This scene takes place on March 27th, 1986. The album "Master of Puppets" was released on March 3rd, 1986, and the song wasn't released until July 2nd, 1986. So Eddie had to buy the album and learn how to play "Master of Puppets" in at most 3 weeks. LEGEND!

The fact that Metallica reacted to him playing their song and played with him was amazing 👏

Joseph said in an interview that he has guitar experience since he was a little kid but took a couple weeks to work on this song. The solo proper at the end is Tye Trujillo, Robert's son but the rest is him.

I made everyone in my house mad, when I rewound the scene to watch it again. Masters of Puppets with the red lightening in the background, gave me full body goosebumps! Joseph quinn knows the song.

That was my son Aidan Fisher playing the solo.

He's been playing for years, so yes, he does. He knew he probably couldn't do the solo (which is insanely difficult), so a killer guitarist played that break. But this is the kind of thing that Joe Quinn is known for. If he doesn't win major awards for this role, there's no justice. BTW, I'm an old hippie, I know whereof I speak!

The "Hah" by Eddie JUST before he starts the riff just adds another beautiful dimension to the whole sound experience.

Joe Quinn having Metallica approval and jamming with them is just iconic. Him doing everything apart from the solo is just insane for an actor tbh.

This song worked perfectly, such a good song for an epic scene! He played a majority of this song. He said he played guitar since he was young, but yeah there is a vid where him and Metallica jammed to a Master of Puppets session.

Imagine being Joe, your director is telling you they're gonna bring in a double to record the solo, and you just pull out your old guitar from years ago and go, "I don't need no double."

Also if you look up Metallica's channel on RU-vid you can actually see the video where the actor comes on stage to talk about the stranger things and Metallica literally tells him that he actually did the song Justice because he actually did play it and it is a known fact that few characters are actors actually play an instrument and this person took the time out to learn one of the greatest heavy metal bands that I have admired for all time but go watch it on Metallica's RU-vid channel .

This was one of the most epic moments in TV history. And I feel like everyone involved kinda understood this. At first I was like....no way Eddie is doing those divebomb harmonics on a Warlock. But then I seen where Stranger Things & BC Rich teamed up to create an Eddie guitar....and yes, there was the Floyd Rose. So the attention to detail was legit.

He had Aidan fisher for the close up bits.. kid is an absolute legend

I'm happy to know that the actor who played Eddie Munson actually did he had been playing guitar since he was a little kid so he took a couple of weeks out to master the song and it's amazing if you go to RU-vid he's actually with Metallica and they were impressed for the fact that he did Master of puppets with them

There are videos out there of Joseph Quinn playing parts of Master. Haven't seen him play it all the way through, but he's got the rhythm parts and fills down really well. In one of the videos I watched he played part of the solo. So blown away by Eddie. Oh, and I do the same thing... I always wind up calling BS when someone who obviously can't play guitar is supposedly shredding. Drives me nuts.

That's what made this scene so much better to me knowing that he was actually playing the song even though you're not hearing him playing, the show he most definitely did play the song. His hand placement was too on point not to believe he actually learned to play the song.

A lot of the scene is done by Joseph Quinn who plays Eddie, but some parts that Joe could not do, were done by Aidan Fisher and Tye Trujillo.

So I heard online somewhere where Eddie would have only had maybe a month to learn this song. cos when it came out vs when the time line is. But he killed it for sure.

The fact that this whole guitar scene except for the end part is all Joseph quinn is just insane, i wish he could've done the end solo but its understandable cuz lol that is really hard to pull off

The amp used in the show was a Fender Princeton, but the actual sounds for the guitar was from an EVH 5150

Adrian Fisher played the solo, Joseph played the rest of the song. He said he played guitar for a long time when he was youger so he had a good foundation, then when he learned that he was playing Master of Puppets, he went and get a book and practiced as much as he could until the shoot.

What is cool with Joseph/Aiden (they were 2 playing that song; Aiden Fisher did the solo, Joseph did the rest) is that it allowed guitarists to guess the song in the trailer just with the hands movement so it was a nice easter egg for them.

Loved this scene in the show. For me my favourite scene of the season. I loved all the Eddie Munson scenes. Joseph Quinn played the character so well and stall our hearts and made me cry so much when his character died. I am still not over it, darn those Duffer Brothers. Well Joseph Quinn got to meet Metallica at Lollapalooza a couple of days ago, and jammed with them and hung out with them backstage before the band got to go on stage. Watching this I knew immediately this guy knew how to play a little, it's just the way he holds the guitar.

I've played the violin for almost 15 years and it KILLS me when actors don't even try to learn how to hold the bow correctly or rest their chin on the chin rest.

This made me want to learnt to play guitar, honestly. I already have a crappy acoustic guitar that my dad used to play on, but it's so hard to learn when you know essentially nothing beforehand.

I actually ended up finding a warlock locally thats a bit dinged up but I wanted to get back into playing that badly. I am gonna get repainted and refinished to be more unique for me but I got back into playing after a 12 year hiatus. its something I have been thinking about for the last few months but this scene alone was inspiration enough for me to pull the trigger and just go for it.

That’s so hilarious when you said that Joseph Quinn isn’t a guitar player. Then you said on the bottom of the screen, “He does play guitar. I’m such a d***.”. In one of the interviews he and co-star Jamie Campbell Bower did, Joseph sad that he played guitar. In fact, in a video I found here on You Tube, Joseph was seen playing the electric guitar along with a track of Master of Puppets. So cool! Please check out that video if you didn’t see that video. Speaking of Jamie, he’s an amazing musician who sings, plays guitar, piano and drums. Just want to let you know.

Played guitar properly for almost 3 years and I played on and off for 6 years. I’m not much of a metal fan, however they have some good songs. But when I seen this scent and this riff I had to learn it. Which I’m in the process of doing. The first riff isn’t too bad. Grasping it quickly but the rest of it will take a big step up. But if any other guitarists wanna learn that for the sake of stranger things or are considering it! Do it! I been at it two days and already the things I’d normally play have improved. I’m able to play twice as quick of what u normally now due to that! Deffo will impress my crush as she loves the show 😂

In that intro riff I believe he’s missing two notes at the end of that descending phrase. Also, Tye Trujillo plays the harder /more intricate parts of the song, most likely big chunks of the solo.

Check out the video where Joseph Quinn meets Metallica and gets to play that song with them and they sign and give him that guitar. He mentions that this is the only song he's been playing for 2 years, so I believe he really is playing.

Eddie played all the normal parts and the actual bass player for metallicas nephew or son played the solo....also it isn't that hard to play it so anyone with a couple of years should be well able to play it

Why is no one talking about how there's no way Eddie would've figured out how to play this song in the short time between its release and when this scene is set? He had no internet, and the (inaccurate anyway) tab book wasn't out til '88. Eddie must be some kind of prodigy to hear and hit that low F in Main Riff 2. It took my friends FOREVER to notice that.
