The tories can barely run the country at the most basic, fundamental level, yet they have managed to ban a relatively obscure, exotic plant. That figures.

I've got a massive one by my pond. Bamboo is the menace they should ban.

Beautiful looking plants its a pity they cant be planted out. They would look great on the side of your wildlife pond.

Well that’s interesting,I have two gunneras in my garden they have been in a few years and have never spread,so I’m not sure about this Information that you have found but I will keep my eye on my plants o see what happens . Thanks very much.😊

Hi Sandra. I've had them in the ground previously and they haven't been invasive either. However I think parts of Ireland are completely overrun with it. Mark

Great video Mark, very clear on the rules. It’s a shame they have been banned as others have said the cryptica hybrid doesn’t appear to be very invasive and can easily be maintained in one’s own garden. I can think of dozens of much more invasive plants that aren’t banned like running bamboo. I wonder if it might be possible to reintroduce the true Gunnera manicata from Brazil again at some point in the future and then only allow propagation via suckers rather than seed so that it doesn’t hybridise with any existing cryptica?

Hi Peter. How are you? Yes I fully agree, I think a national ban is overkill. I'm hoping it gets relaxed. I wish I'd planted them last year before the ban. It's a shame. And I grew about the bamboo too. That's incredibly invasive

Thanks Daphne. I did this mainly because I wanted clarity for myself too and thought I'd share it. Mark

It's a frustrating situation as for the majority of those planting gunnera in our gardens, it is in no way invasive. As far as I know it's only become a problem in certain parts of the west coast of Scotland. I made a video pondering in what to do with one that I recently dug up - a beautiful specimen plant which will now go to waste.
@MarksHouseandGardenUK
@MarksHouseandGardenUK 12 дней назад
I agree. I've been nurturing these to go by the pond and now they'll just get pot bound and be wasted.

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK could you get larger pots and eventually dig up, chop it back, and root prune and start all over again?

Many people are saying this and that it isn't invasive.

Can the pots be sunk into the earth or would the roots eventually work their way out of the bottom and somehow wreak havoc?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK
@MarksHouseandGardenUK 12 дней назад
Hi Christina. I think that's a good solution yes. I did that originally. I think it's the flower spikes which cause the problem rather than the roots. I may resort to that in the end. Thanks. Mark
