Well I think I can just stop RU-vid now..... @gunshipmusic seen one of my videos... I can die a happy man. I appreciate all that you do, I think you've helped a whole lot of folks realize/remember exactly what its like to be happy, hopeful and never give up on your dreams (even if they are dark ones.) Please keep doing what you are doing, you music is very needed and appreciated! Helping hearts Never Die!
This song is a complete banger. Gunship is my favorite synthwave artist, from the vocals to the perfect instrumental tracks. Can't wait for their new album drop.
They went through the rolodex for this one. Brought out all the Gunship extended family. Capella, Tyler Bates, Milkie Way and f’n Dave Lombardo. Perfect.
The first song I heard from Gunship around 2 years ago was Tech Noir, and I was immediately hooked. Dark all Day is an instant go to, with Indiana front lining the lyrics for that song. Even though I am way late in listening to your review, I will say that every song they have released is amazing. And they are my immediate playlist for my weekly D&D prep sessions.
Like you, I found these guys by accident while listening to The Midnight. Gunship has definitely changed my life in all the best possible ways. And they are now my favorite band. Also, check out The Midnight - Sunset. It's definitely a classic.
I found Gunship after hearing the intro to Stranger Things (which is what got me into Retro-Synth). A few months later, and TONS of synth songs on spotify, and then BOOM - "Tech Noir" by Gunship pops up and it's all written after that. This was back around 2019-2020. I'm still a little sad that the creators for Cyberpunk 2077 didn't find Gunship while working on the game. So many song's would have fit perfectly in that game.
Brother, this song just keeps getting better each time I listen to it. It's that way with so many of their songs -- so much happening, and you know it's great the first time listening through, but the details begin to sparkle the more you listen. Just brilliant. Thank you for this video. A pleasure experiencing music with you.
Thats about the same timeline that I got put on them and have been hooked horrible also!!! I haven't been this excited for a new album in a long long time!! Thanks for the comment!
I believe Gunship is mainly just made up of 2 members. Alex, the vocalist, and one other person that is more so behind the scenes doing most of the synth work and other instruments (his name alludes me atm). In this song/video the "other members" you see are guests: Tim Cappello (sax) - You know who this is already obviously lol Dave Lombardo (drums) - Drummer from the thrash metal band Slayer Tyler Bates (guitar) - Soundtrack composer who is well known for composing the score to The Watchmen and John Wick movies (he has also composed for other movies and even some video games) "Milkie Way" (female vocals/bass guitar) - I recently found out who she is myself, and she is from a new band/group called Wargasm that seems to be releasing their first full length album in October not too long after the new Gunship album drops. I checked out a couple of their songs, and while not really my thing, I think they have the potential to get pretty big as they have a pretty unique blend of different styles/genres within their sound. Both Dave Lombardo and Tyler Bates already collaborated with Gunship previously on the song "Berserker", which was featured on some sort of DC Comics soundtrack a year or so ago.
immediate banger imo. It feels additive to their sound.. they are taking a slightly more rock approach to it without losing their core sound and as another commenter said "Ghost" was the perfect October song, this is a perfect summer song. It has a high tempo, high energy feel to it even if it is melancholic.
The guitars are mainly present in this song because Tyler Bates is a featured guest on guitars. For a similar more "rock" vibe style of Gunship check out the previous collaboration between Gunship and Tyler called "Berskerker".
I had never heard of them until this weekend when RU-vid recommended them after I watched the latest Wargasm video (Milkie Way in the band). I was blown away, literally haven't been as excited about hearing a new song for many years. I think The Anix "Come Back Down" the last time back in 2018. I've been listening to this on repeat ever since. The synth/guitar/saxophone and pure energy of the middle 8 is a dopamine overload for me. I can't get enough! Glad somebody has made a reaction video to it. I really hope this is successful and picks up airplay, it deserves to be a monster (pun intended) hit!
I listened to this song 6 minutes after they uploaded it lol. Another Freakin bagner from them. I really hope that many song on the album drive like this... Gunship is an awsome synthwave group.
You say there's something 'unique' about Alex's voice. For me it's partly his cadence and his singing accent being typical common London (dropping T's mid-word and G's at end), but mostly it's that his voice sounds like he's in such emotional pain, but in a beautiful, poetic way if that makes sense. Like Chris Cornell, HEALTH and TR/ST.
I love Gunship, and it stays on repeat all day at work! I listened to your comments on the song, so I might be late to the party, but if you'd like to hear something similar, a little harder, try Carpenter Brut. It' usually just music, and here is the video that started it all for me: Turbo Killer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-er416Ad3R1g.html They later made a movie out of it, "Blood Machines" that is on Prime and Shudder: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLHhr8Xc4AM.html But when Carpenter Brut collabs with a singer, and/or someone adds a video, you get these masterpieces: Anarchy Road/Judge Dredd no vocals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2bA2Gnac9OY.html Turbo Killer/Mad Max, no vocals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZxYBGoGX6Dc.html Imaginary Fire feat Greg Puciato: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6_t_ZXavIOo.html FAB TOOL feat David Eugene Edwards: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0_aUIls1fwQ.html Roller Mobster/John Wick Chapter 2, no vocals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3YK3syRiiwI.html Apologies for the video spamming if you're already familiar with CB, but I think introducing music to everyone is awesome! That's how I found GUNSHIP!
