Kenny, Kenny, Kenny, OMG! My mom died in 2000 and the best thing that she ever made (to me) was her sweet potato poon! She only made it for holidays and she never taught me how to make it! But this recipe right here is the closest I've ever came to hers! I made the second one with the nutmeg and ginger (no molasses) and you are right, it does need more cinnamon! I did tweak it a little by adding two tablespoons of coconut powder to the milk and a little extra vanilla extract! I'm gonna keep working on trying to achieve my mom's flavor but this will always be my base recipe! Thank you, Sir!

I grew up in middle Georgia and remember my great grandmother, who lived with us, making this dessert. She loved anything with sweet potatoes. Thanks for the memories.

I have been trying to find a good recipe for this for years. My grandma(Low country,SC) used to make this all the time and she passed before I could learn. I always thought it was called sweet potato bread.

My aunt in (in Low country, SC) use to make tatta poon during winter Holidays. I recall grating the sweet potatoes and zesting an orange or lemon (depending on wat she felt like adding) . Then I went outside. I was more ofca tom boy back then (climbing oak trees and such.). I with I had learned how to prépare this.

Potato poon invokes precious memories of mom & grandma who made it often. I never liked the stuff, so I always said no thanks. They're from Ravenel, SC aka Moberry. Mom migrated to NYC. They're both deceased now. Thanks for the memory.

My grandma from Low Country SC,used to make sweet potato pone 😍however she always used cooked potatoes, no eggs. She used flour, vanilla, lemon extract, milk or cream and spices… a little sugar and baked it. Maybe a pinch of salt. But she just made it as she went and it turned out different every time lol, I was surprised to see versions made with just the grated potato. I will try this. Thanks so much for sharing! 🙌🏾❤
