I love how this shows the difference in ability between a regular skilled pilot and a newtype ace. The guy in the GM Command was an incredibly skilled pilot... But then you have Amuro here moving to dodge shots BEFORE THEY EVEN HAPPEN.
NewType pilot operating a suit almost as fast as he is. Horrifying combo. You dont really get that feeling in other stuff do you, it just feels like...what you've seen so far.
@@KillerOrca exactly it really shows how dangerous and skilled Amuro really was. I mean the speed is just insane. Dodging shots before you even pull the trigger and then he's already on top of you before you react really shows why zeon called him the white devil
Also helps the Gundam is a superior unit compared to the mass produced GM Command. It was the best suit they had, but even it couldn't keep up with the abilities of a Newtype pilot without the magnetic coating providing a little extra help.
Fun Fact: If memory serves correctly that is the same GM Command seen in 083 Operation Stardust. But yeah definitely shows just how scary it is going against a newtype and just how tough Char had to be to even hold his own against Amuro
@@scottprice4955 Not exactly. This was true at the beginning of the war, but GMs are basically Gundams minus the learning computer and Luna Titanium armor. Their specs match otherwise. Hell, the GM Sniper II and Gelgoogs are outright better than the Gundam (again, sans armor). The only reason it's survived this long and this well is because Amuro is a fucking demon in the cockpit.
Fed pilots really deserve more recognition, especially if you're such a beast of a pilot that you can systematically disarm and eventually take down a Gelgoog, technologically on par if not a little past the Gundam itself, in close quarters combat with a GM Command with a single saber.
TBF though the Gelgoog came into production way too late to make a difference and were mostly piloted by novices. Most of the experienced pilots were dead by then. If that Gelgoog was piloted by someone of the same skill level as that Fed pilot, the GM would've been annihilated.
@networknomad5600 Not at all, during the One Year War, the GM was superior to all of Zeons machines. With the Gelgoog being the only thing outmatching it, and even then, the Federation had answers to those in the form of the Sniper and Command series of GM, as seen in the video, were more than a match for the Gelgoog. The only reason we see GM's getting destroyed a lot was because of the newer pilots when they were first introduced. But by the end of the war the tides had turned and now Zeon had trainees in highly advanced machines while the Feddies have aces in the GM's. Ironically one of the few series the show how deadly GM's were was MS Igloo, even if it was a few scenes only.
This is exactly what new Gundam shows are missing. The fight animation and skill of the pilots are all clearly captured here. It's not just beam blasting and explosions. We are invested in the fight.
2:35 the use of that stock tension stinger made me laugh so fucking hard. That being said, when the perspective flipped over to the Zeon pilots, that's the best depiction of how facing a New Type, in a gundam no less, must be like a horror movie monster for even your best non-newtype aces, god damn
I love at the end of both pilot's little adventures they both stare out at the battlefield with this melancholy look. As if asking "What are we even fighting for." It's that *human* aspect that gets you.
Imagine being just a regular zaku pilot during the battle of a baoa qu and you here this on the radio: "Gundam spotted, repeat gundam spotted in our location! fall back, fall ba---!(static)"
Holy Crud!! They actually acknowledge pilots needing to leave to refuel as opposed to being killed before running out, writer's wanting some melee action animated or the characters winning before they run out. I know we some instances of characters running out of ammo, but the just toss the gun and break out the beam sabers or heathawks instead of trying to retreat. Granted most battles we tend to see are more or less a small cast so we're given the impression that going back for a refill simply isn't an option. Top it off with beautiful animation and keeping this within canon without focusing on the big stars and it leaves me craving for some full on OVA series in a vein similar to the 08th MS Team. It's the One Year War, but we follow another group and see things from their perspective. A GM pilot seeing the Gundam fly by or maybe seeing a lower ranked ace facing off against one with a better reputation. Even some quirky moments of some rookie trying to decal his GM would be fun to see. I guess that I just want to see as much of this franchise as possible and the One Year War alone has enough potential for a lot of fun stories that would be great animated. I know that we have manga and canonical videogames that delve into this kind of thing, but I can't find most of those in English, even good fan translations, so I primarily rely on what I can find on wikis and RU-vid for this kind of thing.
DaxterDude2 not exactly that. Its a different focus of the story that includes a bit of aumuro along the way. It starts much sooner than the original. Its a story that overlaps and includes. Still either way, it's a treat and educational not just the happenings of the oobs year war; but how it all began.
A good place to start would be the classic Novel Trilogy, Awakening, Confrontation and Escalation. The Origin messed up the UC continuity, especially by not quite understanding Zeon Zum Deikun's role in the lore, making the Zabis super-villains as it is implied that they let Revil escape as a plan for world domination, and it so on. Gundam is need of a reboot.
Zeon went from not even being able to comprehend the idea of a mobile suit with a beam rifle to somehow compressing multiple beam weapons into finger tips over the course of like, a couple months or so.
+Jdh87 Like how zeon developped the MS and the federation stole intact zakus and created the GMs ? Exept that the federation improved it and made a well better MS
+Jdh87 To be fair they were working on miniaturization of beam weaponry for months. E-cap just wasn't the original image of the project. They wanted self sustaining energy weapons, like in their mobile armors and aqua units. Not something magazine based.
This anime is so cool but yet scary to live in like imagine being in a fleet and see a zeon mobile suit coming towards your way, imagine how scared they were.
Thats why my favorite is the UC gundam story line it does a fairly good job of showing there was no clear cut good or bad side in the war which makes it fairly more real. Although as a fan I have to say I am pro zeon =P
probably because the GMs were the Federation's military response to the Zaku and were designed effectively to be the usual trooper's choice. I can say that the feeling of beating a gundam while piloting a zaku I is a lot more of a high than just playing the Gundam variants because they're like "Bruh, I don't even have to try."
Nah, check out the fight for E Field and N Field of A Baoa qu in MS Igloo. That shit was brutal. Child soldiers in modified pods, last ditch prototype Mobile-armors and I distinctly remember a Zaku pilot screaming for someone to get him ammo and two Doms trying to find a ship to re-arm on.
Max Brandt I want more MS Igloo style gundams, no more kids in super-special one of a kind gundams. I want fully grown (or child conscript) soldiers in a real war, no plot armor nonsense, no new-type hacks, no special suits, just the pure death and chaos of war.
They need to make this a full on series including animation and battle scenes like this throughout. Even the new ‘Origin’ didn’t have as much combat as I would’ve liked.
The Beam Spray Gun to Gundam, is like the Imperial Lazgun to 40K. Just one won't do much. But a *trillion* of them is, well, watch the results for yourself.
@dchris1990 The federation pilot (forgot his name) is just in shock that the ship was destroyed. Nothing much more to that scene. and at 5:15, long story short Erik (the guy piloting the gelgoog) is asking how the battle is going. The guys in the ship are keeping the fact that Zeon lost a secret for now, because they know Erik will overreact and get himself killed in battle. Hope that helped ^^
@@HaloFTW55 I think the Nu Gundam was superior to the Alex, actually. Since the Alex wasn't Pscyoframe carrying. It was just an updated RX-78 with CHOBAM
man puts facing the gundam from the zeon side into perspective... I rememeber every federation vs zeon map that you had to face him it was so tense. 2-3 shots and you were dead. 2 Beam saber hits TOAST.
Meanwhile in Cosmic Era, GuAIZ got the short end of the stick, GuAIZ R becomes the Barzam of SEED Destiny. The fact that GSD started aired when Gundam celebrate its 25th anniversary doesn't help much either. It got sidelined by milestone celebration of CE ZAKU Warrior and GOUF Ignited. They could've just made them straight up as kits for the anniversary.
+CRocketSlim While I agree for the most part, I think universes that actually TRY to be differnet are still worth watching like Build Fighters and G Gundam
+InfernoScorpion14 I have to admit to being burnt out on alt Gundam universes, but if I ever get over that I'll have to give those series an honest shot, thanks :)
Well G Gundam is basically Street Fighter but if it had Gundams and everyone can go Super Saiyan. It's more of a Super Robot/Shounen anime Build Fighters is about people who build Gunpla and make them fight. Think Megaman.EXE but instead of virtual pets it's Gundam model kits.
+CRocketSlim Different timelines to experiment with different ideas of the future. G Gundam is street fighter tournament with giant robots on earth instead of full fledged war in politics. Gundam X is a what if the U.C. colony drop fucked up so badly and turned the world into a apocalypse. Gundam Seed is pure race war unresolved. Gundam Turn A humanity on Earth bombed itself so many times that they revert to Victorian era. Gundam Age is what would a 100 year war spanning 3 generations look like. Gundam wing is about terrorism, soldiers being pawns, and how can peace be truly achieved. Gundam 00 is about a powerful organization serving as peace keeping force between 3 superpowers attempting dominance over each other for petty reasons.
