This song is absolutely brilliant! I can just see myself in the halls on DooM looking for keys and everything it's so freaking nostalgic! Born in '89 and proud
One thing fun that I discovered about a lot of Gunship songs is that they slip in lines from older songs. The one I spotted in "Doom Dance" is "Can you hear me call, can you hear me call your name?", which is from the song "Burn" by The Cure, which was included on "The Crow" movie soundtrack.
"retrowave", and they aren't the only ones doing it. personally, i love the hell out of The Birthday Massacre. their cover of "Neverending Story" is just fun as hell.
Dude, GUNSHIP is their own genre. If this is your first album of theirs you have a lot of awesome songs to discover still. They are consistently excellent at whatever they attempt.
First off......O-H!.... But seriously...I love GUNSHIP so much. Carpenter Brut is amazing on their own, too. You should check out Widowmaker. That song is badass, too.
Re: the cat girls... The reference you missed was 'dominion tank police'. Gunships vhs box art for this track was replicating the theme of 90s adult manga entertainment company. My personal favourite ;)
Check out Empress of the Damned, Tech Noir 2, or Holographic Heart for more greatness from the new album. They all have more sax from Tim Capello (who played sax for Tina Turner and appeared in The Lost Boys)
Alex Westaway is the singer with Alex Gingell, and Dan Haigh doing most of the Instrumental parts. They do a lot of Collaborations, but most of the music is theirs.
