Gulda carries over his "Mozart god" qualities to this Beethoven piece, rendering it full of passion -- yet with elegance. Amazing interpretation indeed!!
To Jacob Rudduck: Well put, Jacob. I concur; the best Appasionata rendition so far. Each time I listen to it I "discover" something new; it's simply amazing.
Magnifique , un enregistrement de jeunesse, En 33 tours puis remasterisé en numérique (intégrale des sonates de Beethoven) . Dommage qu'il n'y ait que le 3eme mouvement ici.
Tempo "a la Richter"...impressive but impetuous. At this tempo parts of the Coda exude a muddled and meandering effect. More palatable "ma non troppo" as directed by the Master himself. Check Lang Lang's interpretation live in Vienna...you may be pleasantly surprised.
not SONG!!! Does anyone SING here? :D Pure instrumental pieces we call PIECES ;) And you are right. Not only on youtube ;) NO-ONE has ever recorded better Beethoven than Gulda. In my opinion.
Sorry man. No-one interpreted Beethoven better than Gulda. He recorded COLLECTIVELY all Beethoven's piano sonatas 4 times. And he has the right feeling for Beethoven. Lang Lang - I can't help myself - is an imitator or machine trying to produce some feelings. He has great technique including superb touch - fantastic sound quality - but I hate his interpretations. Gulda plays classicism exactly how it should be played. And he was also great jazzman ;)
