I am so lucky to have stumbled upon this. I don't know what took so long to find out about the Gullah Geechie but what an incredibly rich heritage. I'm in awe.
That is a beautiful thing. Suffering brought too much tragedy, but also cultivated wisdom. There is something in the Bible about faith being forged in the fire of suffering..
How can your relate to struggle when you Beecher didn’t not experience generational slavery that lead for many African Americans to lose a lot of their heritage physically not genetically.
How is we should trust in a book they brought from Europe and gave to us to read? How is it you believe in their god but don’t seek to find who you’re god was before you met those who enslaved and dehumanized us? Seriously though my mom gets mad when I ask this question. I’m not saying their isn’t a god but who did we worship before we met them?
@@ronaldjackson8869"That book" came from the scrolls in Jerusalem where our forefathers came from. Our forefathers were kicked out for their continued disobedience to God's laws. Those wicked demons who enslaved us served as punishers for our disobedience. And they twisted the wording of the bible to fit their agenda..like they do everything else. All of the books of the bible were written by our forefathers, Israelites...who ARE BLACK PEOPLE. Those demons are going to pay.
I still have people in Orangeburg,SC. So many people in my family are indistinguishable from West Africans. I don’t need a DNA test to tell me where to trace my roots. I enjoyed the singing. Watched this twice.
Gullah we must restore our original African religion which is IGBO - ODINANI IBIBIO - INAM EDO - ELIMHIN MENDE - NGEWO (god) Just search the west African ethnic groups traditional religions and return back to it 💥💥🧬
It estounds me how strong the christian faith was/is amoung the old and modern african American communities. It makes me wanna go learn more about the origins of the Ame church and how Christianity spread thru slave populations.
Fascinating history. It forged a rich African American culture, also extraordinary moral and political leadership in today's America. 🇨🇦. Thanks for this documentary.
Well done! I visited Beaufort SC, and your video gave me a deeper perspective. Thank you for sharing the knowledge. One thing I wonder about is language. Although you said most came from Western Africa, weren't there are lot of different languages in that area of the world? If so, what did that do to their ability to communicate with each other? Anybody know where I can find out more?
Alot of gullahs have barbados roots for the first 200 years of slavery the salves came from barbados and Jamaica most don't know SC was a colony of Jamaica at one point too!
Apply for farm status. taxes are the reduced and the difference is deferred until someone wants to develop then ALL deferred taxes must be paid by the person who wants to develop. If this is some of the most expensive property in the US those taxes will mount quickly making it very very expensive to get any development project started. In some locations keeping bees is enough to qualify for farm status. In addition farms are subject to a whole new set of laws so there may be some new risk/reward there. This may not work but I believe it is worth investigating. Reply
Beautiful video. Just took me wayyy back to my roots in Charleston. Now live in Chicago. Most close relatives were from a little town call Dale, SC ( just north of Beaufort.) Great job!!!!!!
Emancipation from free slave labor did not change my surname from Mobley-Borden to ...? I was left with the Anglo European last name (even in marriage) as a reminder...
Born in Charleston , but moved to New York after my dad died. Attended schools Henry P Archer grade school, East Bay elementary School, Simonton Jr High and freshman year at Burke High. I miss my native city, but don't want to move back.
@@whitefreeman5798 you people who feel threatened anytime there is a discussion of slavery and want to insist that black Americans are indigenous to America
@@tvs9978 coming from a family that includes ancestry from black native americans i have to disagree.. if you knew what the term white freeman comes from it probably wouldnt have triggered you.. i personally think slavery is a terrible thing and wish it didnt still exist
@@whitefreeman5798 I never made any reference to "white freeman" and never even noticed that that was your handle until you pointed it out so sorry not triggered by anything. The point is those of you who esouse this indigenous stuff keep going round to channels talking about slavery pushing this agenda that you were already in America and your ancestors weren't taken there as slaves. Ie denial of history
My GGG Grandmother was from Senagal, my Twin, myself and my brother and my sister all carry Senegal DNA when we took our DNA test. My GGG Grandmother married a Planter in Fairfield South Carolina, they had 9 Children. Her daughter My GG Grandmother on the Census records was Mulatto married a Planter as well in Charleston. She had 10 Children. I have a copy of a Tin type of GGG Grandmother and a photo GG Grandmother.
I am an African America originally born and raised in Africa been visiting different former African towns all over the east coast now in mid west Missouri.
You are not African American, you are the race of people your parents are. My people are truly African Americans because we relate ancestrally to the slavery in the us, you cannot. Place does not change your ethnicity. Stop lying about your ethnicity
@@mrhimselfalone7657 You can. I understand the patterns have meaning representing family or community origins I think? So, one needs to respect what is appropriate or not.. But there must be generic colors and patterns too... I like the looser style for hot summers. They just make sense.
Our culture and heritage is and continues to be misappropriated or appropriated; so who will stop you? Nice of you to ask. Wear it proudly. Some people don't like our "crowns" and equate it with black mammy head rag wearing dolls, which they proudly collect.
@mrhimselfalone7657 why not think of it as someone just really loves the culture, and the beauty and would like to participate in it as well? Why is it some sort of theft or disrespect?
Smh First Lady of the United States? What do you mean? There were no women born in the United States other than those married to Presidents? See how obtuse that sounds? CLEARLY First Lady is a title of respect. Like Queen. You didn't know this? Really? I'm seriously asking you....
ENslaved workers did not dress up in fine clothing to do harsh dirty work like these actors (the ones sawing trees and dressed in vests and hats). They didn't even own fine stylish clothing like this!! Come on, people!
The Sea Islands produce the finest cotton in the world. Unfortunately it is not available i n commercial quantities As a hand spinner I had the good luck to acquire 2 ounces of it at a trade show. To spin it is like handling silk. The thread is so fine it can be even hard to see!
When we stop regurgitating history the way white historians have taught, then we'll begin teaching our true history. The Gullah are Guale... AMERICAN INDIANS
@user-ge8jr4sx8y I love myself, I'm just giving understanding. Gullah and Guale are the same. Of you really knew American history and modern American education, you'd inquire rather than throw repetitive lane ass insults... better yet, what tribe called gullah came from Africa?
@CopperJedi These people look African, they speak African, they cook African, they sing African lol...Like I said, self hatred rooted in a colonized mindset. The very existence of this community blows your false ideology out of the water. You people need to keep your delusions to yourself. Go visit a reservation if you want to see REAL indigenous Americans.
