The most uncomfortable truth is that the 'bad guy' is going to be much more experienced and comfortable with being the bad guy, than you are at defending yourself.

@philliplopez1501 2 месяца назад
My uncomfortable gun truth is the fact that you may be in a gunfight, or more specifically on the recieving end of a gunfight, and you may never have a clear, clean shot back at the enemy. You see, the enemy doesn't mind killing you. But, he is well aware that giving you a chance to fight back will result in you killing him. So, he will never willingly give you the chance to return fire. Even if that means he shoots first and then runs away. Then, when you try to engage the bad guy anyway, we begin to have to worry more about friendly fire than we did about the enemy himself.

I've been in the combat arms and in urban law enforcement. With the exception of two armed bank robbers I took down; I can't think of an armed suspect encountered beyond the length of a car. Most were within 3 feet or less. Civilian engagements at distances fitting an 11B better come with a good story. Stay in good physical shape and maintain situational awareness. Trust your gut. God gave you instinct. Don't talk yourself out of it. Don't let your pride keep you from disengaging and walking away from a potentially serious situation. Appreciate your videos. Very good advice.

Great video, as most are. Gotta be honest brother, I disagreed heavily with the not stockpiling fmj, but thats the thing about this country, we all have different opinions, as well as different situational requirements. I dont have to agree with everything you say, but i agree with a lot. I appreciate you taking the time to make videos and give your thoughts and experience based input. As well as giving your personal reasons behind it. To the keyboard commandos in the comments that trash this dude for his opinions, set up your own youtube channel, take time out of your life, buy the cameras and editing software, get some real world experience under your belt, open yourself up to hateful comments, and give a solid counter-argument. The FMJ I have had been extensively tested, by me, on actual "stuff." And the FMJ I have did really well compared to most of the HP I tested. But there are some caveats and astricts and I need to do my own video on my own experience. But most of where I'm excited about "FMJ" is where I have a rifle, with a real rifle length barrel, pushing 5.56 velocity. With pistols my experience is mostly with HP and I'm happy with those results (vary happy with XTP in various rounds). My wadcutter experiences were good and my 1 FMJ pistol experience didn't leave me happy. I'm still not sure if the issue is "you didn't hit anything" or "you hit but it still took off into the hills." 22lr sucks balls. If I had to be hit with something, that's the one I'd want to be hit with. Well, that and birdshot. But birdshot from 5-10 ft makes a dent.
@dothedewinme
@dothedewinme 2 месяца назад
Agree. I have a few thousand of fmj, allows me to train more and I slowly buy boxes of the good stuff. However I don’t really shoot those often, just enough to know how each one shoots out of what rifle. And if I’m in a position where I NEED to use a few hundred rounds of 3 different types of defensive ammo I stock. Then I’ve definitely done something wrong I needed to not be where I am a LONG time ago.

@@woodsghost9088 what do you test on? I had a bunch of fruit from a family orchard that was going bad. 22lr round nose would go right through it without much effect. Hollow points on the other hand would explode the fruits. It was crazy how much of a difference there was.
@joemama69448
@joemama69448 2 месяца назад
My line of thinking is that I don't stockpile ammo for 'shtf', I stockpile ammo because one day it will either be highly regulated or painfully expensive and I want to continue to practice shooting. So for me I buy as much FMJ as I can when the prices are low so I can shoot even when the prices are high.

FPE matters, always. Hollow points allow said energy to be dumped into the target ASAP. Grains are good to know, and can be roughly used, but without calculating FPE with grains and velocity, it’s just an arbitrary statistic. This is why 150 grains from a .308 does more damage than 150 grains from a 9mm, 10mm, .40, .45, etc. Ballistics and bullet advancements had an effect on all types of ammunition in all calibers. I’m not arguing against a 9mm, and while I don’t think it’s the “best” caliber, I carry one every day, everywhere in town. I pretty much agree on all else, not that you care what I think.

Disabled with line of duty injury, but survived. Had 16 years in on the road, during that time I attended several officer involved shootings, suspect autopsies, so I developed an entire new view of ballistics after seeing what certain projectiles do to a human. 99.9% of gun channels are unwatchable due to ballistic tests and so many unrealistic beliefs. When i was younger I used to stagger rounds. To be fair it was because I shot a windshield at an adverse angle with a hollow point and it simply ricocheeted off. Seeing this I figured it had to be that the bullet had deformed on impact and because of the deformation it didn't pennatrate. That may have been true, but having shot at another windshield with full metal jackets and getting near enough identical results I figure that my first conclusion was probably flawed. It was more the angle than the projectile.

I have a lot of experience with perforating hides. 22lr is great for something under 2 lbs. For something 20 lbs or larger, I need 5-7 connecting rapidly to get the desired speed of expiration. I've hit in the vitals with a single 22 and 30 minutes later it was still among the living. So 7 friends later, things were brought to a end. What I think is going on is when you reach a certain size, it's better to use the 22lr like a shotgun and send a stream/cone if time is of the essence. Otherwise, sure, send one and wait 30-60 minutes. I have no argument with someone who says "CNS hit!!!" Yes, if you can hit a dime or quarter, and have deep knowledge of the anatomy, and can take your time, go for it. For defensive use, if I had to choose between 22 and almost anything else, I would choose almost anything else. Between a 22 and a sharp stick? There are a lot of sharp sticks I would trust more than I trust the 22lr in a defensive situation.

My reflexes aren't quite what they used to be, and I can be safe with my weapons in other ways (e.g., never place your finger in the trigger guard until ready to fire, never draw upon anything that you don't want to destroy, etc.). I carried a rifle for a living for long, long, long time. My father owns a gun store. My late wife was Army as well and then a RO in civ life. My wife now is a Navy vet. I also ran a firearm parts manufacturing business. With all that I hated the M9, especially with 115 gr ball. Now I understand it’s 124. I had the option to carry a 1911 and did so. I then did so with a J frame back up. However I was a rifleman and a pistol is all ways a back up for that work and frankly if I’m using a pistol the S has hit the fan. In civ life I carried the same and did so for more then a decade. However I started loading 124gr JHP just under +P and hit a beautiful node. I carry that now and to the shock of everyone, a striker fired pistol. My follow up shots are faster as it’s not snappy like a 115 gr, at least to me. I could seriously shot a 1911 with ball way better and faster then a 226 or M9 with 115 so that’s what I used at work and in the US. I still have the J frame but have some pet loads for that too. I would rather someone shoot what they have well then worry about caliber. Heck my oldest son carries a 40, my father like me converted from .45 to 9mm. With hand loading though you can taylor rounds to specific guns or people. Granted not everyone has the time, money, and a private range like I do. 4:47

I know some decockers can malfunction on different handguns and fire after lots of decocking and dry fire to the quarter cock notch or when someone added after market stuff that needs adjustment and brains. But on a Beretta the pin is out of the way. There are still malfunctions. Saw a few run auto through mags. I vivdly remember someone decocking 75BD on the shitter before reholstering and it got loud for a moment.

here's an uncomfortable truth; there might come a time. In fact. Everytime you leave your safe confines. You have to accept the fact that you might not come back or might end up in a situation that will have a life-changing result or suffer a traumatic incident or have an experience that will change how you view others, or you may end up having to live with that experience for the rest of your life and now your life is so much different after the fact. You leave "the wire" you might not come back. You might not come back in the same condition you were before. You might lose a good friend in the conflict, someone you care about, or your family and might bear witness to such morbid and disturbing actions or see something you dont wanna see ever and it will haunt you forever. Such as seeing your loved one take a round to the dome or get severely injured and suffer that injury. You might be faced with a hard decision between risking the life of your loved one or succeeding the mission. Or save one or the other. You will see betrayal. You will see people's mental capacities cease rationality or reach a limit and breakdown. You will see failure, you will be sometimes be blamed for that failure. You will make a mistake that results in loss or death of someone on your team and now you have to explain to their family what happened and went wrong. You will see other's make mistakes and might have to stand up and call accountability on them for not following the rules. You might end up having folks on your team become unwilling to heed your advice or any advice of others because they think they know better. You might have to kick some people off your team in order to ensure safety and success in your operations. You will deal with politics, you will deal with drama and quarrels that might be against someone on your team, or against you. You will have to deal with sabotage, mutiny, and slander. And did I say Betrayal? yes that will happen alot. People will backstab you if it can benefit them. The fewer gunfights you get into, the better.

Can we please stop getting our ladies these tiny .380s or snubby 38s? I've noticed this trend in .45 guys. They wouldn't be caught dead with anything 9mm, but somehow believe 38 and 380 work more efficiently and effectively in the hands of a woman. I completely understand that my wife won't carry a full size Glock 17 like I do. That's why I bought her a 43x.
@Ovokor
@Ovokor 2 месяца назад
The whole don't be switching systems a bunch, I have used an old 1911 and M&P with a thumb safety so disengagement and hand placement is auto for that. Due to grip angle on a Glock I used one on a drill and I missed at a distance of what I consider easy because I forgot to compensate for the different platform considerations. Lights you can 100% go to bright, Rifle mounted light 2,000 lumens had it pointed at my ceiling in a semi-dark room and I saw spots and had momentary vision issues. Inside stuff I think 400-800 lumens is about right. 357 in 16" barrel does amazing things compared to a small revolver. The myth that bugs me the most is in a SHTF having 10 mags and being super overt, In most situations there is going to be a much stronger force that you may not want to fight that would 100% strip that equipment off of someone. Lets say a hurricane hit and its really bad and violent crime is really bad, LEO trying to regain control see a dude in a building decked out who is not government, yeah they are going to have a chat with them.

For the intelligent people that think defensive ammo is just marketing BS and hard ball ammo will do the same job, how many big game hunters do you know that use FMJ ammo? You know, some people that believe the John Wick, video game and some YT BS are just too stupid to be allowed out in society, much less carry a firearm!

Biggest one for me is 9 mm is just as effective as 45... "FBI tests prove it"... Yeah, NO! In real life shootings, it takes an average of 6-9 hits with 9 mm to stop the threat... It takes 1-3 of 45. After talking with trauma physicians and other medical professionals from a local trauma center, they agree, 9 mm is less effective, generally than 45. Most 9 mm shooting victims survive, most 45 shooting victims do not... Your mileage may vary. And yes I do carry and shoot 9 mm, I just don't mislead myself into believing FBI misinformation.

Hey man what’s your take on 115 Gr JHP’s for defense? I’m running 115’s because I can easily find 115 grain FMJ’s to train with. Should I be running something heavier?
@leewilkinson6372
@leewilkinson6372 2 месяца назад
The theory goes that the more important feature of the bullet is how well it dumps energy into the target. So hollow points will be better than fmj, less likely to go through the target. Most 9mm hollow points start at about 124 grains for some reason I don't know, but I'd say get some of those. Shoot a few every couple.of weeks so they dont surpirse you(they can recoil differently), but use the 115s for mag after mag of practice. That's my 2 cents.
@QTIP95
@QTIP95 2 месяца назад
@@leewilkinson6372 that makes sense thanks. I also just don’t wanna train with a different weight than I carry
@leewilkinson6372
@leewilkinson6372 2 месяца назад
@QTIP95 I understand completely. That said, I've found that learning to manipulate the weapon correctly is about 90% of the battle....which can be done with cheaper ammo. I do shoot a couple of magazines of defense ammo on a regular basis though, as it does shoot just a bit differently, to reinforce your point as well. In fact, my hollow points are usually more accurate.

Uhhuh. So, if 9 mm is as potent a stopper as .45, explain me why, when I shoot my Glock 19 at small steel targets, they hardly make a sound and barely move. But when I shoot the same target with .45 they ring loud and spin around. No statistical bs! Common sense shows the difference.
@unclefreedom213

Low mass high velocity vs high mass low velocity. Do what you want but I will still take 17 in a mag of 135+p over any 45 acp you can conceal. And ye it's true there is little to no difference between the wound characteristics of the rounds

I have a buddy that won’t carry with a loaded chamber,says he is just gonna rack the slide if he needs it. He went and got a new 365 with the plastic sig dot on it, he will carry it sometimes and has never shot it. I tried to tell him shooting with a dot on a pistol takes alot of practice and he should atleast dry fire. His other buddy was in the military and approves of all the crap he is doing and I’m just Joe Schmo what do i know? The only people that believe this crap are the people who carry psa daggers with the magpul Glock mags because they made it through 50 rounds and “never had an issue”. To the people that stagger rounds 1 hollow point then 1 fmj so on and so on, what are you going to do with that fmj round if you don’t want the penetration? You going to rack the slide and kick it out onto the ground every time? You going to pop the fmj into the dirt and get back on target? If you’re in a crowded area and an active shooter situation breaks out it’s gonna be bad. Get a good pistol/holster,carry it hot, get a shot timer,take a class or watch a ton of informational videos on YT, dry fire once a week minimum,get a shot timer and shoot as much live ammo as you can with a purpose. *Nick Irving (demo ranch buddy the “reaper” who was a military sniper) said that shit about 50cal blowing off you face from just passing by. I’d assume because the round would just pass through a person they see the hole in the wall and think they missed.
