The inside of a pair of shotgun locks is often pretty plain. Watch as Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, upgrades the working parts of an LC Smith shotgun lock. The lock is polished, jeweled, plated and nitre blued to take on the appearance of a "best gun" lock.

I inherited a 1936 L C SMITH 12 gauge single shot trap gun specialty grade in Damascus steel with auto eject, custom factory cheek plate with rolled sights with almost all the bling in tacked. I inherited it as a gift. Is bit worth much? Thank you. Neal

Can the jeweling/turning tool be purchased from Midway and if not what are the specifications so that we can make our own? Beautiful work. Thank you

Is this the same LC Smith that made typewriters?

Late reply- but yes, Lyman Cornelius Smith started Smith Corona also. He sold the gun company in 1913 and went into typewriters

I have a 1919 10 gauge LC Smith hammerless with the damascus barrel. It looks more like the top of the three guns in this video. The only difference is mine is hammerless. I am looking for internal parts for it. Please help, is there a site i can order parts from for it? Thank you and another great video.

What’s the purpose of jewel and playing the inside of a gun
@endutubecensorship
@endutubecensorship 3 года назад
Just to make it pretty and more exclusive. Back in the day you would one-up your buddies by having a shotgun that has more time/money/skill on parts that you usually dont see, like the internals of a modern swiss made wrist watch. As a Chevy guy, I'd say it would be like having a 1972 single cab short box with a nice patina but when you pop the hood there's a custom frame/tubular independent suspension and a twin turbo LS7

wow thats looks great i just wondering where did you buy that spray can to color the pins and bolt?
@donovancorcoran1392
@donovancorcoran1392 6 лет назад
No part was colored by any sort of spray here. A few small parts were nitrate blued and the hammer and sear were gold plated. The spray you see being applied prior to those processes is merely some sort of cleaner/degreaser- it is important for a metal surface to be completely clean before either of these finishes is applied, or the finish won't take. Commonly used degreasers include acetone, alcohol and brake cleaner. In this case, I'm guessing he used some product specifically marketed as a degreaser

MidwayUSA ---- Wish you still had the mainspring wrench for sale....need one for my 1929 Field Grade Featherweight in 16 ga. Or could you post a video of a blueprint of one so I can fabricate one ?

I'm sorry but I don't get it.. why pretty up the inside where no one can see it???
@woodensuzie
@woodensuzie 10 лет назад
a jeweled surface retains a surface lube ... plating and/bluing helps protect against corrosion .... especially important in areas that are not seen,

@MrAzrancher
@MrAzrancher 10 лет назад
Because like a fine car and a mechanics inspection, if/when you want to sell it to a high grade collector they will likely have a professional gunsmith open it up for evaluation and WOW....your value just went up. Plus it helps maintain better lubrication on the internal parts. Its just professional vs over the counter,

has it any sens in doing that?
@308dad8
@308dad8 Год назад
But why? You did all that jeweling and gold plating and stuff but nobody is going to see it. I just don’t get the point of putting so much decorative only work in a hidden place. I could see why you would jewel the outside of the lock plate. Why you jewel a bolt body. Polishing I thought would be for function but it’s just that you know you had a lot of work done to decorate the inside of your lock
