This was recorded 2 days after Glen Campbell died, one of the best singers of this song. This is a great tribute by G&R. Axl sounds great, as do Slash, Duff and the boys! Cool shit
This performance was breathtaking. To take on one of the greatest song by perhaps the greatest american musician speaks to the skill and talent of axel and guns
I had the priviledge of seeing them perform this live in Tennessee last year. This song always reminded me of my old man. One of the best linemen in the country. Still on the line
The best version of this song you will ever hear is from the band called "a girl named Tom" on The Voice look it up on RU-vid you will not be sorry! Their harmonies will blow your mind.
This is one of my favorite sings. I was afraid that the notes might be beyond Axl’s range, now. But, boy - he nailed it. And, I always thought Slash’s Spanish-guitar influence would fit this song perfectly - and, it did. I’d love to hear an entire album of Jimmy Webb covers by G ‘n R.
Did. Not. See. This. Coming. GNR covering Whichita Lineman and knocking it out of the park? Much respect to Axel and company for paying tribute to one of the best musicians ever! RIP Glenn Campbell.
You've probably heard this Carol, but I'll shoot you the link anyway. This is Jimmy Webb ( who wrote the song). It's my favourite version. REM do a cool version too, it's also on RU-vid. Cheers- you have good taste in music! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4LdtbAFqdsI.html
I think Axl's voice changed with age in a way that it doesn't even suit his own songs very well anymore, but then with covers like this he proves he's still got it, but maybe his older self is just better with a different genre, something softer just like this which he performed incredibly well!
Well, for heavens sake !!!! What a wonderful job Axl did with this song !!! Should be proud of himself!!! But then again, Axl always seems to do anything he sets his mind to !!!!!
@@timsanderson5572 Fun fact, Glen plays the solo on a Bass VI, a six string guitar one octave down from a normal guitar but still tuned E to E. He used a Danelectro Bass 6 in the studio and a Fender Bass 6 in the video.
Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect but whatever it was, I was pleasantly surprised. They did such a NICE job and Axl's voice sounds great. I love that he added a few nuances that made it his own but still respected the soul of the original arrangement. Beautiful.
James Tull was my father. In December of 1973 he was electrocuted with 169,000 volts for 18 seconds and lived. He worked 33 years for the power company after that. Every time I hear this song I think of my daddy.
So cool! Gnr has always been my band...my mom used to play Glen Campbell in the car...now she listens to this with me and loves it!!! Lol...got my 70+ y/o mom to be a guns fan after all😁😁 she loves them all now lol
This is one of the best covers EVER! Axel pulled this off live better then anyone I've ever seen or heard. Yeah, I'm partial to this song. it has one of the most heart-felt romantic lines ever written - "Because I need you more than want you... And I want you for all time..." Chokes me up every damn time.... Miss you, Janine. Rest easy, baby....
Got to give the band props for courage here. When metal bands cover actual well-written songs with good lyrics they usually fall on their face. Their fans aren't used to that.
Huawei is a criminal organization. ‘Weak solo’ No matter the genre...simplicity or complexity... Other than maybe only 7 or 8 guitarists... anyone would be pretty hard pressed to do a worthy guitar solo up to the standard of Glen Campbell. It’s not even about precision or accuracy, or musicianship. When he wanted it to, Glen Campbell’s guitar playing didn’t generate emotion; it was emotion. He played in a way that can’t be taught and experience or practice can’t provide. He generated ‘feeling’ with guitar strings that only a modern day Bach could reproduce. So, ya, kudos due here.
You picked the wrong "metal band" this time, dude. You will not and could never, find better song writers than Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. Bar none. You can name plenty in their league but you won't name any better. Clearly you haven't listened to any Guns N' Roses. Put some respect on that name.
I love this Glen Campbell song and I have been listening to it a lot lately. I just found this video of Axl singing it. I love his voice and all his albums so this was a real treat and a wonderful tribute to Mr. Campbell.
Glen Campbell influenced performers across different genres. Legend is that Eddie Van Halen asked Alice Cooper (friend and golf partner of Glen) to arrange a private guitar lesson. That says so much.
Not many people know but Glen Campbell was a phenomenal guitar player he was sought after by slash,Alice Cooper, Eddie van Halen, and a myriad of the best for his knowledge and teaching, them to play their music their way. You'll never be forgotten old friend your in my thoughts daily anonymous
The respect shown here is incredible. Next to the original, this is the very best. If only Glenn Campbell could have heard it. He surely would have been brought to tears.
Showing respect for a brilliant musician and a brilliant songwriter. Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb. Tells us about the depth of the musicians- they’re much more than a Sunset Strip rock band.
Won tickets to this tour they played like from 7:30 to 11: 45 long awesome concert! Drove 2 1/2 hous to work changed into my work clothes in the parking lot never slept totally sober! Worth it!
I'm glad they did this Country-Pop cross-over classic. I think maybe Axl is trying to prove that he is actually capable of singing grown-up songs......the kind that don't involve screaming. Not a bad job though. It's nice to hear what Axl's natural singing voice sounds like.
