It's horrible to imagine a golf course taking out those beautiful old trees hung with Spanish moss, replacing a deep and lovely culture with generic nothingness. Speak to us, Queen Quet, may your voice be heard.
I am from the Bahamas and it is great to hear you speak - it is just like us - We speak the same way - I have to visit your island sometime - I do hope you can hold on to your culture and be sure to pass it down to the children and impress on them the importance-
I never head or knew anything about Gullah Geechee, I am African American have never heard anything in school or saw in museums about this culture. I am 59 years old will be 60 this year and just within the last 10 year have I had the opportunity to sit under Queen Quet, introduced to me by Sis Sharon Marion, I am intrigues by the importance of remembering your heritage. I don't speak the language but something on the inside of me makes me understand what they are saying. For some reason I feel connected. I thank Queen Quet for keeping this culture alive, she represent it so well, not giving up her language as it it beautiful to me but stretching her self to be able to adapt in any environment around any people. I support you, I love you and pray much for you in your journey. Stay encouraged no matter the jealousy or haters or lack of understanding of many people. Keep on keeping on.
@@kbryant4985 it’s essential that we pass our cultural identity on to the next generation! It will keep the culture alive and give our children a sense of pride.
I love Gullah Geechee - Geechee language. I long to learn it. I was speaking it when I was little not knowing, it was our norm language. When we journeyed elsewhere is when we were told we talked funny.
I have never in my life been educated on the gullah people in South Carolina! The only thing I have heard in my 52 yrs is a song about gullah island sort of like a children's song back in the day. This here is just eye-opening now I am wanting to visit gullah Island in South Carolina!

I still have the shirt I bought after the movie "Daughter's of the dust" wayyyy back in the day! This is my next road trip destination. Hopefully I can volunteer to help work some of the farms. 🧘🏿♀️
I love this. My Daddy taught us about the Gullah Geechees when I was very young. I would listen intently and feel such a connection to these people. We took annual trips to the beach as a family, and there was one particular location we would pass by and he would say, " Those are the Gullah people in our lineage." The people would be on their front porches and wave at us as we slowly drove by. I always wanted Dad to stop so I could go into these people's house's and see how they lived. Call it being intrigued.

@Beautiful mil 2:30 into the video. That's what i'm talkin about. She's talkin about how things impact peoples health then they go to a guy with a cigarette in his mouth.
As someone who grew up in an Indian Residential School as a girl, I am so happy to hear that their are still people who are living from the land as the Creator has intended for it to be lived upon. Up here in 🇨🇦, the government is still handing over our virgin lands to developer friends whenever the mood for money takes them over. So hang tight to what you've got, 'cause once it's gone, there's no bringing it back. And thank you for continuing to hold on to these values, and living this lifestyle. You are helping to preserve Turtle Island in its original state. ✌🏽🧓🏽 By the way, the schools (and other atrocities) have been responsible for annihilating my father's Traditional Indigenous language of his people, because we were the ones that met with the new comers first of all. Take good care. 😊🧓🏽✌🏽
I know of my great grandparents (on both sides) being from Americus and Smithville GA and I just be wondering if the were at least influenced by the Gullah/Geechee cuz they talked like this. That part of Georgia isn’t the gullah/geechee corridor but maybe there’s influence💪🏾
As a Jamaican... Gullah Geechee is my connection ... letting me know... Slavery was a bitch!!!! If explain how these people sometimes sound like Jamaicans... explain that😏
Do my ancestors that I have met my grandmother is that way of all of them the things they talk about the things that they do I saw in my grandmother my grandfather I can relate with this so well
Queen Quet is really a remarkable and intelligent woman. Unfortunately, the gentrifiers will be along directly and the Gullah culture will be gone. Remember, gentrifiers will buy up the coastline first then starve you out.
Not to sound defeatist...in the past, I would say "you're probably right" Today I would say "UNLESS"...we beat them at their own game. It's really not that hard. The illusion and glamour of the past is now unveiled. 🧘🏿♀️
Just found out my grand parents are from this Island. I gotta go over there and see it. My dad kept it a secret. He never told me about it. So it's a bit of a mystery. On my mothers side we are Jamaican. Both sides have "jewish" beliefs. I really have some work to do.
You met Steph and I several time. (Wife of Ed Mack Jr.) Our mother is from North, S.C. She says "Yunna" . Some of her language is SO similar to yours. She says "Us" but you say WE. WOW. All from the SAME place, though. Awesome!
I read about the tax sale of Gullah Lands Oct 5, 2020 but also that the property owners have 366 days to pay back taxes and redeem the land. Here is the GoFundMe page. www.gofundme.com/f/panafricanfamilyem
To my Gullah/Geechees… The name Gullah is in the Strong’s Concordance Bible dictionary as a Hebrew name. Look in the Hebrew Language section on page 1353 and you can see for yourselves. Yah’ll (we) are Hebrews. Our names were not mis-pronounced as Angola or Golas although some of our ancestors were from there. The Spanish and English called us Gullah or GuYah (In spanish the LL makes a Y sound) because they knew who we were. Geechees are the Yamasee or Yahmassee (Yah) (Yahweh) who were also Hebrews and were called (Maroons, Guale, Yamacraw, Creek Aborigines) by the Spanish. Cum-by-Yah, Ah-ha-Yah, We-Ben-Yah (We Son of Yah), Hallelu-Yah.

Many Gullah Geechee lands are threatened by annual tax sales, the most recent of which was Oct 5, 2020. The community is working hard to raise funds to redeem the land - must be done within 12 months. Many of these areas are underserved with residents in low income professions and unaware of agricultural tax exemptions available. See more here www.islandpacket.com/news/local/article245917760.html. There is also a GoFundMe www.gofundme.com/f/panafricanfamilyem
Although it’s horrible to hear but the Most High is about to turn our captivity 2019 will mark 400 years as stated in Genisis15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;... So look for the hope of mass migration away from these shores after August 2019. Blessings
she is NO queen to da Gullah Geechee, She is NOT our queen! look at her face and C her spirit and soul for what e really is. Ur time is up and the Black Sun has come to bring out truth. Sinc you sold us out to your wicked beliefs, The real truth will reveal your secret parts. gullah queen of the wicked lies.
when i discovered her videos on youtube, i was curious to know who she really was outside the smiles and colorful outfits... something about her seems darksided..i respect her for keeping the culture alive as i learn about it.. but what is it about her? does she practice withcraft or something? i need to know because i pick up weird vibes as well... something about her face and her spirit is questionable
Nuthin is wrong with her, I have met her and her spirit is amazing. Don't judge nobody espcially your own people. To me she didn't sell out. She do, do for our people. Do u live on st. Helena island S.C. if not u don't know what we have gone through and going through to judge for from a video that was explaining our culture in our neighborhood.
