what matters there is the guitar and he is very good at that. I've seen him miss notes when he played blindfolded with Herman Li. Only in that way, otherwise he is almost perfect...
It would make sense that his standard progressions don’t have much variation since the focus is on the guitar playing. But you’re right, considering how many instruments he plays as well as how long he’s been studying music that it’s not too difficult for him to improv on the spot like that. He’s one of the best at what he does for sure
the best way to put it is before he records he has a set list of songs that he already knows how to play incase they dont request one but if they do listens to a short snippet of the song on youtube and plays them with relative pitch and trys to match it as best he can on the fly
You should react to Herman Li and TheDooo charity stream, they both just improvise to backing tracks for like 30 minutes and it's insane. Also amazing chemistry between the two
When it comes to perfect pitch I have family who’s around the dooos level of musical skill and my uncle before he passed could listen to a song and play a little bit of it in ab 5 min just getting the chord progressions and the Melodie’s etc so I imagine that don’t take that long but if he’s putting backing tracks on the songs after listening than that prolly takes a few more min
This whole comment section is all guitarists for sure... 90% of them saying that what he does of picking songs and play it, are not hard at all, like come on i bet none of you can even play 50% of what he plays, his skills are great, he has 15 years of experience and besides he has perfect pitch, just chill tf out boys! I play for 11 years and i recognize that what he does its a special thing and the ability to pick songs, transcribe it to guitar and play it accuratly at first with people watching its something that not many people can do... Imagine how he plays with no one watching lol
He loops the requests he isn't prepared for, but he prepares for the eventuality that someone won't request something specific, so he has some back tracks on standby for that situation.
The doo is able to play most of the songs he doesn’t know pretty fast. For some of them he tests a little bit for the most part he just does it off the bat. But the doo is fucking amazing and his perfect pitch is
Sick channel. Also, he doesn’t practice the song request before playing it. He just listens to the song for 20 seconds, and plays it. There’s nothing else to it. He’s extremely talented. And so are you my dude 🫡
He has relative pitch. He said he doesn’t exactly know the names of the chords that he is playing at any given time but he knows the sounds they make and how to put them together.
He has a setlist that he plays from, if it's his choice. If he has backtrack already looped there's not much of a delay from when they request to when the song gets played. That being said, there are alot of times where he makes the loop then plays over it.
He doesn't have perfect pitch, in one of his old videos, around 2018, he said he developed relative pitch by being around instruments for all of his life and then picked up learning music theory while honing his relative pitch.
hes played some songs and improvised ones that hes never heard before after listening to it and a couple minutes to play around with tuning and chords. dudes insanely talented and has even had cover videos be taken down because it matched the original so perfectly
If you watch some of his old clips he'll sometimes ask the stranger to wait and that he needs to pull some of his pre recorded stuff. And if you watch all his vids he has themes or he sets what artist or genre for the vid. But his improves are insane
What he does is, pick a theme for his songs, as you can see in this video is rap songs, so he has a few prepared songs in loops, but that’s with the prepared ones, with requests he just improvise, he tries to keep the melody similar while adding some to it
To add onto this! The video is titled "Shredding on my new mystery guitar?!" a little over a year ago! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lYwWp8hdWOI.html
If y'all could choose 3 songs for him to play, what would they be? Answer below what you'd pick. My 3: Sleep by MCR, Famous Last Words by MCR, and Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Dooo is so talented and I feel like he isn't anywhere near as known as he should be in the guitar world. My picks are gonna be based on songs that I would love to hear him improv over and see how well he picks them up after listening. 1. Braindance - Animals as Leaders 2. Waterslide - Chon 3. Orb - Ichika
"i wonder how long it takes to learn these songs or if he just comes up with it on the spot" the dooo plays a request on the spot "okay, but that one was really easy"
I've seen people request steve vai, Eddie van Halen solo....so it's not just pop songs. People request pop songs because that the only type of music they know about or listen to.....
takes time for him to learn and practice? Dude watch mroe video's... He has shown multiple times that even when not knowing a song he can do backup loops and then just solo's right on over it. No practice no rehersing. Respect the Dooo
“easily lick” on a “super simple melody” lol. i wanna see you do the same thing he did. props to your skills though🤟🏼keep on bro. appreciate you recognizing a king🤟🏼🤟🏼
my father played accordion all this live and on his 70th birthday when he was playing . We asked if he could play an Avicii song, and he listen to it, and it was crazy. He never learned any notes in his live. Just all by hearing it.
It seems to me that he plays the background song post-processing. He plays the guitar and loop within the video/omegle but adds the rest of the song into the video for us.
I was wondering if that was a possibility because it would make sense. I would love for him to talk about how he makes the videos but I doubt he'd want to give away his secrets
he is an interesting character. I guess he isnt a "known" musician outside of what we see as he wouldnt be able to keep his identity secrete as successfully as he has. Even without seeing his face, his arms are pretty distinctive. I guess he is just enjoying what he does, earns him enough to get by - but my god the guy is top shelf
Watch his G.O.A.T. cover if you want to see him not quite live up to the song. His improvs are incredible because he's adding sauce to basic pop songs, but when faced with Tim Henson's level of instrumental lead guitar he doesn't have any space to add anything so he's arguably diminishing the song since he didn't take the time to learn it note for note.
I think a big part of it is him off camera practicing these popular songs he likes to play anime intros and stuff like this so It makes sense and when you know using theory like that and have an ear for music you can hear a note and play it on guitar that easy I know guitarists that aren't remotely as good as the doo who can hear a few notes from a song and play them just like that
I don't think he practices beforehand. You can see some videos where he doesn't know how to play something and will isten to it on his phone for a bit then use his theory knowledge to come up with something on the spot. Guy is insane.
He does know what type of songs he’s gonna play, sure he takes request but he types in like tiktok or something else so if he wants to play tiktoks songs he types that in to get other people on omegle who watch or know tiktok songs
TheDooo doesn't have perfect pitch, that's something that people are born with. He's been around instruments for his entire life and because of that developed Relative Pitch, which only got better the more he played and listened to music, along with studying music theory.
He has relative pitch I think. He hears a song and can go from there. Some people can hear one chord and also figure out how the rest of the song goes. He also improvised a lot of times.
He has done Polyphia before, he did GOAT but he didn't listen to it, i'm guessing he already knew how to play it, i mean is a sick song if you are a guitarist you definitly want to learn it
