I never disliked this series, but I never really caught back up on it until the show became available on Disney+. Knowing the history behind the initial idea (make a show based on candy) and what we got out off it, I can't help but be impressed by the sheer amount of world-building they pulled off. While the show was mostly episodic, they did rattle the status quo a bit now and then, and there is quite a bit of progression between the pilot "A New Beginning" and the final two-parter "King Igthorn".
me too seasons 1.2.3 are on dvd today but seasons 4.5.6 are the only ones missing and gargoyles seasons 1.2 are on dvd today too but only season 3 the goliath chronicles is the only one missing
The Gummi Bears. They were the kind of Bavarian bears depicted on the gummy bear package. They thought that's the style of Pinocchio and Snow White, so they went looking at archives at Pinocchio and took that heavy timbered kind of Bavarian look. Adventures of the Gummi Bears told the story of the descendants of a once-proud race of gummy bears who were driven from society by humans who were jealous of their magic powers. It aired on Saturday mornings on NBC, for 4 seasons and 4 years from 1985-89, then moved on for another season to ABC for 1 year from 1989 to 1990 airing alongside The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as the Gummi Bears-Winnie the Pooh Hour. There were ultimately 67 episodes of the show, which ended in 1990 before going into syndication on afternoon TV as part of Disney's weekday afternoon syndicated block The Disney Afternoon, with new episodes interspersed with reruns of previous ones. It was rerun on the Disney Afternoon through the summer of 1991. One month later, After the show was cancelled, it was shown on The Disney Channel (from October 7, 1991 to at least January 1997, and later on Toon Disney, with its most recent televised airing occurring on December 28, 2001. If we could have done a Season 7 (1991-1992), we would have gone across the sea to meet a whole new population of gummy bears, which would have been fascinating.
I remember the old Disney series back in the 90's when I was a kid, yes I do enjoyed these series like The Gummie Bears, Tales Spin, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, The Wuzzles,Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin , Hercules, Timon and Pumba, Gargoyles, House of Mouse, American Dragon Jake Long, Kim Possible and especially Mighty Duck. It's a shame they're not on TV anymore but at least they're on Complete DVD collections to keep the memories alive. But I still wished that The Wuzzles , The Little Mermaid, Aladdin , Hercules, Timon and Pumba, Gargoyles, Might Ducks, House of Mouse, American Dragon Jake Long and Kim Possible were finally on complete DVD collection at last as they're the only ones that weren't on Complete DVD released. I know some people say you can watch the old series on Disney+, but I don't have one and to be honest I prefer on complete DVD like Gummie Bears, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Dark Wing Duck.
For me, it was 'DuckTales' that got me on board with Disney TV animation because I've always wanted to see the 'Uncle Scrooge' comics in animation. While I've never watched 'Gummi Bears' at first, I did start watching it later on in it's run, and for what it's worth, it was a good series. Probably on par with 'DuckTales' in some respects. However, I think it was the bigger success of 'DuckTales', and the other subsequent shows that probably overshadowed 'Gummi Bears' after it first aired. Making it a bit underrated by the TV press. Given how certain people in the TV business don't look at it too kindly in retrospect, it does have a solid fan base. Otherwise, they wouldn't be asking why there hasn't been any more DVD releases of this show. So those people who think that 'Gummi Bears' are 'forgettable' are completely wrong because people still talk about it. Something like 'Adventure Time' may not be my cup of tea, but I do realize what it did for animation, and that it has a fan base. That being said, I could NEVER get into 'Regular Show', or 'Teen Titans Go', but If I had a choice between the two, I'd go with 'Regular Show' because 'Go' has already done enough damage.
I always liked to call Gummi Bears Smurfs with real individuality. I remember seeing this series when it first came on in 1985 and being impressed at the lavish budget it obviously enjoyed for great TV animation and good writing.
Looking forward to this. Thankfully I have the day off so YEAH! Gummy Bears is one show that holds up quite a bit from what I remember. Of course I didn't realize it was an ad for the candies but that was one of its strengths. It is weird recognizing voice actors though..back then I don't think they had to worry about using a similar voice for multiple characters but it does get distracting at times for me. Have a good day, sir! ^_^
My theory on Gusto is that he didn't just go off to an island to paint and then get trapped. He was on that island for 12 years! He was a child when he was trapped meaning he ran away. There was never an episode were Gusto was introduced to the other Gummies. He lives alone and with glimpse of his home its very modern. Basically Gusto had more to him then what we got. Note at the last episode all the Gummies were sad that they could meet the great Gummies except for Gusto. Because he is one! But the show ended before we could go deeper.
seasons 1.2.3 of the gummi bears are on dvd today but seasons 4.5.6 are missing i hope they will come soon to dvd to truly complete the gummi series like ducktales and talespin are now complete today
I barely remembered the Gummi bears because ive never really watched it but I do remember seeing bits and pieces of it and the opening theme was awesome but I didn't really watch this show as a kid, probably because by the time it was on Toon Disney, other shows had caught my attention and some of the other shows i watched happened to be on when Toon Disney was showing reruns of The Gummi Bears.
the voice of the young girl gummy bear is Katie Leigh she's been playing on radio show since 1987 call Adventures in Odyssey that she still playing the character Connie Kendall 😄
Also why is it in Kingdom Hearts they drive the GUMMI ship but the game never references the Gummi Bears?!!! That drives me nuts. That series has lore out the ass about every character yet can’t devote five minutes to Chip N Dale explaining the Gummi Bears created the Gummi ship tech
When I was a kid, I didn't care whether or not a cartoon or tv show had an interesting title, as long as it was a cartoon and looked remotely interesting, I'd watch it. I didn't care about animation quality either. You could've shown me something by Dingo and I'd probably like it to some extent.
10:24 To paraphrase My Life as a Teenage Robot's ever-quotable Brad, because when you start bragging about how it didn't squash you, you're basically asking for it to squash you.
Loved this show as a a kid, but I never could figure out exactly what everyone’s relationship to each other is. Is Gruffy the kid of Grammy and Zummi, are Sunni and Cubbi siblings, and who is their mom?
Update: This episode was really good. Looking back on news articles about certain shows can make one scratch their heads. The ones about Caillou though. My word it is a blood bath now. Dang the timing. I had to talk to my bank about something. No one's taking my funds...Anyway for the caption contest: Grammi, you're sure your latest batch didn't come from Canada? The premiere format was great though, maybe a future episode can have this again if you have time. Thanks again! ^_^
ducktales and talespin series are complete on dvd today the complete series of ducktales is on dvd volumes 1.2.3.4 and the movie is on dvd too and the complete series of talespin is on dvd volumes 1.2.3 today
I'm trying the new premier function on RU-vid. It's not very often I interact with fans during the video. Hopefully I don't have to work Monday so I can do a Q&A before the video premiers. With enough advertising beforehand, maybe I can get a good group.
@@Toonamp It's a shame that Kala is ignored these days because she's just as much a 'Disney Princess' as Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, ect. She deserves to be in 'Wreck-It-Ralph 2' just as much as the other princesses!
(After Disney buys Fox) Calli: Mmmm, gummy bears. Homer Simpson: Hey, quit hogging the line! Gruffi Gummi: I knew we should have stayed away from them! Zummi Gummi: You know, for once you're right.
+Toonamp, in the future, can you do DuckTales - History of Disney Television Animation, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers - History of Disney Television Animation, Darkwing Duck - History of Disney Television Animation, and Goof Troop - History of Disney Television Animation?
DuckTales will be in a next few videos. I'm going in order so I will be taking a trip to the hundred acre Wood before I review rescue rangers. And of course everything else will follow suit. I'll have a lot to say about darkwing duck. Especially how they messed up the broadcast order.
Being honest, season 5 and 6 are kind of bad and forgetable. Like, every single character just forgot their development and rules of the lore were constantly broken, maybe escept Zummi Gummibear
Greg Weisman has said that people would look at the name and think it was a Care Bears knock-off. Luckily now the show is getting the respect it deserves.
