I think it looks like a nice, chill coastal town. I’m watching bc I’m thinking of moving to the area. I don’t care if I can’t get in the water, looks great for paddle boarding, kayaking, biting, and fishing. No risk of gators. I just need to be by the ocean, not in it. Yes, love love!! Ty for video, your wife seems nice.
Oh the harbor 🥰 I’m from North Carolina and grew up on the coast on Carolina beach with small islands that are always crowded sometimes almost shoulder to shoulder with people, no parking, and there’s a parking ticket waiting to happen over the smallest things. My fiancé is from Gulfport and I would take this any day over beaches near me. I can actually swim without the strong currents or getting taken down by a wave. I can grab a daiquiri from across the street, some fish tacos from shaggys and go have my own space on the beach and even throw the cast net out to catch mullet. They even have free fire pits along this beach. Thank you for this video because it makes me feel at home! ❤️
Im from New Orleans, but I lived in Dallas and I loved it. But if you wanna live somewhere alil more slow paced, but also beautiful place to live than here it is.
Not every coastal city is a beach retreat, many in fact, are not. Gulfport is a cargo port city, hence the name, Gulfport. The water is brown for a few reasons, silt from the MS River is introduced into the sound from nearby Louisiana, then you have the mouth of the Pearl River that drains out directly, and lastly, the barrier islands reduce sea flow into the Mississippi sound. This is not unique to the immediate area, it's also this way in several areas along the Gulf coast, from Texas to Florida.
Jose you spoiled with the Florida beaches… lol. I would live to see your reaction if you would see the beaches and water where I lived in Staten Island, New York..
I live here. The reason the water is "dirty" is because it is so shallow. It's not shocking to be out 4 or 5 miles and the water only be about 8 feet deep. There are also about 6 or 7 rather large islands about 8 or 9 miles out. All shallow between the islands and the beach. Yes, many hurricanes come here. No, I have never smelled gas in the air, must have been something going on that day. Great video!
Your only seeing down town and that is the Ms. sound ! Gulfport was built in the late 1890s for commercial and shipping. The city is three times the size of what you saw! He is too negative!!!
It was mentioned but Katrina did a number on that stretch. People are still weary of building there and insurance is impossible to get. I wouldn't necessarily think of Gulfport or Biloxi as beach towns. The local economy is not built around the beaches. It is mostly built around shipping and casinos.
I came here to visit a friend over 10 years ago. I'm a city girl, and for me...this was different. I fell in love with the beach. I had many plans to come back to visit, but financial reasons got in my way. Unfortunately, my friend I visited passed away recently. I might take a trip there one more time in his memory. 🙏🏾
This brings back allot of memories. I went there a year after katrina. And worked there at that hancock bank where you were stopped at by the train track. I stayed there for 2 years. Had a real life changing experience. Met allot of good people. I miss it
Mississippi Gulf Coast is the nicest part of the state. The first time I went down there after Katrina, I also noted that the only businesses open were casinos and Waffle Houses. There used to be a lot more down there prior to Katrina.
I worked in Gautier at the time. I rode down down HWY 90 after Katrina and everything 3 blocks inland was flattened. Nothing but slabs. And I remember the pirate ship which was on the water was across the road. Maybe the Treasure Isle Casino? I've honestly never thought of Gulfport as a "beach town".
Just a comment about your comments about a lot of vacant lots on the beach. Katrina took out most of the houses in the beach area. They came up with new building codes for building near the beach which sent the cost of building much higher than before. When you live on the beach it is so expensive to have hurricane insurance, it went up for all the coastal cities but on the beach most people could not afford to rebuild because of the new building code and insurance cost. I have lived in Gulfport all my life except while I was in the military. I thought your comment about how people drive in Gulfport was funny, my first thought is you must not have ever driven in a big city. I think you have, and I have also, driving in Gulfport is a picnic compared to New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington DC, San Francisco or Dallas just to name a few I have driven in. I did enjoy your video, Thank you. If it matters, I am 67 years old and have never wanted to live anywhere other than Gulfport.
@@audreyhead4418 Yeah, I go to Crystal Beach, Texas every year, the water isn’t perfect like Florida but it’s still relaxing and just right in my opinion, it’s not extremely dirty either
Dude you are so negative wonder how you talk to people off camera and I was up there about a month ago and there is no smell and its a beautiful place.
Those have to be some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen? Are they stoned or something? And yeah, it looks like a pig Beach like Naples fl. Can you go to Biloxi, Ocean Springs, or Pascagoula? Because I’ve never been to this area outside driving through it to get to N’Awlins. Also, say what you want to Katie if you think she was being weird, but we’re all weird. Fun fact: I LOVE the smell of gasoline, diesel, and oil. Looked kinda depressing.
mississipp and alabama coast got that dirty deep south look. Only way i know how to explain it is looks old and depressing that makes you feel like you went back in time to 1990
that's not true!! Alabama Gulf Shores water is clean, and the beaches are absolutely beautiful... restaurants are everywhere... IT'S PRETTIER THAN PANAMA CITY
Need to learn a little about the area before you make comments without thinking. Yes the Ms coast has the longest man made beach in the U.S. If you don't like it go home.
We've decided that to promote driving around flashing railroad crossing arms is too dangerous and this format isn't a great place to do it. Good luck with future subscribers, we will move on.
Lol...... Gulfport is not what it used to be at all. Quite boring to me, and it doesn't look important like back when. To me, its basically for old retirees! Good Video!!!!🤌
I live in saucier and work in Gulfport my office is like 3 buildings from behind the restaurant where you started Gulfport is terrible crime is up and there’s not much to do and traffic is terrible because of the population increase over the last few weeks
I been around since katrina hit now other people found me they need to chill out out their with facebook get that word out of the brain don't say facebook again you people need to learn not to mention anything about them traveling nobody needs to know what others do
This is probably the worst beach I've ever been to if your from here you know why not to really swim In that water. At least Pensacola is 2n half hours away
